Rebook a Wrestlemania

WrestleMania 23:

Dark: Fatal 4 Way Lumberjack Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Chavo Guerrero (C) def. Gregory Helmes, Brian Kendrick and Paul London.

1.Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Mr. Kennedy def. King Booker & Finlay & Kane & Elijah Burke & Sabu & Chris Masters & William Regal.

2.Tag Team Match for the World Tag Team Championships
The Hardy Boys def. The World's Greatest Tag Team (C).

3.Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
MVP def. Chris Benoit (C).

4.Lumberjill Match for the WWE Women's Championship
Melina (C) def. Mickie James

5.Hardcore Match for the ECW Championship
Cm Punk (C) def. Rob Van Dam.

6.Singles Match
Edge def. Shawn Michales

7.Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Ric Flair and Carlito def. MNM (C).

8.Hair vs Hair "Battle of the Billionaires" with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Guest Referee
Bobby Lashley def. Umaga

9.Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
The Undertaker def. Batista (C)
Same. The match deserved to be the main event. Only difference is that at No Way Out, Batista succesfullt defends the title inside the Cage against both Chris Benoit and MVP. Meanwhile, The Undertaker will defeat Mr. Kennedy in a Buried Alive Match to cap off their feud.

10.Singles Match for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton (C) def. John Cena.
Orton wins a triple threat match with Edge and Cena at the Royal Rumble to win the title. Cena says he deserves a rematch, but he is put in a triple threat with Edge and HBK for the No.1 Contender spot. Cena wins. At No Way Out, there is a Tag Team Steel Cage Match for the world tag titles where, Rated-RKO lose their belts to the team of John Cena and Shawn Michales. On the next Raw episode, they cost Michales and Cena the titles to The WGTT.

WrestleMania XX:

1.Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
John Cena def. The Big Show (C)
Same.

2.Tag Team Match for the World Tag Team Championship
Ric Flair and Batista def. Rob Van Dam and Booker T (C).
Have it 2 on 2. Evolution's rematch. They win clean, with Batista pinning RVD.

3.APA Bar Room Brawl
John Bradshaw Layfield def. Farrouq
Have a real feud between the new JBL and Farrouq. JBL wins clean, Faroouq retires.

4.Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship
Lita def. Trish Stratus (C).
It needed to happen!!

5.Twenty Man WrestleMania Battle Royal with the Winner getting a Future WWE or World Heavyweight Championship Shot
Shelton Benjamin won by last eliminating Mark Henry.
Shelton was pushed after WM, so I'll give him this moment. He turns on Charlie Hass at the end of the match eliminates him, and then eliminates Henry to win.

6.Buried Alive Match
The Undertaker def. Kane
Same story. Taker costs Kane his WHC upon his return. The match is Buried Alive and it's tied into the storyline. Streak lives.

7.Hardcore Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Randy Orton (C) def. Mick Foley.
Their match from Backlash happening a month earlier.

8.Singles Match
Christian def. Chris Jericho
Same.

9.Loser Must Leave WWE Match
Kurt Angle def. Bill Goldberg
For starters Goldberg is on SmackDown in my viewing. He wins the WWE Title from Lesnar at Summer Slam, and drops it back to him at Survivor Series inside Hell In A Cell. Basically he and Angle never faced off. Goldberg attacks Angle after a WWE Title match with Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. Angle vs Bill is signed to a Loser Must Leave match. Angle wins clean, sending off Goldberg.

10.No Holds Barred Match
Triple H def. The Rock
It looked to be the match they were building towards. The NHB stipulation allows all Evolution members and Foley & RVD & Booker T to interefere. HHH wins by hitting Rock with a sledghammer in the middle of the chaos, behind the referee's back.

11.Singles Match for the WWE Championship with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Guest Referee
Eddie Guerrero (C) def. Brock Lesnar.
A simple rematch from No Way Out. Guerrero retains clean. Austin stunners Lesnar, good bye Lesnar.

12.Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit def. Shawn Michales (C).
Kane wins the title from GOD at Summer Slam. He holds it until the Royal Rumble where he loses it against both Triple H and Shawn Michales in a Triple Threat (to Michales) as a result of a distraction from Taker. Benoit wins the Rumble. Benoit makes HBK submit to win.

WrestleMania 32, despite all the injuries I think there's a few things they could've done to make this a lot better than it ended up being.

Keep the pre-show as is.

1. The New Day def. The League of Nations to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships

This would mean that the post match stuff with Stone Cold, HBK and Foley doesn't happen. I thought it was a big mistake to not have New Day defend the titles even though originally they were supposed to, then somehow the match became non-title. It's obvious why they did it but The League of Nations winning did absolutely NOTHING for them and was a waste.

2. Sami Zayn def. Kevin Owens (c) to become the Intercontinental Champion

Yes, Zack Ryder doesn't get his WrestleMania moment, I know I'm cruel but there was no need for a ladder match that year. They had a clear IC title feud right in front of them but opted for a ladder match because, "Hey we did it last year, let's make it tradition!"

3. Baron Corbin wins the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Nothing about this changes.

4. AJ Styles def. Chris Jericho

Because this is how it should have been.

5. Sasha Banks def. Charlotte (c) and Becky Lynch to win the WWE Women's Championship.

This would've ended Charlotte's PPV streak quite early but a lot of people thought they should've gone with this, and I agree.

6. Bray Wyatt def. Brock Lesnar

I'm not sure why this ended up not happening, did Bray get hurt? Or did they just change plans because of all the injuries?... Nonetheless this would've been better than the Ambrose/Lesnar match we got (almost anything would've been), it doesn't have to be a clean victory, it shouldn't be a clean victory but a victory nonetheless.

