Rebooking Survivor Series 2001

King Patrick Star

K. O. T. R. 2007 -€“ Team Undisputed
I’m assuming since the Survivor Series is over and we’re headed to the TLC, that MMK isn’t going to continue this series. Since I’ve typed up “Rebooking Survivor Series” up to 2001, I thought I’d continue it. Here goes my version of Survivor Series 2001.

This is not the end of the Invasion angle, it’s only the beginning.

Women’s Championship Title Six-Pack Challenge match
Trish Stratus vs. Lita vs. Jacqueline vs. Mighty Molly vs. Jazz vs. Ivory

Billy Gunn, Crash Holly, Funaki, and Perry Saturn
vs.
Billy Kidman, Chuck Palumbo, the Hurricane, and Shawn Stasiak

Albert, Scotty 2 Hotty, Spike Dudley and Tazz,
vs.
Lance Storm, Justin Credible, Raven, and Tommy Dreamer

Tajiri, Al Snow, and the A.P.A. (Faarooq and Bradshaw)
vs.
Christian, William Regal, Hugh Morrus, and Chavo Guerrero

Chris Jericho, the Brothers of Destruction (the Undertaker and Kane), and Big Show
vs.
Kurt Angle, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page and Rob Van Dam

Winner Take All…of the Championship Title Belts
The Rock, Edge, and the Hardy Boyz (Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy)
vs.
Stone Cold Steve Austin, Test, and the Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) (with Stacy Keibler)

I tried to keep everyone that was on the original card on my version. Instead of one 5-on-5 traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team matches, two Championship Title Unification matches, two more Championship Title matches, a Battle Royal, a Six-Man Tag Team match, and a singles match, I made it five 4-on-4 matches and kept the Women’s Championship title Six-Pack Challenge match. The only SuperStars who were on the original card that didn’t make it to my revision are Shane McMahon and Stevie Richards.

first things first, the main event

Team WWF (The Rock, Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Kane and Edge, who would've been added to the team after he won the US and IC title and the story would be that Team WWF is missing ONE guy and then they decide that night that they want Edge, that would be a huge rub for him too) vs. Team WCW/ECW (Kurt Angle has to be here since he turned on his team, Stone Cold, Booker T, RVD and finally DDP, i know at the time DDP wasnt a major player, but he was/is a huge part of WCW and should've been in this).....winner, clearly WWF...Rock pins Stone Cold after Angle turns on team WCW/ECW

Team Regal (Christian, Lance Storm, Regal himself and Tommy Dreamer) vs. Team Foley (Foley of course, Al Snow, Tajiri and Spike Dudley)....survivors Foley and Tajiri.

Edge vs. Test (IC vs US title)....Edge wins and has a big night.

Immunity Battle Royal......Test loses the IC title, enters the Battle Royal, gains immunity.

i wouldn't change the Women's title match at all or the Tag Team title match with the exception of the ending when they tried to turn Matt Hardy, but it lasted until around the Royal Rumble. so that sounds about right to me, having Team WWF vs WCW/ECW would be the main event and the battle of the Commissioners would also be a good story.

King Patrick, I understand your love of traditional Survivor Series matches, but I'm not a fan of that card at all, especially the main event being for all the title belts. That makes all of the other matches absolutely meaningless, and including Test and The Hardy Boyz in what is arguably the biggest match of all time with Taker/Kane/Angle etc in an earlier match doesn't make sense to me.

I've just re-looked at the real card of the 2001 Survivor Series and there really isn't much I would change, due to most of the bigger name WCW guys not being on the roster.

The one thing I would like to have seen however, is the debut of Ric Flair, rather than on Raw the following night after the Alliance storyline ended. There was no need to kill it off when they did, it should have ran for months longer. I would have a masked man interfere in the main event, costing Team WWF the match before revealing himself as "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, the WCW legend who couldn't bear to see HIS brand die a second death.

This was supposed to be a huge ppv for everyone involved BUT I just feel that some of it was a huge let down where they only concentrated on one or two matches, I would probably scrap most of the card and start from scratch, my card would be:

Sunday Night Heat
1) Dreamer, Richards, Credible & Raven Vs Albert, Spike, Scotty & Funaki
8 Man Survivor Series Elimination Match. I would make this an 8 man elimination match on SNH with The Alliance winning and have Credible and Raven survive.

Main Card
1) Regal, Christian, Storm & Hurricane Vs Foley, Tajiri, Saturn & Al Snow
8 Man Survivor Series Elimination Match. I saw this on someone else's card and I like it and I would have Regal & Storm survive the match to make them look strong in the process.

2) O'Haire, Palumbo, Stasiak & Morris Vs The Apa, Hardcore Holly & Billy Gunn
8 Man Survivor Series Elimination Match. I would like to reform the Natural Born Thrillers, sort of just for one night BUT add Hugh Morris to the match and I would have both members of the APA survive the match.

3) Edge (C) Vs Test (C)
Intercontinental and United States Title Unification Match. Stays the same, I thought it was a good match for both men.

4) The Hardy Boyz (C) Vs The Dudley Boyz (C)
Wwf Tag Team Titles Vs Wcw Tag Team Titles Steel Cage Match. Another match that should stay on the card, it was enjoyable and I wouldn't turn Matt heel after this, it was pretty pointless tbh only for them to reform at the Royal Rumble then split again in the summer of 02.

5) Trish Stratus Vs Jazz Vs Lita Vs Molly Holly Vs Jaqueline Vs Ivory
Women's Title Six Pack Elimination Match. Stays the same except I'd make it an elimination match with it coming down to Stratus and Jazz and have Stratus finally win the title.

