Since people want him in this position, let's start the campaign!

I don't see why. The guy is obviously a great poster and deserves the recognition he gets.

Recognition is fine, but allow me to say something and make it clear, once and for all:

WE KNOW WHO WOULD MAKE A GOOD MOD. WE SEE EVERYONE HERE AND WE DON'T NEED TO BE TOLD WHO TO MOD, SO DROP IT.

Well I thought I should apologize since I was the one who made this thread. And I don't consider you guys idiots. As a matter of fact I think some of you are some of the smartest people on these forums.

It wasn't against anyone in particular. I'm just REALLY tired of people thinking we're blind idiots.

We don't. It's just a bit of fun. We know we probably wont get very far with it but it's still fun. The only thing wrong with the system is that the only way to go is up. People on the forums get a lot of respect and come to prominence if they are great posters. The only things higher than a user is a mod. People will always do it because they see it as getting people the credit they deserve (or not). I'm not advocating it but I can see where they are coming from.

The problem with that is simple: you don't ahve to be a mod to be known. People put too much emphasis on titles etc. Jake, Justin, X, Wes, Monkey, Polley and I could go on. None of them are mods. Officially they're the exact same as a person that joined today. No one would believe that though, because they're well known and considered in the highest level of posters here.

Agreed but people will always want to see there favourite posters in positions of power. By making campaign threads and accomplishing what they set out to do makes the poster feel like thier opinion and vote counts. I'm not sure but weren't some of the guys you posted mods too? All I am saying is that poeple will always try and get people the credit they deserve and that will always be a mod spot.

All of them were at one points, yes.

the thing is though, we know who would make good mods and who wouldn't. Praising someone is fine but saying they should be a mod is just impractical. There's one mod spot open right now and we've pretty much made a selection as for who is going to fill that. This would be fine if there was a debate going as to who it should be. I didn't go off because of one incident. I got upset because this, along with other instances of people thinking the staff is incompetent has been going on for months and I am flat out tired of it.

I completely agree with you. Especially if the guy you have picked to fill the role is not one of the guys that have been linked ot the role in campaign threads. This could be Latriat or jmt. The thing is, now that people have voiced thier opinion on who should fill the role, when it is actually announced, people might see it as a lapse of judgement on the part of the admins. Perhaps there should be some rule against or something I dunno.

im not sure if it says it in the rules anymore, but it used to state the fastest way to not be considered for a spot is to ask about it....

As Spiderman's grandma would say though KB:

"With great power, comes great responsibiliy", By that I mean, when you are put in charge of things such as this, you put yourself out there for criticism. I mean, like I said in all the other threads on this subject, you guys do a lot of good work and it takes a lot of time and effort on your part to do it well. Though people will always think that they could do a better job, they probably couldn't.

There's a common misconception around here that all that it takes to be a mod is being a good poster. While that's a big part of it, it's nowhere near all it takes. Yes, Lariat and JMT are good posters. Would they make good mods? Likely so and they'll likely be up for debate, but I could probably give you a list of 15 names that would also be in contention for the next spot. There's a few big names taht would be given the spot first and it's nothing at all against Lariat, jmt or anyoen else.

First of all, it was Uncle Ben that said that.

You are wise beyond your join date. That last part is the key to everything. Far too many people see being a mod as the be all and end all of this place. Trust me, it is far from the glamour job that it's made out to be. We deal with more idiots than you can possibly fathom and have to take the criticism that everyone has for us. It's a thankless job for the most part and it's not as easy and far from as fun as it is made up to be.
