Should the signing of RVD been kept secret???

It was reported here on WZ that TNA officials were fumming over Spike leaking the official signing... As Hogan was just teasing...

My question is do you think that they should have kept it a secret until Monday?

Personally, I think they should have played a promo this Thursday and had him in the commercials and every thing...

So, should he have been advertised or kept secret for shock value?

My question is that is it a work? Is this the way that they wanted it so that people would want to watch TNA on Monday over RAW? Because I have missed RVD since he has left and I can't wait to see what he can still do in the ring.

Do I think it's a work? It is a strong possibility.. Has stuff gotten leaked out before WWE or TNA has wanted it.. Sure. But I would not rule out the fact that Hogan may have wanted it to leak out to boost some ratings.

I think that they are really hyping this up as much as they possibly can, because what better of a way for TNA to gain ratings up, than with everybody's favorite superstar. If this is the case that this is just a work, I will be very displeased with TNA. He is going to put on some amazing matches, and moments in the new TNA if this is really the case of him coming back. He has mentioned before that he would much rather work for TNA than WWE. So if he did come back to wrestle, it wouldn't be for any other company but TNA.

it doesnt matter whether it was a work or not. tna should advertise it anyway. im pretty sure that a lot of people would watch tna if they said that rvd was gonna be on the show. look at jeff hardy, nobody got to see his return to tna because nobody knew it was gonna happen.

I think that they should have announced the signing of RVD. They should have been playing promos and vignettes of his debut in the company. I believe as a fan of RVD I would want to know if he is signed to the company and debuting Monay night because want to watch him on TV. So for me the leaking of the announcement is a good thing.

Hulk Hogan was teasing it and it should have been left at that, that makes people think 'has RVD signed??' meaning they might check out the show to see if RVD had actually signed, curiousity makes people want to know.

I have to say No. They signing of RVD should have been promoted. This is a good way to steal some viewers from RAW. We haven't seen RVD in a while, and IMO a lot of people would be more likely to change the channel to see him show up.

Hogan/Abyss vs Flair/AJ is NOT enough to get me to watch impact. If you announce and hype up RVD people will watch and then you can throw in some unadvertised shockers.

If they didn't want it to be a secret, they would've announced it the right way and had him in the commercials and they could have at least played some sort of video package for him on Impact...

I really think they would have gained more from promoting the live show as the return of Mr Monday Night... The mainstream WWE fans that don't visit theses wrestling news sites still may have no idea that he will be there and I think that is a horrible mistake, like the other guy said, lots of people missed Jeff Hardy's appearance because they didn't know he was going to be there...

I think its risky to just hope people tune in to catch the debut of a superstar like RVD... The only way I think it would work the way it is, is if they debut him early in the show and maybe even have him wrestle or do something major later on in the show...

I just think one of TNA's biggest problems is advertising and I think they dropped the ball on this one...

I feel they should have let everyone know anyways, I still plan on watching raw and flipping it tna during commercials and some uninteresting parts of the show. So, I'm glad I know now because I will pay more attention to TNA because I'd like to see what role RVD plays on impact.

See, as long as I have been a wrestling fan, this is one of the problems with today's product. There are no more surprises. Let the first show, with a newly signed wrestler, be a huge surprise. Then the ratings will follow. I know, you are thinking, "if you dont like leaked info, why are you on this site?" I get on WZ to read results of shows that I didnt get a chance to see. Not for the rumors or "leaked info." Back before the leaked info era, the wrestling business didnt have a problem drawing ratings. This is why I also miss the WWE/WCW wars. You have no surprises when wrestlers jump ship and go to the other promotion.

Both TNA and WWE have a huge problem in that they like to announce the "new signing" or they have the problems the "In two weeks, "they" are coming." NO!! Bullshit!! Let that stuff be a surprise. It makes that event that much more memorable. Stop leaking your signings, please!!

Surprises are nice and all, but TNA wants to eventually beat out WWE. Before that can happen, they need higher ratings and a stronger fan base, so why not announce it before the next Impact? Get the fanbase excited now and lock them in for the show on Monday. Making the fans wait for a surprise does work, but with the tiny in comparison fanbase TNA has, it should all just come out in the open.

As for RVD, I'm happy if he comes back. I don't really watch TNA, but I do keep up with it from time to time, so I'll see what he does. He's been out since late 07, so ring rust is going to show for a bit, but he's truly and exciting guy to watch in the ring and I'm just glad he's back in the biz.

