WrestleMania Main Event
Round 1, ECW:
Benoit/Angle
vs.
Mercury/Hansen

No spam and no flaming.

All ECW matches are conducted under Extreme Rules

Yeah, a Canadian on one time? That makes it one sided. Benoit and Angle win this in a land slide.

I guess I have to further myself on this. We saw how people voted against Brock Lesnar and ... whats his name? because of... whats his name.

Then same fucking rules apply here. Mercury was the week man of this tag team, and putting him with someone under Lesnar in strength and speed gives Lariat little chance.

In most cases, Hansen would be able to dominate even with a weak partner, and Mercury is the definition of a week partner. He'd probably spend most of his time hitting on Melina or something.

However, Benoit and Angle are no slouches. They are two of the toughest and most skilled wrestlers of all time. I just can't see them losing here, not to a team that includes Joey Mercury

As much as I'd love, and I mean love to see Benoit vs. Hansen, there's no way he can match up with two of the best technical wrestlers of all time, because in essence he's on his own. Mercury is below average at best. He looked good when he had John Morrison with him and nothing else. Benoit and Angle have experience as a team and were successful. With that, they win, period. Hansen won't tap, but he can be pinned after an Angle Slam or a headbutt. Maybe Mercury taps, but either way, the win is secure.

Hansen drew the short end of the straw with Mercury as his partner and it crossed my mind that if he got a good draw in the first round that he'd stand a chance. But Angle and Benoit are far from a good draw. Angle and Benoit are two of, if not the most technically sound wrestlers the business has seen. Now this is in ECW, but Benoit is an ECW guy and Angle could go hardcore if needed. Hansen will carry himself through the match, as he'll probably kick the piss out of Joey boy and it will turn into a handicap contest and Benoit and Angle prevail the victors.

This.
Fucking.
Sucks.

Well, there's no way to spin this into thinking that Hansen and Mercury can beat this power team of Murderface and Soon-to-be Murderface. Angle and Benoit are decorated and tortured souls. Hansen would be aggravated with Mercury, hit the Lariat on him and walk the fuck to the back as he gave the bullhorn hand gesture to the crowd. If only Hansen and Vader were paired together... :(

Anyway I voted for Hansen and Mercury Sable just because Stan Hansen's a tough sum bitch and on the off chance he hits the Lariat on BOTH Benoit and Angle, he could win it alone, with them having two really bad necks.

:(

Joey Mercury is perhaps the most underrated wrestler this decade. The guy is simply incredible. If it weren't for his issues, there's no telling just how far he could have made it in WWE.

Stan Hansen is also extremely underrated. The guy was just bad ass and would knock your fucking head off if given the chance. Seriously, his work in Japan is unbelievably great.

However, as a team, Angle and Benoit were better, and as singles wrestlers they were better too. But, even still... I'm voting for Mercury and Hansen. Why? Well, I'm a HUGE mark for Mercury for one, but also... I really think kayfabe wise Mercury and Hansen would have Angle and Benoit's number. Can't really explain it, just a feeling, but one thing's for sure... if this match were to happen while all four of these guys were in their prime... man oh man what a show they would have put on.

This is by far the best match in the 1st Round of the tournament, in my opinion. It definitely would have been an instant 5 star classic, no matter what ring it took place in.

Does anyone acknowledge the detailed analysis behind the matches anymore? This is ECW Extreme Rules here & people are voting for two of the greatest technical wrestlers ever? It is madness.

Joey Mercury is a very underrated wrestler who has done so much for the business. He has essential tag team experience & being a tag team wrestler to train others in the process like JoMo. He has competed in many extreme rules type matches over his career & is very knowledgable in this area. Couple this with the fact that Stan Hansen has made a career in areas such as Japan & his well disciplined attitude of wrestling... with his incredible wrestling ability for these types of matches, it makes sense to pair these two together.

Hansen/Mercury for the win. If it was anywhere else other than the Dub, Angle/Benoit would kick extreme ass.

Yeah, I think everyone does realize this is ECW Falkon. How is this a disadvantage for Benoit and Angle? You do know Benoit started off in ECW, right? And wrestled for years in Japan? Angle and Benoit have both been in countless no disqualification matches (do you not remember the Angle vs. Shane McMahon street fight, one of the most brutal in WWE history?)

Hansen was fantastic. But he wasn't as good as Angle, and he sure as shit wasn't as good as Benoit. And I love Joey Mercury too, but how the fuck does he have more hardcore experience than Angle & Benoit? Because he's wrestled in the indies? So has Benoit.

There's no argument here. Benoit and Angle would win this, and win it easily. When one member of your tag team is better than both members of the opposing team combined, this shouldn't be a contest.

Because Hansen deserves a literal fighting chance, I'm voting for him and his scrub of a partner. If he can get either of his opponents alone, even outside the building, he can win this match while Mercury gets annihilated by the other opponent. We all know him as the guy that popped Vader's eye out, and neither of these guys are as big or mean as Vader. Benoit was close, but not nearly Vader in his Europe days.

Alas, I know they'll lose, but Lariat and the jobber FTW

benoit and angle here easily. they could win by submission or pinfall, and have all the in-ring skills needed. tough as nails and sadistic when they needed to be, no way they lose this.

Joey Matthews was in ECW for about as long as Benoit, so I'm not really sure that Benoit and Angle have the advantage there. Benoit and Angle didn't like each other but they were very functional as a team, and I think they'll have the edge here. Both Hansen and Mercury would be in their element in ECW, and this would certainly be a classic, but with Angle and Benoit coming out on top.

Fuck, this is an easy one. Angle and Benoit win extremely easy here. There's no way a team with Mercury could beat Angle and Benoit. Even if it was Mercury and Stone Cold, Angle and Benoit would still win.

I expect Angle/Benoit to go far in this tourney and there's no way they lose here in the first round against this team. Benoit and Angle FTMFW.

There is no way some random team is going to beat Angle and Benoit. If Kurt and Chris got along, they could still very well be the WWE Tag Team Champions since No Mercy, October 20, 2002. Hell, I’d even bet that they would win a Tournament match against the Mega Powers. Team Joey with Johnny and team Stan with anyone of his Championship Tag Team partners and put these two teams in a Triple Threat match against Team A/B (Alpha and Beta, because they are not only number one, their number one and two, they are that damn good), and Angle / Benoit would still pull it off.
