Report: Future Of A Veteran Diva In Question?

According to PWInsider.com, there's speculation among some in WWE that the in-ring career of WWE Diva Layla might be over. Layla has been MIA for quite a while now and the site reports that her disappearance from television the past few months is due to her not being cleared to wrestle. The issue of why she hasn't been cleared, apparently, hasn't been specified.

Back in May 2011, at the Extreme Rules ppv, Layla both her ACL and MCL in one of her knees, putting her on the shelf for the next 10 months. Reports say she worked extremely hard to heal up and rehab as quickly as possible, earning her a lot of praise. All in all, however, Layla really hasn't been much of a presence throughout 2013 beyond a brief feud with Tamina, an alliance with Kaitlyn that was originally supposed to involve a heel turn that put her into a feud with Kaitlyn over the Divas Championship and a heel turn that did happen in which she aligned herself with AJ Lee for a while before disappearing altogether.

At 36.5 years of age, Layla is the oldest Diva on the roster with Tamina being only about 6 months younger. Whatever the situation is, whether it be problems with her knee or some other health issue altogether, I think the writing's been on the wall for some time that Layla's days as a top fixture in the Divas Division are over. I can see her being kept on in some role for the WWE Network either as some sort of host or commentator for any number of programs or possibly helping out as an additional trainer in NXT.

Yeah, given her age, injury and calling up of NXT stars (Summer, Emma, Lana) her wrestling presence will be minimal, if non existent. That is unfortunate as Layla is actually one of the best wrestlers on the roster. She has shown her ability to chain wrestle and has a decent move set. Hopefully, if she doesn't decide to leave on her own, she'll work as an announcer or as a WWE ambassador. She is from the UK and the WWE has a huge international fan base, so it may workout for her.

Layla could make a few bucks letting me fingerbang her butthole and recording it on my iPhone.

A rather perverse idea, it's a shame, no offense to her, but women are expendable in the world of WWE. Not many get to be a Trish Stratus or a Lita, where they can choose to leave on their own accord.

I doubt it'll be very little time before we see the words "future endeavors" being preceded by Layla's name. I've heard she's been through a lot and it's a shame, but in the grand spectrum of things, she's had herself a decent run if this is truly it.

Hopefully they can give her a trainer role to help improve the future generation of divas, god knows they need it.

Honestly, before I read this, I had no idea Layla was still on the roster.

Yeah, her days of being a prominent Diva on the roster are over, and with the Total Divas barrage in full force, it's hard to picture a scenario, where Layla will receive a significant amount of screen time. She has nothing to be ashamed of, though.

Layla had a good run with Michelle McCool in LayCool, and a few years with sporadic runs in the spotlight for the divisions afterwards. And who knows, there's a chance WWE could induct McCool and Layla together as team for the Hall Of Fame in the future.

Wow what a shame if this is true, but not surprising at all! Layla was a decent worker, always liked her, could play both face and heel rather well. Athletically gifted, but her knees betrayed her in the end. It is indeed a shame that the WWE disregards these poor divas,Trish and Lita are a elite few who can go out on their own accord! I wish Layla Well

How many MALE wrestlers can go out on their own accord?

I'm not sure what you expect the WWE do here. Have some grand send-off on RAW for a diva that the majority of the audience hasn't realized has been off TV in the first place?

She's had a good run. She won the Diva's search in about 2005/2006, didn't she?

She only caught on as a performer as part of LayCool. That ended a while ago and Layla should've been moved on a short time after that.

The thing that is sad is that she did come a hell of a long way from Diva Search winner with no skill to being a pretty solid worker. She's not HOF material by any stretch but she travelled the road lesser travelled and actually did herself justice.

Most won't care she's retired, but I wouldn't be shocked if you get someone like Regal, her fellow Brit giving her a nice send off on the website or something. But she could still be a manager type, although as she is older as there is only really room for Vicki...
