Report: Batista To Star In 80s Action Film Remake

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
According to The Hollywood Report, Batista is set to appear in a remake of the 1989 film Kickboxer. The lead role will be portrayed by stuntman and martial artist Alain Moussi, whom I've never heard of, and the cast will also include MMA star and 2 time UFC Middleweight Champion Georges St.-Pierre. There's nothing mentioned as to when the film will begin production, nor what St. Pierre's and Batista's roles will be. In late March, GSP announced via Twitter that he'd torn his left ACL while training and that the injury will require surgery. I don't know if he's already undergone surgery or how long his rehab is expected to take. GSP made a brief appearance as the character Georges Batroc, known in comics as Batroc The Leaper, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Batroc is a French mercenary in peak physical condition and is a master of the French kickboxing style Savate.

I'm not really expecting either guy to have a significant role in the movie. I'd say that they'll ultimately wind up being a couple of minor characters, fighters that the lead character will have to face or one of them will wind up facing the primary villain in the film and be obliterated to show off said villain's dominance.

As far as wrestling, I think this story could be great because Batista seems to be the only heel with LEGIT heat with the fans, and maybe even within the company, although it doesn't seem that way.

There are a great amount of fans of have genuine disdain for Hollywood starts and such, maybe partially from the whole guest host era we had to go through...

Say what you want about Batista, but a match between he and Daniel Bryan would be a feud where I'd say almost the entire crowd will be behind DB for. I think it would be great.

i'm most likely, if not most definitely, in the minority when it comes to Batista. i've always kinda liked him as a wrestler between the ropes. typically enjoy his work.

however, i've not seen a single one of his films to date. that'll change this year as i plan to watch Guardians of the Galaxy. not so much for his role, but i am curious to see how he does with it.

ever see the movie "Warrior"? it's a MMA-themed movie about 2 brothers that enter a world-wide tournament to see who is the best fighter on the planet. Kurt Angle has a cameo role as the odds-on-favorite to win the whole thing. tough looking bad guy with minor dialogue. i'd guess Batista will have a similar role in this remake.

curious to see what this does for his career, both in the ring and on the stage.

the cast will also include MMA star and 2 time UFC Middleweight Champion Georges St.-Pierre.

He was actually the Welterweight champ 😊

I'm pretty excited for this, although when I first read about this earlier I was under the impression that St. Pierre was the lead role which had me a lot more pumped than I am now. But still the inclusion of him in the cast along with Batista is enough to get me to go see it. I'm a big fan of the original so I'm going to do my best to not compare them to each other because if I do that it'll ruin it.

If it's remotely close to the original then there are 2 roles Dave works for either the brother who gets hurt, which might come at the end of the first movie... or as the Donald Gibb "buddy" role.

I don't see him being able to pull off the Tong Po type role, but GSP easily could. To be honest it shows that Dave isn't hugely confident this Marvel thing is gonna come out as he wants... or maybe he's pissed them off already.

Kickboxer was fine for what it was and Batista could be okay for the Dennis Alexio's Eric Sloane role but surely Big Dave would be far better suited for the Ray Jackson (as portrayed by Revenge of the Nerds' Ogre, Donald Gibb) role in the simpler, but more fun Bloodsport.

While Eric does have comic moments, his main reason in KB is the emotional driver to his brother from very early doors in the film. Ray, while he is a similar driver to the story, his 'Eric' moment is much much later in the film and he is very much comic relief to that moment.

That's kinda my point though, as the "star" is unknown, they make the first movie about Dave's character, going to the tournament etc and the finale is he gets hurt/crippled... setting it up for the brother to take it on with him as a mentor type combining both roles of the brother and the buddy (as both end up hurt).

Not having a pop man - I actually didn't see you post until after I'd hit submit as I was having my tea. That's what I tried to express to you in my rep.

Don't know how much the studio could work Batista as the main protagonist in basically a set up for a part two given that it appears to be aimed more at the aerobic side of martial arts as opposed to, what you'd have to imagine, the ground and pound Big Dave brings to the table. Plus, it could well put paying customers off ending the first film on such a downer.

In fact, the aerobic stylistics of Kickboxer is the reason I believe Bloodsport is the better option to remake given that from the opening montage of that movie, we're to believe that we have every style of fighter appearing in this illegal Kumite... although that does have it's negatives given the lack of success of the likes of Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat and D.O.A.: Dead or Alive. Then again both KB and BS are extremely cheesetastic, so whatever comes should be interesting if only for morbid curiosity reasons.

I am pretty sure they'd meld the two films... characters from both... neither on their own would be a great remake or have potential for the franchise they mentioned but splicing them would do...

Batista in Kickboxer?

It makes you think he'el appear in anything just to make money, his movie roles to date have been shit (dunno about GOTG)

If the hype is to be believed about GOTG, that could be Big Dave's breakout role & the movie offers will pour in. NOT!!!!!

Just wondering how they are gonna re-do this scene. lol
