Staples Center = Summerslam's Home?

Ever since 2009, the Staples Center in Los Angeles California has been home to the Summerslam PPV events. I notice this each year and wonder about it. Is this really a good decision? Summerslam is the 2nd biggest show of the year and I'm sure there are a ton of other locations who would like to host it. I understand that WWE may want to make that into THE home for Summerslam events, but it's not like they would have a Wrestlemania event (or any other PPV that I've noticed, for that matter) be in the same location year after year.

So what do you think of the Staples Center hosting so many Summerslam events, do you agree or disagree with this? Why or why not?

Should the Staples Center become the permanent home of Summerslam PPV events? Why or why not? Any other thoughts on this?

MOD NOTE:
This has NOTHING to do with the Summerslam 2012 card. It is about the Staples Center hosting several Summerslam events. Off topic posts will be deleted and spam will be infracted. Please stay on topic!

You know I saw this as well and the last Summer Slam out side of CA was in my home state of Indiana I think it's kinda stupid to have there second biggest PPV at one place each year, WWE should have Summer Slam in like AZ, Al, Mi, Hell even again in London.

When I first read that Summer Slam has been in CA since 2009 I thought to my self WHY ? Why would you have Summer Slam only in CA a lot of wrestling fans in other states and countries would love to have Summer Slam in there back yard not just California.

I understand they book it a year in advance but come on if next year they have it at the Staples Center I will not order it until they go to a different location I understand back to back years but not for 5 years running that's kinda rude to other people who want to take part in Big PPV like Summer Slam.

1) I disagree with the Staples Center hosting so many consecutive SummerSlam events. I understand the whole, "Oh it's summer and summer is nice and California is nice thing" but I just don't think it is good marketing. Summerslam is WWE's second biggest event as almost everyone knows. Restricting such a huge event to one city simply does not make sense. Though perhaps I'm romanticizing, this is the type of event where 8 year old Michael goes and says, "Wow, this is amazing" and either becomes a fan or even begins to take up wrestling as well. That type of thing hardly happens at your typical Smackdown!

2) Going along with #1, no, the Staples Center should not become the permanent home of SummerSlam. Keep doing it, and SummerSlam will no longer be special to the Los Angeles market, they'll get it every year! SummerSlam should be rotated aruond just like every other PPV. Am I saying Summerslam should be in Louisville KY (no offense), no. But there's Philly, Houston, NYC, Dallas, Miami, Boston, Chicago, etc. who are big markets that would LOVE to have SummerSlam.

It is not a huge deal that SummerSlam has been in LA in recent years, I will still buy the PPV every year regardless of city. It is just the matter that it could be done better by rotating it throughout markets.

To me it's a great idea. I think you have to see it from a long term view instead of a short one. Summerslam is WWE's "Biggest Party of the Summer" and LA sure knows how to party (Only MIA beats out LA). I've noticed it as well but I have no problem with Summerslam being in LA every year. It should be cheaper knowing that you can look online for the date of next years Summerslam and start to book flights, hotels, and rental cars 8-10 months out. Think of going to LA to see SummerSlam as a right of passage for a true wrestling fan. I think that Survivor Series should be in NYC and the Royal Rumble in Miami.

HELL NO! Have you noticed every time show is held there it has an infernal Hollywood theme? It was awesome when they did it for WM21. It was pretty cool for Summerslam '08, but it's been done so much that you kinda wonder why the hell it's called SUMMERSlam in the first place. I don't want SummerSlam in the Staples Center again. Why can't it be any other show? Survivor Series, TLC, Royal Rumble, anything else. What fun is it and how beneficial can it be to have your second biggest show of the year in the same place every year? It must alienate potential attendees that don't want to travel half across the country for it.

I have to believe that Summerslam is going to be in L.A. for a while. I think it makes a LOT of sense.

1. First and most simply, L.A. is the 2nd-biggest city in the country. Why wouldn't they get something special? The biggest markets get the best stuff.

2. Summerslam is a destination event. Like Wrestlemania (and unlike other PPV's,) Summerslam is accompanied by weeklong events and a media blitz. Keeping it in the same city makes it easier to build a large-scale event - not to mention makes it easier to involve celebrities.

3. So this means Summerslam will never come to your town - so what? Chances are Wrestlemania is never coming to your town either. You know what people do? Travel to Wrestlemania. Know what Los Angeles is full of? Tourists who travelled there. Holding it in L.A. every year makes Summerslam the kind of thing you can build a vacation around.

