Report: Vince & Multi-Person Matches

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been storyline changes regarding The Authority and its overall role for WrestleMania. The report particularly addresses Vince McMahon's role for the big show and, allegedly, the role is that he's not going to have a role for WrestleMania XXX. The report further states that there's absolutely no hint of Vince returning to television or to be part of WrestleMania XXX.

Furthermore, the report states that the proposed power struggle storyline between Vince & Triple H for control of the company has been nixed. The storyline has been talked about for months and was beginning last summer before Triple H's heel turn at SummerSlam. It would involve Triple H wrestling someone serving as a surrogate for Vince or both guys having surrogates wrestling each other at WrestleMania. The last I'd heard anything about it, Vince was being considered for the role of babyface. But, if the report is correct, it's not gonna be happening at all.

There's also mention of WWE doing some multi-person matches at WrestleMania. One of these matches would be a multi-Diva match of some sort and having multiple tag teams compete in a match for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

If the power struggle idea is indeed off, then I'm really glad. With Triple H & Vince involved, there was too much of a chance of them ultimately being the center of WrestleMania and, in my opinion, it would've been mediocre. That's especially true with Vince playing the role of a babyface. Most of the attention would be on Vince & Trips rather than on whomever the surrogate or surrogates were. A match between Vince & Triple H themselves wouldn't exactly be a barn burner either. Dunno about you, but the notion of Triple H beating up his 68 year old father in law doesn't blow my skirt up.

As far as a multi-Diva match, couldn't care less really, but I like the idea of a multi-team match for the tag titles.

Vince VS Triple H was a fun idea back in the late 90's, when Vince and Triple H had their street fight at Armageddon 1999, and Stephanie turned on Vince at the pay per view to start the McMahon-Helmsley era.

Now? I have no interest whatsoever in seeing Vince and Triple H feud, so I'm glad they scrapped the plans. The Authority has a strong presence on Raw (especially Raw) and Smackdown as it is, so a Vince/Triple H feud on top of all that is overkill. Plus, Triple H is still in great shape, he can go in the ring, and a Triple H has the name value of legend, so his match will create a good amount of buzz on the card. Having Triple H beat up Vince, or Triple H against a surrogate is a waste of Triple H and a valuable spot at Wrestlemania.

I have no interest in the multi-Dvia match, because Tamina VS AJ is a more intriguing feud and match up, but WWE has to find a way to fit a good amount of Divas on the card in one match. No problems with multi-team tag match, though. Ryback, Axel, Rhodes, Goldust, and The Usos challenging The NAO for the titles works for me, but it's time for The Usos to walk away with the straps.

It wasn't an idea that I was entire opposed to, if Mr. McMahon's representative was the right guy. It has the potential to be an interesting take on the power struggle storyline, with a bigger sprinkle of reality than I remember such a storyline having with the aging owner going up against the daughter and son-in-law that everybody knows are going to take full control sooner or later. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if the idea was shelved rather than scrapped altogether; after all, the only particular set of circumstances that it requires are for Triple H to be a heel, and Vince McMahon to be healthy enough to appear in an on screen capacity. There was no urgent need for the program, if it's going to happen, to happen so soon into Triple H's reign of authority.

Mixed feelings about Vince/Trips. So much in WWE programming has mirrored real life, and I've held vague hopes that a staged battle between the two would occur when Vince was ready to ride off into the sunset for real.

Of course, that may be exactly why the expected struggle isn't taking place at this time; because Vince isn't letting go of the reins, and......in fact....he might never do so until he dies (and we're not even sure he will then).

A third alternative is that they might do it next year or the year after. Sure, Trips and Stephanie will be that much more established as an authority by then, but there's always the chance Vince will emerge, dissatisfied at the way things are being run, and challenge the two for control. If it happens that way, Vince could truly play the babyface, looking to "save" his company.

Or, Trips/Steph might be fully established as good guys at that time, with Vince showing up as a heel to launch a hostile (& nasty) takeover.

So, even if we're not going to see an Authority struggle this year, that doesn't mean it will never happen.

Multi-man match for the tag titles makes sense. They've done some good work over the past year or so with the few teams they have and while I'm not a fan of putting guys on the card just for the sake of it, The Usos, Real Americans & The Brotherhood are all worthy of a self-contained match on the card. Give them ten minutes and let them do whatever they want.

Diva's match? Who cares. A.J. peaked a while ago and there are no suitable contenders. Even if they add every female they have into the match. If they want a women's match, give Lita a call. Give her the send-off she should've got in 2006.

the only way this match would work now is if a returning CM Punk was brought back the Monday before Wrestlemania to represent Vince against Triple H for control of the company, pushing Bryan into the WWE title match. Would spike buy rates for Mania 30 I am sure if Punk was added 6 days out, or in the weeks leading up to the card.
Not sure where WWE and Punk are at, nobody does but surely he wouldnt want to forgo a six figure payday. AJ Lee will be on the card, surely he would want to support his partner in the biggest match of her career also.