6) Immunity Battle Royal Match.
I would keep this on the card and have everyone who participated in a match and have Foley that banged up that he puts Big Show in the match as his replacement, I've taken Show out of the main event and put him in here, the final four would be Lance Storm, Test, Billy Gunn & Tazz with it coming down to Storm and Gunn and I would have Storm win the match.

7) Rock, Jericho, Angle, Undertaker & Kane Vs Stone Cold, Booker, RVD, DDP & Shane
10 Man Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Winner Takes All Match. I would keep this the same except keep Angle on the WWF and have DDP move back into the main event. It comes down to Rock and Austin with Jericho turning heel and trying to cost Rock the match.

In the after match of survivor series I would give pushes to Booker, Van Dam, Big Show and Storm and have Show pushed as a monster whilst Storm gets built up to be a credible main eventer, likewise with Booker and I would keep O'Haire with Palumbo, I liked them as a tag team, I think they could of gotten somewhere.

- Edge vs Test - USA and IC titles unification match, with September 11 attack, i think USA title should be the one to stay, Edge still the winner

-Dudleys (ECW) vs Hardys (WWF) vs O'haire & Palumbo (WCW) - tag titles, the whole 3 brands should fight for it - Dudleys wins

- APA vs Kronik - Kronik were used once and never again, but were a big part of WCW in 2000-2001, so why not, squash, APA wins

- Vince McMahon vs Paul Heyman street fight - with the last SD before the Survivor Series it was very easy to book, sure Heyman is not a wrestler, not even Shane, but this could be very personal and use alot of run ins from the guys who wasn't there alot and couldn't compete but deserve to be there (HHH & HBK for example, Dreamer, Raven, Rhyno, Shane McMahon etc)

- Lita & Trish vs Torie & Stacy - iconic Divas of both brands goes on it, Lita & Trish wins

- Angle vs Regal - wrestling clinic, the feud could be made just here as Regal could play coward and defect back to WWF this very night, and you don't have Angle as Alliance member in main event

- Immunity battle royal - Christian wins

Main event: Big Show, Kane, Undertaker, Rock, Jericho vs DDP, Booker T, Austin, RVD & ??? (Angle replacement).
With Flair debuting the night right after Survivor Series, why not give WCW some legit star power and use him here, and Austin is the mole of course (SD ending was perfect for it).

WWF European Champion vs. WCW Cruiserweight Champion
Non-Title
Christian vs. Tajiri

Tajiri was originally supposed to face X-Pac in a unification match for the Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight belts but for some reason X-Pac couldn't make the match. My guess is he was injured as he didn't appear again until April 2002. As a replacement opponent, put the European Champ, Christian, against the Cruiserweight Champ. It's non-title, no unification as the European Title is above the Cruiserweight Title, it only makes sense to unify the LHW and Cruiser belts, but it's still a Champion vs. Champion match. Christian wins.

WWF Hardcore Championship
Hardcore Match
Rhyno (c) vs. Al Snow

Have Rhyno win the Hardcore belt on Raw or Smackdown but in a Triple Threat or Fatal 4 Way that also involves WWF guys, so RVD doesn't take the fall. I have a better matchup in mind for RVD later in the card. Rhyno/Snow would be a fun hardcore match. Rhyno retains.

WWF Intercontinental Champion vs. WCW United States Champion
Title Unification
Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Edge (c)

After Rob loses the Hardcore Title, he wins the IC Title on Raw/Smackdown while Edge wins the US Title. Both RVD and Edge were the hottest midcarders at the time and I would love to have seen those two guys face each other as midcarders. The only time I recall them facing each other was at Vengeance 2006 for the WWE Title. Rob Van Dam unifies the IC and US Titles.

WWF Tag Team Champions vs. WCW Tag Team Champions
Title Unification
Steel Cage Match
The Hardy Boyz (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz (c)

Stays the same.

Immunity Battle Royal
Stays the same except Test doesn't attack Scotty 2 Hotty before the match and take his place. He's already in it and wins.

Kurt Angle vs. William Regal
Kudos to the poster above for this idea. Had never thought about this match but I love it and it makes sense since it was Regal who cost Angle the WWF Title in his Raw rematch with Austin and turned on the WWF. It is a stepdown for Angle from the main event especially since he was in the title picture for all of the Invasion but this would be a wrestling clinic and would probably go down as a classic. Angle wins.

Womens Championship
Six-Pack Challenge Match
Trish Stratus vs. Lita vs. Jacqueline vs. Mighty Molly vs. Jazz vs. Ivory

Stays the same.

Team WWF vs. The Alliance
Winner Take All
The Rock, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, Kane and Vince McMahon vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Big Show and Shane McMahon

Vince was originally supposed to be on Team WWF before he was replaced by Show but I'm not sure why he backed out. I replaced Angle and RVD with DDP (without that stupid inspirational gimmick) and Show to put proper credible WCW names on the team. Shame NWO, Goldberg, Sting, Flair etc. didn't take part in the Invasion but Show, DDP and Booker were the only big names from WCW that were around (Jericho wasn't a big name in WCW before anyone mentions him). I know this leaves no ECW guy on the team but by this point it wasn't really about WCW and ECW anymore, it was about The Alliance as a whole. There was only one ECW guy on the team anyway unless you include Austin who's been in all 3 promotions. As for the mole in The Alliance, I guess it could be Big Show although he isn't as big a reveal as Angle but Angle being the mole was no surprise, so does it really matter when we all knew who it was? Show would've been obvious too if it were him. Team WWF win.
