Slyfox's Theory That John Cena is a Bigger Draw than Steve Austin

I'm curious as to how a guy that is so adamant that pre-1997 wrestlers should have more respect than today's 'talent' like HHH, etc, can adore Cena so much. Cena embodies every movement away from pre-1997 and the attitude era, including the low prioritising of wrestling skill.

What's so good about Cena?
Matches, promo ability, drawing power, overall entertainment value.

Austin is synonymous with the Attitude Era, when things were going great for the WWE/F, and synonymous with giant reactions.
Yup...9 years ago.

Cena is synonymous with hatefilled boos, lengthy title reigns and negative posts on wrestling forums.
Oh no, negative posts on a wrestling forum. :lmao:

I also find it humorous you used "lengthy title reigns" to criticize him. Because, apparently a title reign with great matches which build up the prestige of a belt is a bad thing.

Oh, and also, smarks love Austin. Smarks hate Cena. Kids forget who Austin is. Kids love Cena.
Smarks don't love Austin. Smarks who were KIDS when Austin was on top love Austin. Take for example, you and Wes. You are a fan of Austin for the same reason today's kids are a fan of Cena.

Older fans respect Austin and his work, but also appreciate the fact that there were great wrestlers before Austin, and will be great workers after him as well.

Clearly, when you appease to smarks, it brings ratings.
That must be why ROH is pulling in those massive 7.8 ratings, right?

Neglect them, and you're left with a child-oriented audience that brings you 3.4's every week.
You're not even old enough to drive, smoke, or buy porn. Who are you to be dismissive of a "child-oriented audience"?

Yay, go Cena. You outsold a long-retired wrestler in movie sales. Cena = Wrestling and Drawing God.
Cena > Austin in terms of drawing ability in 2008.

FACT

In Austin's heyday, guys like Cena would never make it. The WWE sold out to resort to doing everything they could to make children like their product.
Sold out to make children like their product. What an unbelievably ignorant statement.

Wrestling has ALWAYS catered towards children. In the late 90s, WCW sold out to the older wrestling fan. Thus, to compete, WWF sold out to the older wrestling fan. When those wrestling fans got older, they did what most wrestling fans do...quit caring. That is why the WWE's ratings went from mid 6s to mid 3s in the span of approximately 2 years. The WWE DID cater to the older wrestling fan, and ratings tanked after only a few years.

Yet, they still get shit from the media in every facet and every direction for being unsuitable, bad influences, etc. Backfire and a half.
No more so than wrestling always has.

Enough about Cena though...The Children's Champion.
You do realize you are just a child yourself, correct?
I'm curious as to how a guy that is so adamant that pre-1997 wrestlers should have more respect than today's 'talent' like HHH, etc, can adore Cena so much.
When did I ever say anything like that?

All I said was that so many voters don't seem to understand that there were good workers from before 1997 as well. As far as HHH goes, he beat Hogan because, apparently, being an inferior worker is an advantage.

Cena embodies every movement away from pre-1997
:lmao:

How do you figure Cena embodies the movement away from the 80s period of wrestling?

and the attitude era,
Thank god.

including the low prioritising of wrestling skill.
He's the best wrestler on the current roster...so yeah.

well slyfox u do have a point...obviously 2008 cena is a bigger draw but austin is not even there so u cant make a statement like that...its like saying Tom Brady is a bigger draw than Steve Young.....um yeah because he is the current athlete comparing with the past athlete....the WWE are in a funk tho but its not John Cena's fault....its the predictability of the bookers and the writers....even without internet I seem to know exactly whats gonna happen on each PPV...ppl love the attitude era because as JR used to put it "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE WWF" ....Mick Foley won his first WWF title on Monday Night Raw! The last time the world title changed hands on Raw? 2006! that was only because RVD got busted for doing drugs or else it probably would not have happened..the point is yes u are right Cena is a bigger draw but that doesnt matter when the bookers book for only 5 wrestlers....and that is not even an exaggeration either. Some of the Champs within last year: Orton, Edge, Taker, Batista, Cena. Im okay with the heel getting booked with a long title reign but nit the face...thats not traditional wrestling. ppl dont have anything to cheer for when there is no obstacle...its like writing a story with no drama and no plot.