If they are trying to recapture the "anything can happen feel of wcw circa 97-98" than yes it should have been kept a secret.
But if they wanted instant ratings than they should have held a press conference and made a much bigger deal of it then they did. I have heard people question RVD because hes been gone for 3 years and hes getting older. However, RVD has pretty much been injury free his entire career with the exception of the broken leg back in ECW. This guy with his agility and conditioning could probably go at the top level for at least another 5 years.

Tna needs to learn as much a they can from WCWs mistakes as they can. RVDs signing should have been announced as early and as often as possible. RVD has the opportunity to surpass Angle as the "biggest Acquisition in TNA history."

I think that Spike did the right thing. Let us not forget that Spike are taking a huge risk by moving TNA to Monday nights and they could easily get fucking crushed in the ratings, which is probably the most likely outcome of this whole thing. I think that they have made the right decision to reveal RVD and I think that a lot of people will tune in to see how he does. Spike want to get this thing going on the best foot possible and there is not a single redeeming quality about keeping RVD secret until Monday. Sure, it would be a nice little shock but no one would be fucking watching to see him. TNA officials can bitch and moan all they want about this but at the end of the day, Spike have a business to run and they want to make sure that people are tuning in. So, no. I don't think that TNA should have kept the reveal to Monday. They need to get people watching like they did on January 4th and the reveal of RVD could probably do that for them.

I think this whole thing is a work from TNA. I wouldn't be surprised if the RVD signing got out on purpose with the intention to get people to watch, only to have another surprise from TNA waiting for the viewers that is still a mystery.

It only makes sense to bring in Mr. Monday Night for the big Monday night move. I know I plan on tuning in to see what RVD will be up to. Raw was just pathetic this past Monday and I was thinking of giving TNA a chance anyway. RVD seals the deal for me.

Frankly I don't really care if they kept RVD's signing with TNA a secret because this pretty much shuts up all the rumors that have been burning like wildfire in many IWCs. I've been reading rumor reports about RVD signing with TNA for months now so I'm not surprised at the very least of it becoming a reality. I'm just curious on how TNA will use him. I see two possible scenarios: 1. put him in the main event picture, and have him win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from AJ Styles, or 2. make him a "savior" of the X-Division heading towards the Destination X PPV. Whatever the outcome is, I'm just glad that RVD is wrestling ina major organization once again.

RVD is definitely a name that a lot of people like to see on a card and he will give the audience a thrill. In fact, I could see a high number of people switching over, like you are planning to Lee. However, I think you will soon come to realise that he will be wasted in TNA. I hope for his sake that he is making a good career choice and that he knows where he will be in the pecking order at TNA. The fact that they have revealed him is a boost for the audience and it will likely reap some rewards. However, switching over to see RVD alone is a stupid reason. He has always been an exciting person to watch but his mic skills are limited and he could never hold my attention outside of a ring.

As I say, people will tune in to see him but I have a feeling that RVD wont get all he wants from TNA.

I gotta say no. TNA needs all the publicity that they can get at this point. RVD can still be a relevant player today. I for one will watch TNA more just to see RVD frog splash the shit outta everyone.
The only gripe I have about RVD is he got a bit formulated in his matches. Rolling Thunder, Split Leg Moonsault...etc.. I just hope it isn't that repetitive bullcrap. Other than that I'm excited as all hell!! WOOOOHOOOOOOO! Mr. TNA bitches!!!!

Thats what i think that TNA should had done, but i guess that the news went by fast so Spike somehow thought that it will be good for them to tweet and tell the whole world that RVD had signed with TNA.

I think it was a good thing to leak out. It would of been better if hinted at so as to keep u guessing. I see it going down that Hogan/Abss. are getting beatdown by Flair, Styles, and Wolfe and RVD comes down and makes the save. This can instantly set up a fued between RVD and Styles.

Nope, it shouldn't have been kept a surprise. The shit should have been hyped out of it is what should have happened in my view. When Jeff Hardy showed up at TNA iMPACT! on January 4th, it was a great surprise but it wasn't exactly a huge draw. The reason why is because nobody knew it was gonna happen. Had TNA advertised Hardy appearing on the show, droves of people watching Raw could have potentially flipped over from Raw to TNA to see it happen live and in color since they hadn't seen him in months.

RVD hasn't been in the spotlight for about three and a half years. Just suddenly having him pop up on iMPACT! unexpectedly isn't going to draw people that night. Will it have an impact on TNA's ratings now that it's out? Possibly. RVD is one of the original internet darlings and the IWC will be pleased to see him. As for everyone else, who knows? Wrestling fans can be fickle and RVD's been gone a long time.
