Should certain people have their rights to vote revoked?

Milkyway!

Hodor!
I recently saw a post on Facebook from a person saying they can't wait to get Obama out of office not because he was a bad president, spending money, not producing change, or any other the other arguments against our president; however they were saying Obama shouldn't be president simply because he was an "African savage" or a "******."

Clearly this person is simply an ignorant bigot.

I for one cannot stand racism. If someone is proven racist should they have their rights to vote revoked?

This is merely one of many hypothetical situations in which a person could have their rights to vote revoked. My question to you is simple, should someone be capable of having their rights to vote revoked?

Being an idiot isn't something that disqualifies you in the American electorate - it's the primary quality sought for.

If peoples personal opinions (no matter how disgusting they are) are enough to refuse them the right to vote, then the elections would be won by votes of 2-1.

They did refuse to allow people to vote for a really long time. Black people couldn't vote, then women couldn't vote. Why should we go back 200 years just because they aren't nice people?

I can certainly see anyone's point on why we shouldn't allow our government to take away anyone's right to vote. In fact, it's likely way too hard and has way too much capabilities to be abused in the wrong mannerism; however I'm getting to the point where I believe things such as Westboro Baptist Church, random ass little children attempting to throw around the word "******" out of sheer bigotry, etc should be classified as a hate crime.

Yes, words as a hate crime. I suppose this could infringe on someone's act of free speech. However I live in an area surrounded by remnant of the KKK words far too often lead to action.

Would all of the people who voted for Obama JUST because he was black be considered racist? Not that all of his votes were just because he was black, there were democrats who were going to vote for the democrat candidate regardless, but I am not talking about them, I am talking about the people who voted for Obama just so they could elect the first black President, not because they thought he was qualified. Are they racist?

Just as much. Except they didn't use evil hate-words, so he doesn't care about them. Let those racists vote. Just don't let the racists who are voting against him vote.

I've always felt that the right to vote was a societal right but that if you violate the rights of that society, you should lose certain freedoms. Children are already not allowed to vote because they're not deemed responsible or capable of making a reasoned judgement but for some reason it's just assumed that adults are? Obviously people have to be given a chance but I'm all in favour of that chance being revoked for those convicted of moderately serious crimes.

Felons already lose the right to vote in some states, at least while they are serving their sentences. I don't know if they get their right to vote back after they are released or not though.
