Rocky/Apollo

Does anyone else see the similarities between John Cena and Kevin Owens comparatively to Rocky?

Rocky was a nobody until Apollo gave him a chance. Owens gets a break by getting a shot at Cena. By the way, Cena=Apollo/Owens=Rocky.

Rocky wears a shirt that says "Win Rocky Win."

My phone is about to die, otherwise I'd state more similarities haha

Nah, the original Rocky is more of a love story than anything else. Plus, Owens beat Cena in their first match. Rocky couldn't get the job done. Rocky won the hearts of the fans, Owens continues to be a heel.

Plus it is questionable if Owens could run up all those steps.

Owens Cena has been more Rocky III. Where Owens is Clubber Lang and Cena is Rocky, the aging vet who is shown defending his title against a bunch of chumps (the US Title Open Challenge) only to get beat by a disrespectful outsider then eventually refocuses and gets his focus and win back.

I could even argue that Machine Gun Kelly is Mickey but that would be a stretch.

By the way, Cena=Apollo/Owens=Rocky.

Which seems indicative of the negative opinion many folks have of Cena.

Apollo was the bad guy; arrogant, overconfident and dismissive of his opponent's abilities. That describes Owens a lot more than Cena.

I can sooner agree with George Steele's Barber's post about Rocky III in which Owens represents Clubber Lang, the bad guy who emerges to defeat the accomplished champion. The results of the two fights between Rocky and Lang sooner match the Cena/Owens decisions, too.

I'd say Cena's first match against Angle is more of a Rocky/Apollo story. Cena was the good guy, a nobody, and took Angle, the established star, to his limit. Just like Rocky took Apollo to his limit but still lost.
