Was talking about this with someone the other day. JaMarcus Russel had a great college career, yet hasn't done anything in the pros. Yet, he still makes more money that many of the veterans in the league.
This isn't just about Russel, or even football specifcally, it's about rookie salaries in sports. Guys coming right out of college get paid millions upon millions of dollars and huge guaranteed signing bonuses without having done anything professionally.
Every year the salaries get higher and higher because you have to make more than the last guy who was picked in the same spot. I understand that these guys have shown that they are talented and deserve to get paid, but I don't think they should be getting the amounts of money that they are.
Obviously, this isn't going to change unless the individual leagues do something to regulate rookie salaries, something that likely wouldn't be very popular with players unions.
So, what do you think about rookie salaries in sports? Should something be done to change them, or are they fine as they are?
