Rush 2049

Bernkastel

Reaper of Miracles
Drive the Future

Easily my favorite game for the N64 console. I spent hours upon hours playing this game. This game has everything… racing, adventure, strategy, fighting all rolled into one. This is not your typical 'race around a track and go as fast as you can' type of racing game. Each of the 6 tracks are so interactive that the game feels and plays more like an adventure/ strategy game than a racing game. There are so many shortcuts, jumps, obstacles, and alternative routes in each level that it seems over whelming the first time you race. Don’t want to stick with the regular path during a race? Would you rather race on top of buildings, through sewer systems and airports? Would you jump from cargo ship to cargo ship in an attempt to get to the finish line first? Would you push your opponent in front of a moving bus or train to gain another position? In this game, speed isn’t the only thing that matters. Craftiness and deviousness from all sides could mean the difference between first or last in a critical race … each race is an all out battle to reach the finish line.

Each track contains 10 silver coins and 10 gold coins some being easy to reach, others being ridiculously hard to reach. Collecting these coins unlocks other cars and goodies in the game. Many of the shortcuts and alternate paths are too difficult or out of the way to reach during race mode, by exploring each track to the fullest brings out the adventure feel of the game.

If you get tired of racing, try one of the stunt tracks out. Best while utilized with two players or more, Stunt mode is still entertaining in 1 player mode.

What solidifies this game as the greatest game for the N64 console? The Battle mode… This is where the shoot em’ up fans will more than likely spend the majority of their time. The object is simple, grab one of the wide varieties of weapons available…. Machine guns, bombs, mines, lasers, heat seeking missiles, sonic disrupters and try to blow your opponent up. And unlike a typical shooter, the battle arena’s come well equipped with a range of alternative paths, jumps, objects, and obstacles. Surprise your opponent with an aerial attack, grab an invisibility shied and sneak up on him from behind, set mines in devious places and trick your opponent into hitting them. This mode owns with 2 or more players.

Rush 2049 for the N64, a truly underrated and underappreciated game.

Also, the game has one of the best soundtracks this side of Extreme G… techno fans will enjoy it.

While I think that San Francisco Rush is still the definitive game of the series, I have to agree that the Stunt and Battle modes on this game are probably the best features of any game for the N64. That is, outside of Goldeneye. I could play the battle mode for hours, and it never gets old. If you get a few friends together, and play Winners, it's impossible to ever get bored.

If you're sick of racing, the Stunt tracks are just amazing. There's 3 different ones I believe, but they're all big enough for you to not get bored of doing the same things over and over again...

San Francisco Rush for the N64, while solid, got kind of bland at times unless you're talking about the original for the arcade. Even so, in my opinion the Alcatraz Edition crushes it.

4 different stunt tracks, and yes, each one of them are huge... big enough that the 16 minutes they give you in practice mode is hardly enough time to explore each area to its fullest.

My friends and I used to do tournaments on the Battle Mode, there's nothing better than getting 6- 8 people together and just unloading on each other with weapons... the game gets really competitive.
