Should the Rookies interact with their mentors outside of NXT?

Remix

Is a thin rope
I think they should. I mean if they're supposed to be getting mentored, they should do some extracurricular activities as it were. For the guys who WILL be big, it adds to their exposure with the TV audience (more people watch smackdown and raw than NXT), and form a shareholding perspective serves to advertise the show. And in some cases it makes sence for them to be interacting on the mentor's shows, Jericho spent a great deal of time last year using the Big Show as a meatshield, and now he's got a 6 foot 5 inch tall bare knuckle fighter to guard his back. Conversely, Barrett wants to learn from from the best in the world, and he's going to get more chances to learn from Chris Jericho if he's sitting at ringside for Smackdown too. Similarly, Slater seems eager to learn from Christian, who seems to want to help his rookie, and why not take lessons during other WWE shows.

Obviously, not all of the pairs should interact outside of NXT. Daniels and Miz spending quality time with eachother would make no sence at all. They (kayfabe) despise eachother, and wouldnt want to spend a minute with eachother that they werent contractually obliged to. The same could be said of Punk and Young (though apathy better sums up Punk's feelings more than hate), unless he shaves off his rediculous hair and becomes straight edge.

What're your views on the matter?

Absolutely, 100% they should. They should go with them to the other brands so the mentors can show them off and (kayfabe) teach them how a real match goes. Even Bryan should go with the Miz to RAW sometimes as to get the non-NXT-watching audience to get used to seeing him. They could easily explain it as the rookie being contractually obligated to do what the pro says.

As you said, it gives the wrestlers exposure while advertising the show.

Why not even show some vignettes featuring the pairs hanging out together outside, in the "real world"? That could be explained as the pros teaching the rookies how to be professional, and could give even more insight into the rookies' characters, seeing how they react to different situations.

When I was reading this thread the first two names that came up were not Daniel Bryan and the Miz, but Darrin Young and CM Punk. I would love to see the interactions with Young and the Straight Edge Society since they seem like complete opposites. Young is supposed to be the party guy and CM Punk don't do parties. It would be interesting to see if CM Punk could actually get Young to become straight edge. But the only for us to be able to see that is if they interact outside the ring.

This sounds good on paper. However it will detract from what the show should be. It's supposed to be a show about WRESTLING and coming up in WWE. If you start removing it from it's current configuration you're moving away from wrestling drama and into reality entertainment.

Maybe a skit once in a blue moon. But it's really not necessary unless some kind of red hot feud develops.
