Some Ideas for the Tag Division

What's the craic?
Crimson and Matt Morgan were put together on Thursday night because of the lack of Tag Teams in TNA at present and it got me wondering about a couple of other options to give them some competition. I'd pair up Kendrick with Shannon Moore - these guys are old friends and could have great matches with the returning MCMG. Another team I would like is the pairing of the two Robbies who seam to have pretty good chemistry and it'd be nice to see a good old fashioned power guy / technical guy combo again. Immortal can put forward Gunnar and Scotty, in fact this would be a good starting feud for the new champs given the history that Steiner has with both guys. Now add in MCMG, British Invasion and even the Pope & Devon and you have seven teams vying for the belts.

What do you think of these combos? Are there any any other guys you'd like paired up? Most importantly, do you think they have the roster to revitalize a division they were receiving great praise for only a short time ago?

If I were in TNA's position, I'd pass a ruling that everyone on the roster is eligable for their respective tag team divisions and as such, is required to have an official partner on record.

That way, the entire roster is a part of the tag team division and absolutely anyone can be called upon to have a match any given episode.

It'd even add a new dimension to feuds, as what happens when one half turns heel and the other remains face? Do they bring new partners in to replace them or make trades? All sorts.

I know it doesn't go with wrestling's usual off-the-cuff booking, but it'd be an interesting new way to do business, dontcha think?

I'm a WWE fan that clicked on this thread out of curiosity, and I gotta point out how ridiculous it is that the WWE is having the same problem. I think that between both promotions there's maybe four tag teams. What the fuck happened? Do tag teams just not exist anymore?

Really sorry to interrupt your discussion. If it helps the WWE is just throwing guys together at random right now. At least you have factions you can pull teams out of.

I considered posting this in the 'General' section but the poor state of the WWe Tag Division has been discussed at great length in recent months, so I concentrated on TNA's which was receiving great critical acclaim until very recently.

There are some great Tag Teams about in the States, mainly in RoH. Why the Briscoes, WGTT, KoW, Age of the Fall and/or the American Wolves were never signed by either the WWe or TNA as Tag specialists is a mystery:disappointed: (whilst TNA did try the Young Bucks / Generation Me and WWe gave them a try out, their diminutive statures were always going to stand against them - something that affected many ECW guys back in the day).

If the TNA tag division is going to go the route of WWE and just start throwing every singles competitor who isn't in premiere singles feud into meaningless tag teams, they should just as soon throw the titles on a couple who never defends them, because it'd be just as meaningless to force real teams to go head-to-head consistently with mix-and-match competitors.

Either bolster the ranks with legitimate teams, or put guys together to create them — either way, I don't want random singles guys teaming for the sake of teaming. Beer Money exists because Roode and Storm were put together, but they made it work and they did all the things tag teams should do — they went and got matching tights, got a team name and developed team offense.

I agree, the three suggestions I have made are not short term affairs, they are three teams that would exist for the purpose of utilizing guys that I just don't think will succeed in singles competition in the mid-term.

Both Morgan and Crimson have received criticism for not having that 'spark' with the audience; something that the Robbies, Gunnar, Kendrick and Moore have also struggled with. Scotty is just too broken down to be a singles guy but Gunnar could really benefit from some Steiner attitude. If the last twenty years of wrestling history illustrates anything, Tag Teams can be fantastic platforms to build guys for solo careers.

I'd love TNA to bring in someone like the WGTT or the Briscoes but as they don't appear to be interested in doing so, then finding common ground among underutilized guys with common bonds (respect between the Blueprint & Crimson, Kendrick & Moore's friendship, Immortal running mates and the Robbies current business relationship) is surely the only way to proceed? I've seen claims that Tag Teams don't draw but my baptism in the American wrestling scene was awash with Teams still talked about today (Steiners, LOD, Demolition, RnR & Midnight Express, Freebirds, Demolition, Harlem Heat, Horsemen, Rhodes & Windham etc), so I have always had a love for this aspect of the business and, with the WWe still not embracing the format, it was something that TNA was doing better right up to the recent breakups and injuries to their three biggest teams. Personally, I want a return to this.

I don't not want a return to it, but I understand why they set it aside for a few months. The process of doing so gave berth to James Storm and Robert Roode the main event players. It also raised the profiles of Crimson, Matt Morgan and to a lesser degree Austin Aries.

The division will return to a bit of prominence IMO heading into the new year (when Sabin is scheduled to return), but I can understand their not really wanting to do all that much with it right now.

I also don't think they banked on losing Neal/Ink Inc. this quickly, either, which kind of threw a monkey wrench into what were probably long-term plans to rebuild there as well (so to speak).

For the record, though, I'd love to bring in the Briscoes and the American Wolves. A division with MCMG, Briscoe Brothers, American Wolves, Crimson & Morgan (for the time being) and eventually Beer Money, Inc. (in the future)? Yeah, sign me up.

Yeah TNA's tag division is in rough shape right. Matt Morgan & Crimson a make shift team is the current tag champions. Then you have Mexican America, The British Invasion who don't they do anything with anymore and Ink Inc that is if Jesse Neal is still there. Add to the fact that Beer Money broke up and The MCMGs are on the sidelines into Sabin returns from his injury it's not looking good. They need some new teams fast.

They could make Mr. Anderson and Abyss a team for now and maybe Bully Ray and Gunner. I also suggest they look into bringing in Dark City Fight Club.

I'm hoping the 2 Robbies transition into a tag team at some stage, as I think they've got a good thing going right now. I thought Pope & Devon were going to be a tag team but it's just sort of an association at the moment but that could easily be turned into a tag team. One team I'd love to see, but I'm not sure how TNA get there, is Rob Van Dam and AJ Styles. I know AJ's been in the Title hunt the last few weeks (and it's not been that interesting, I'd rather see this team TBH) but neither he or Van Dam have had much going on and this team would be an awesome team - one of the most exciting of all time. I also wouldn't mind seeing a pairing of Kazarian and Daniels as I think they'd work better as a tag team than they do as singles stars (the backstory is there with Kaz/Daniels as well).

TNA's Tag Division consists of Morgan & Crimson, British Invasion, Mexican America and MCMG, with Devon/Pope and the 2 Robbies on the fringes, create two teams in RVD/AJ and Kaz/Daniels and that's a pretty exciting division.

If TNA were to bring in a Tag Team I think Natural Selection (from NWA Hollywood) would be a good choice, they're not the best in ring (from what I remember) but they're very impressive looking and one of them (Shaun Ricker) is pretty good on the mic. They could be a real power team that could challenge Crimson & Morgan.
