Aerosmith is one of the most overrated bands in the history of music, and they haven't done anything halfway worth a fuck in more then 20 years.

That being said, they are better then the Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols were all about image; their music was lackluster at best, even for UK punk. That being said I'm still a fan of some of their stuff.

If you were a modern day Punk band, then you'd probably owe your career to the Sex Pistols, however if you were a modern day rock band, the likelihood of the Sex Pistols being on your list of influences would have been about as good as seeing Marvin Gaye on the same list

Are you trying to argue that Aerosmith is more influential then the Sex Pistols?

Because that's ridiculious.

Well Aerosmith weren't in the least bit experimental, they stuck to the tried and true hard rock format of their peers in the 70s, and it worked for them.

The Sex Pistols were a revolution; every English kid who saw them or heard them went and started a punk band. The Sex Pistols sent a message to working class people in England, that you had to do this on your own, DIY style. The Sex Pistols are pretty much soley responsible for bringing punk rock to the forefront of the music industry, thus kicking off literally dozens and dozens of subgenres and movements and scenes.

The Sex Pistols are probably the most influential band of all time in a sense, aside from the Beatles or Dylan. Not the best I didn't say, but their influence is the sole reason for the genres of punk, new wave, ska, and alternative rock.
