I have seen a lot of people make fools of themselves on the internet over this, see if youcan do any better:

Two planes take off at the same exact moment.They are flying across the Atlantic. One leaves New York and is flying to Paris at 500 miles per hour. The other leaves Paris and is flying to New York at just 450 miles per hour. Which one will be closer to Paris when they meet?

Well, there are two ways to look at this.

A lot of people will probably argue that since the NY bound plane is flying away, that the Paris bound plane is technically closer since it will arrive in Paris shortly while the other plane is getting farther away...This is a stupid argument.


The most obviously correct answer is that, when they meet, they will both be the exact same distance from Paris, so it's a trick question.

Firstly, the altitude of both aircraft is required.

Secondly, the wind strength and direction is required

thirdly, (and perhaps the most pedantic), the exact route to be taken is required -this is not the same for all aircraft and operators!

I've gotta agree with this guy.