I don't think it alienates fans at all. How many cities are big enough to host Summerslam anyway? 10? 20? Summerslam in LA has the makings of a quality tradition.

I honestly don't mind it being at Staples Centre, it's a well known arena around the world.. However, maybe not like 5 consecutive shows, maybe they should take SummerSlam to MSG next year? Another big arena that's good enough to hold the event.. Or how about Survivor Series at MSG every year? Who knows, it's all down to the WWE, I don't have a real problem with it, especially because I am from the UK..

I don't really mind the Staples Center being the host of Summer Slam every year. It's in L.A. and has that warm Summer feel to it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it is inside, thus we can't see the Summer weather. I know you can't know for sure if it is going to be sunny out in any place when the event is booked a year in advance.

I would rather see the Summer Slam event in an outside venue. It could still be in the L.A. area. I would suggest The Rose Bowl Stadium. It's got a great look and feel for a Summer event.

So, basically, I don't mind the Staples center, but I would rather see Summer Slam in an outside venue because I think the weather subject should be utilized. It is called "SUMMER" Slam, after all. And with making this the 2nd biggest event of the year I think a large out door stadium could be filled for the Summer's biggest show in WWE.

I've been following the pattern for a few years now myself. I as well find it a bit odd the Staples Center has played host for Summerslam for the 5th consecutive year in a row now. Seems somewhat unfair to other cities that want to host the event and to be perfectly honest,I'm getting tired of the LA scene when it comes to Summerslam. Nothing against LA but WWE needs to go somewhere else for a change.

Its like, what if Wrestlemania was in Madison Square Garden year after year.Hell I'm sure the people in New York wouldn't mind but for us viewers it can get a be tiresome seeing the same crowd at the same event year after year. I think it's about time WWE stops giving LA the special treatment and give the event for another city to host.

Being from L.A I say leave it. Where else are you gonna put arguably WWE's 2nd biggest PPV behind Wrestlemania? Hickville, Alabama? Come on now.

It just doesn't make sense to me. They don't do it for any other event. Why not take the event to some other hot summer spots. I do like the idea of it being an outdoor event that another poster mentioned. I wouldn't mind if they did it a couple of years in LA a couple of years in Miami, a couple of years somewhere else, but I don't like the idea of La being Summerslam's permanent home. Some people can't afford to travel far, and everyone should be given a chance to at least realistically see their favorite events.

well I live in LA and its cool and all cause staples center is so close to me, but I kinda dont like it, cause I feel wither summerslam here all the time it just means LA wont get other PPVs id wanna see live like royal rumble and wrestlemania, and I know we had 21 but I wasnt able to get tix when it came here, so im just hoping it comes back here one day.

I don't get it. I don't mind Summerslam being in L.A. (although I would alternate it was places in Florida such as Miami etc.) but does it always have to be at the Staples Center? Why not Anaheim or another arena? Hell why not somewhere outdoors? Give it a big time feel?

I think it's a great concept, having the summer themed PPV at a hot and summery place. Makes sense, right? But the same place for four years in a row? A little too long, if you ask me. If WWE is aiming for having Summerslam to be at a hot, summery location, there are plenty of other places than just LA. Houston? Phoenix? Pretty much anywhere in Florida? Hey, there's other places in California too!

Nonetheless, if they think Staples Center works every year, then that's what they will do.

I would not mind if they chose the Staples Center to have SummerSlam every other 5 years or something like that. I would like to see the WWE to move SummerSlam to a different venue or a different state/country. It shouldn't be in like a small town from Virgina. I like to see it in Atlanta, Toronto, London, Dallas, or something like that. I actually like to see something happen in Las Vegas though, that would be a nice city to have SummerSlam.

Maybe they got a hell of a deal on the rent by signing a multi-year contract? Second largest US market, LA doesn't have shit going on in August except maybe the Dodgers and Angels but it's regular season baseball not playoff baseball. Warm weather, close to a lot of media outlets to hype the event.

Not a bad idea really. I get it. I would like it if they moved it around to different events. I'd like to see Summerslam pushed as a huge event and try to draw 50,000 people. Someone else said an outdoor show would be cool and I agree.

Personally I think Vegas would be a great place to have Money in the Bank. Makes sense imo. As for Summerslam, like I've mentioned before, I'm all for having it at a sunny location but why not alternate it along the West Coast and Florida? Hell, I would like to see it in Hawaii although that may be a bit out of the way :p The Stan Sheriff Center would be ideal imo
