Remember The Titans

TSG

Too Sweet To Be Sour
RTT is a 2000 Disney Movie based on a true story. In 1971, Alexandria, Virginia consolidated into T.C. Williams high school. Racial Tensions were very high, an incoming black coach was promoted to head coach of the football team, and racism was at a peak. Now, a team of blacks and whites had to learn to get along and play together while facing challenging issues and threats.

This is a movie that I really enjoy. It is one of my favorites and as a high school football player, it really inspires me to be my best and play as a team. What are your thoughts about this movie?

I think Remember The Titans is fantastic movie. A couple of months ago, when the Sports Debaters League was on the go, I actually argued that in my opinion, this was the greatest sports movie of all-time. A terrific story, loosely based upon reality, with a LOT of creative license from the producers, but still reality based nonetheless. Denzel Washington is one of the premiere actors of our era. And it is a feel good story which would be entertaining even if it wasn't based upon true events.

Excellent choice for a movie to be discussed.

Denzel Washington really excelled in this role. His speech during camp as the site of Gettysburg was acting brilliance, and when my English teacher wanted a piece to analyze during class, not only did she happen upon this and like it enough to use it, but most of the kids recognized it.

I can see how this could be argued as the greatest sports film ever. I has all the great elements, and I know it has been altered alot, but it still has it's basis in reality and is an extremely great film. Everything about it is something to enjoy, and the acting was superb. The power struggle between the coaches and players really documents an aspect of real life sports that does actually happen often, so that is just another one of those aspect that can be related back to real life also.

I think it's a great movie. The plot is a true story from many years ago. Generally any football movie is a logical choice for a guys hangout evening, and Remember the Titans is no exception to that theory because not only is it a football movie but it's got a good story too. It teaches the viewer to be accepting of others, something more movies should strive to do. The soundtrack's not bad either with some old classics on it, recommended to those who want to check that out.

The soundtrack is another great thing in the movie. With such classics as "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress," "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and others, the soundtrack really sets the mood for the movie and portrays the emotions felt. Like I said before, everything about the movie is great.

Denzel Washington really excelled in this role.

He really did. With the star power that Denzel commands, he could have demanded that he be depicted as a perfect human being, but one of the prime reasons the film works so well is because he didn't. He comes off as a flawed, yet courageous man who battles the odds and comes out on top. A great role for him.

I loved the interaction between the two actors who played Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell; it highlighted study of the racial tensions that ran through the whole movie while illustrating successfully that no person is completely bad or completely good. Their relationship permeated through the entire production, touching every other character in the film.

One more thing: After watching the film, I wanted to wrap up "Sunshine" Ronnie Bass and take him home with me.:)

emember the Titans is much more than a story about a high school football team. It is a true story about two men who overcome their differences and help an entire town deal with frustration, anger, and mistrust. Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is the head coach of the football team at the black high school while Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is the head coach of the football team at the white high school. In 1971 the high schools are integrated and Coach Boone is chosen to become the head coach of the football team while Coach Yoast is demoted to assistant coach.

Remember the Titans is a powerful film with incredible performances by both Denzel Washington and Will Patton.

RTT's is an excellent movie. It had enough elements in it to keep me greatly entertained. It's a heart warming story, and the racial element really kept this movie going for me. Overcoming the race issue and all of the funny moments stringed together a story of comradery. The actors played their parts very well, and Washington and Patton do fantastic. This movie helped define that era to later generations that really didn't know what it was like. And it showed that just because Jim Crow was dying, it didn't mean racism did.

I'd recommend it to anyone, and I hate sports in general.

It is a great feel good movie, and the fact that Coach Boon is played by Mr Washington, the best actor of his generation only makes it better.

I love how he brings the black kids and the white kids together and helps them all to overcome their differences and learn to trust and love one another and to play as a team. It is extremely inspiring. It was recommended to me by a friend who is a big NFL fan, and initially I was not interested, as I know nothing about the sport. But, when I saw it was my man Denzel, I had to see it. And then I watched it again.

It really is a fantastic movie, and I never tire of it. The fact it is based on a true story makes me like it even more. If you have never seen it, you need to.

Actually, it's just based on a true story. Being that it was already 1971 and hundreds, if not thousands of other schools had been integrated, so while there was some tension regarding Boone and Yoast, there was little racial tension, and most of the football players were just concerned with keeping their spot to another player, regardless of race.

There are still a lot of accuracies. Julius and Gerry really did become best friends, and Gerry did get in that awful car accident. Many of the stories were true, just exaggerated in typical Disney fashion.

All that said, I love this movie, it gets me every time. People overcoming pejudices is my all time favorite thing in movies.
