Occasional Pre-Show
Obviously, steroids are absolutely detrimental and awful for one's health. In many cases they may cause the enlargement of the muscles around one's heart, leaving them more prone to heart spasms and ultimately heart attacks. They lead to muscle weakness if not frequently worked, the *brace yourself* testicles may shrink, and be prone to cancer. As well as prostate cancer, breast growth in men, facial hair for women, kidney failure, just to name a few.
But in the world of professional wrestling, it's understood that anabolic steroids are an illegal substance. Obviously, with the younger demographic watching the show, it would not be good to have people in the spotlight that children look up to, to die, and them finding out it's because of steroids. Eventually, they'd learn up on it and they'd know not to do it.. But with that, there would be many saying "Oh, that only happens SOMETIMES!" So more people would begin 'juicing.'
I know it's wrong, and unhealthy, I'm personally against it.. But I was just curious, what do you guys think?
From a sporting standpoint, I don't see a huge problem with them, other than the obvious health reasons I just listed. In a "sport" where you're used for how you look, should steroids be legal, but left as the responsibility of the user? People in professional wrestling, over the years people have been expected to have ungodly huge arms, six-packs, and just look like they were carved out of stone. I've even heard people say "Who is this scrawny little bastard?" In reference to Cody Rhodes when I watched RAW with a few friends.
Wrestling is not a sport, you do not truly have to compete physically, so what's the big problem with a wrestler using steroids to get the body they were unable to attain without? I guarantee wrestlers such as Batista and others have taken steroids at points in their careers.. Simply for the retention in their necks, unnaturally large physiques (Watch Batista's DVD and how quickly he goes from a tall skinny twig-like teen to a 400+ pound mastodon).
People live under the assumption that anabolic steroids are a "Take and get jacked" kind of thing. What they fail to realize is, that's not what they're often used for. Steroids do get you bigger, BECAUSE, they speed up muscle recovery time. You'll have to work out more than you normally would to get bigger with steroids, but you'd be able to work out longer or more strenuously, more often, because you recover faster. With that, they're also used as painkillers, which in the world of professional wrestling, would be simple to get a hold of.
Just curious on what everyone's thoughts are... Give it a go.
