Santino Marella- Comedy character or is a change needed? Thoughts on his superpunch?

Santino will never be taken seriously because he has been a comedy act for so long. He had an impressive debut as a fake fan in 2007 to win the IC belt from Umaga, he then quickly fell into an underdog role. He wasn't that over during this time. Then he turned heel and began mocking people. I remember during late 2007 he began mocking Stone Cold's movie, The Condemned. That was when he finally started to get really over as a comedy act, he has remained Raw's funniest character since then. However, he had already begun to lose a lot at this point. Then of course we have the Honk-a-Meter. If that had continued, he MIGHT have been taken seriously, but they ended this angle too early. After that he went downhill even harder by breaking the record for shortest time in the Royal Rumble. The worst was yet to come. At Wrestlemania 25 he won the title of "Ms Wrestlemania" by showing up dressed up as a fake sister of his named Santina. He even put that "Ms Wrestlemania" title on the line against Vickike Guerrero.... 
How can anyone ever take a wrestler seriously when he has THAT kind of a history? He will remain a comedy character forever. Will he ever win a world title? Chances are 99.9% that he won't, but he will be one of the more remembered characters of this era because he's so funny.
Santino does NOT need a character change because he has found his true calling as a hilarious comedy act. Even though he would never make a believable champion, Santino should remain in this character forever because he will go on to become one of the most remembered characters of this era, he really stands out right now and he would never be taken seriously in a "serious" role anyhow.

Santino cannot be a legit full time wrestler. His body sustained too many injuries from when he was doing MMA type stuff. Yes, Santino is a legit tough guy who has the ability to put on a great match with his skills...however, his injuries have mounted up to prevent him from utilizing those skills effectively. So, realizing that he is somewhat limited in-ring, he accentuates his sense of humor. And you know what? It keeps him on TV, it keeps him getting a paycheck. I have no problems with Santino Marella not being taken seriously as a wrestler, because I still look forward to seeing him each Monday on Raw. His backstage scenes are some of the funniest I have seen in a long time. He makes me laugh. And because of that, I don't care if he only wrestles once every two months on TV, and usually gets squashed (his defeat of Jack Swagger came as a complete shock, Santino is a comedic jobber). Santino has a niche in the WWE, and it works for him.
