ROH TV Title

G3

Weekend Warrior
I am glad ROH decided to make a second singles title. It kinda exciting actually.

Heres the bracket to determine the champion

I am hoping that El Generico will be able to win the championship. Ole! I can actually see putting the title on Davey Richards. I would rather see them have him after the ROH World Title.

So who are you guys pulling for?

Personally I would like to see it come down to Steen Vs Generico. The recent split, and now this TV title tourney with them on separate ends seems like it's made to bring their fued to a boiling point.

Though I would also really like to see Davey Vs Eddie. Would be fantastic too!

I've been saying for years that ROH needs another singles title and it is finally happening. The tournament is set to occur over the next weekend of TV tapings, which means I will be in attendance for the crowning of the first ROH TV champion! I'm beyond excited about that.

Looking over the bracket, I think there are a few good choices for a winner. Honestly, I think Rhett Titus and Eddie Edwards are the only 2 we can scratch out off the bat. The remaining 6 all have a realistic chance of being the first TV champion. My best guess as to how it will go down looks like this:

Round 1
Steen def. Titus
Cabana def. Edwards
Richards def. Delirious
King def. Generico

Round 2
Steen def. Cabana
Richards def. King

Title Match
Richards def. Steen

Right now Davey Richards is the hottest guy on the independent curcuit and since the departure of Bryan Danielson he has become without a doubt the darling of ROH fans. He is still playing the role of a heel but the past few months he's been getting the biggest pop of the night. The "Davey Richards" chants are almost deafening. I think ROH is going to capitalize on this.

I'm pulling for Kenny King all the way. He's improved a lot from the time he was in FIP to the time they brought him to ROH. He's exciting to watch, and makes the ring his playground. And he's charismatic in the ring, which is a lot in today's "Sports Entertainment" world.

On a side note... why did they bring in a new title instead of reviving the Pure Title. The Pure title was so much better. :(

I love this idea. ROH is notoriously patient, sometimes even overly slow, in making a title change involving their World Title. I can see the TV Title being a sort of try-out for guys who may be world champ material so they can get a run as a champion to see how the crowd reacts.

As for the actual tournament, I can see it going in a few different ways. Like RVDgurl said, Davey Richards is a very hot commodity right now, but with the Young Bucks leaving, Steenerico breaking up, and the Briscoes trying out with WWE, the tag team champs don't need to be splitting up right now and I think either of the Wolves getting the TV Title would lead to that.

Another possibility is an El Generico/Kevin Steen final leading into a feud between the two. I am a mark for both guys, so I think this would be awesome. Plus, either guy would make a great champion.

The final two possibilities are Colt Cabana and Kenny King. Both of these guys have gotten pushes lately and are at a point where they could hold a title, but not the World Title. Colt has always been really over and has been great since his return to ROH. King has been running with Aries and put out Jerry Lynn (I'm a few weeks behind on the show, just in case anything has changed) and would make a good heel champ.

I can't wait to see this because ROH needed another title, even though I also wish it would have been the Pure Title, and this really is a case in which any of these guys could walk out the first ever TV Champ.

It's about damn time, ROH has been in dire need of a midcard title ever since they scrapped the Pure Title, and with the direction the company has been headed in over the past year or so it wouldn't have made any sense to bring back that title. Bringing in a TV title helps in several ways. First it frees up their TV tapings to not be so chock full of world title matches every damn week. Defending the world title on TV is good every now and then but you can't do it nearly every damn week, it loses some of it's importance. Second, ever since the Pure title went away ROH has really been lacking that tool to push their midcarders up to the next level into the main event. It's what held guys like Black and Richards back for so long, and now with a real bonafide midcard title the company has some real grounding again and can plan for their future. And finally, it helps to get some of ROH's very best workers right now get some spotlight that they wouldn't normally have because they aren't deemed "Main event worthy", and that describes a large portion of ROH's roster. Without a doubt this title was tailor-made for Davey Richards, so I look for him to do good things with this title. It's really only a matter of time before he's in in that main event scene, and this is the most logical way to build him up to do so.

Good move by ROH, definitely helps them in the long run.

The thing I find funny is how TNA has been around for almost 10 years now and has yet to come up with a mid-card belt like a TV title. ROH has been around for not near that long, probably makes less than TNA, and they are on the verge of having one. My thoughts, THANK GOD. Thank god that ROH seems to actually KNOW what they're doing. First off with regards to the tournament, there is not one bad wrestler in it. There is not one guy that I think "Oh for crying out loud, why is he in it?" I'm curious to see where the split between Steen and Generico goes and I think that it will come to them in the finals. I also would love to see Cabana and Steen collide. Given it's not in the finals but that would be a match I'm looking forward to. The Wolves are great talent in themselves, especially Richards and I see a title of some kind in King's future. I also am a big mark for Delirious because I love his matches and love how committed he is to the character. Plus, lets not forget some guys that are not in the tournament and how having a TV title will help to move them up. Guys like Roderick Strong and also guys like Jimmy Rave or Erick Stevens which would not only help move either of them up, but would add a little bit of heel leverage for the Embassy. Great move by ROH and I can't wait to see what's next.

ROH came first by a couple of months. Roh - February 2002, TNA - May 2002.

On topic, I'm happy with those brackets. There's lots of potential for fueds to continue or start up, and every one of the first round matches could be a good one. My only hope is that Cabana and Delirious don't make it past the first round.

I always enjoy tournoments so this will be fun to watch. I am looking forward to see what the belt actually looks like.

About fucking time. The Pure title was a fun little title, but for a midcard title on a weekly TV show, it wouldn't have worked out well. The TV title however will be a welcome addition and it was something that was needed for quite awhile. It gives the mid carders/upper midcarders something to battle over and can open up a lot of opportunities for the roster. You have guys like Kenny King, Delirious, Titus, etc. who are not quite ready for the World Title, but definitely guys who would carry the TV title very well.

This will also give ROH the ability to showcase talent such as Davey Richards who will more than likely be in the World Title scene in the near future and moonlight feuds like Generico/Steen. As far as how the tournament goes, I have a feeling they'll end up with Steen vs. Generico for the title, as I think Davey is getting moved up to the ME scene and either Generico or Steen would be a good fit for the TV Title. Regardless I want to see how this Generico/Steen feud goes.

I wonder if they'll call it the ROH World Television title. Rightfully so, they can do that since it's defended world wide. Plus, it gives it some more credibility.

The American Wolves in the Final would be a money match... well... as money as it gets at an ROH TV Taping anyway. It really doesn't matter who wins that either, both would be welcome, Davey's earned it already, Eddie's underrated and it would be a way to draw attention to his skills, it would add to the tension they've been denying and well... who wouldn't want to see those two go at it after spending over a year having each other's backs and decimating the entire roster?

Well it looks like we will be waiting a little longer than planned to crown the first TV champion. The ROH show for today was cancelled (yeah, I found this out an hour into my drive. Ugh) and it will not be rescheduled. There won't be another TV taping until March 5th and it looks like the tournament will carry over until then.