7. Throw in The Rock's annual useless promo here. Maybe throw in Cena and the other legends as well BUT THIS TIME HE DOESN'T BURY THE WYATTS!!

8. Roman Reigns def. Triple H (c) and Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Yup, a triple threat... and also... not the main event. Ambrose was white hot at this time and the match with Lesnar at Mania and the subsequent pretty bad feud with Jericho had him spiraling downwards for a bit until he won Money in the Bank. He was in the title picture right up until Mania so it's not like this spot is necessarily "out of his league". Also, Triple H vs. Reigns was pretty awful AND WAY WAY TOOOO LONG but Ambrose has great chemistry with both men so hopefully his inclusion could turn it into a pretty good match.

9. The Undertaker def. Shane McMahon inside Hell in a Cell

How was this not the main event? I know they wanted Reigns to have his big WrestleMania moment but it just doesn't work logically. Say Shane won and Triple H was no longer in control of RAW, now you expect him to go out and have a World Championship match? NO! Of course Shane didn't win so it became a non-issue but if you want your product to feel real, you don't have a company altering stipulation that effects someone in a later match greatly go on first, there's no sense behind that. Also cut this match down by at least 7-10 minutes.

I can't stop thinking about past Wrestlemania's that needed to be rebooked, as they either didn't live up to the hype or just didn't deliver. I'm looking at WM 15 here, I would have kept the main event the same but changed most of the undercard as I felt it did not deliver, most of them were changed 2 weeks in advance and the tag title match only last like 4 minutes which was a complete waste. Going into Mania you had Billy Gunn as IC champ and Road Dogg as Hardcore champ then all of a sudden they swapped roles which is fine BUT I would have added them to the tag title match, my rebooked version would be. I felt that during this time it should have been a huge show, they had such a packed roster tbh.

Pre-Show
1) Jacqueline (with Terri Runnels) Vs Ivory.
Singles Match. Stays the same.

2) Battle Royal Match to determine #1 contenders to the WWF Tag Team Titles.
I would keep this the same except have it as whoever wins the match both members of the same team get a shot at the titles the next night on Raw. I would have Animal & Hawk as the survivors eliminating Bradshaw to win the match.

Main Card.
1) Big Bossman (C) Vs Hardcore Holly Vs Al Snow
Wwf Hardcore Title Triple Threat Match. This is a nice opener for the PPV, I would keep the title on Bossman here without dropping it to anyone on the way to Mania. I took out Billy Gunn and put Bossman in there instead, everything goes smoothly until Mideon comes through the crowd causing a distraction and Hardcore Holly is able to pick up the victory without Bossman being pinned.

2) Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett (C) (with Debra) Vs The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) Vs Edge & Christian Vs The Hardy Boys (Jeff & Matt).
Wwf Tag Team Title Four Corner Elimination Match. I think this match would have gone down well tbh, you have two up and coming tag teams as well as an established tag team, The Hardys are eliminated first by Edge & Christian then Edge is eliminated by the NAO leaving it down to two teams, finally Hart scores the victory and retain the titles, the champs drop the titles at the next ppv to Kane & X-Pac.

3) Mankind Vs Vince McMahon.
Street Fight Singles Match to become Special guest referee in the main event. I would have this match take place with Mankind getting the upper hand and gets the victory then Paul Wight makes his long awaited debut coming through the crowd attacking Mankind hitting him with not one but two choke slams through a table and chairs, sending Mankind to the hospital and McMahon takes his place in the main event match.

4) Val Venis (C) Vs Goldust (with The Blue Meanie & Ryan Shamrock) Vs The Godfather Vs Test.
Wwf Intercontinental Title Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. I would have Venis keep the title from Valentines Day Massacre up till WM dropping the title to Godfather giving him a WM moment in front of the Philadelphia crowd, its an elimination match as Test is eliminated first then Goldust is eliminated due to miscommunication from Ryan Shamrock, finally Godfather gets the win and the title.

5) Kane (with Chyna) Vs Triple HHH.
Singles Match. Stays the same I enjoyed the match and the outcome.

6) Wwf Women's Title Battle Royal Match.
I would have this on the card with Sable eliminating Tori last with help from Nicole Bass to win the match.

7) Shane McMahon (C) (with Test) Vs X-Pac.
Wwf European Title Match. I would keep this the same also with the same outcome.

8) The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) Vs Ken Shamrock.
Hell in a Cell Match. I would replace Bossman with Shamrock, I feel this match would have delivered much better with Shamrock being a former cage fighter, he puts up a valiant effort only to lose to not one but two choke slams.

9) The Rock (C) Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Wwf Title Match with Vince McMahon as Special Guest Referee. The main event stays the same and I would still have Michael's come out with another ref, half way through the match, I would have Vince come back out to count the pinfall only for Mankind to come back out take out McMahon and count the final pinfall on The Rock, giving Austin the win and setting up a Triple Threat match for next month's Backlash.

Afterwards, I would have Big Show go through the majority of the roster being built as a human wrecking ball. I would have the corporation turn on Rock just like they did after Backlash. I would have Billy Gunn take on HHH at Backlash, I think Gunn would hold his own as a singles guy with Kane & X-Pac will take the titles off Jarrett & Hart at Backlash.

Wrestlemania XV
Heat: I'll keep the battle royal. That was a cool concept. Matt and Jeff hardy win the battle royal

PPV:
Tag Titles: Owen and Jeff (c) vs The Hardyz
Hardyz were still months away from their push. At least we have an actual tag team challenging for the titles. This would be a pretty good match. Jeff/Owen keep the titles

Val Venis vs Goldust

Hardcore title: Al Snow (c) vs Roadogg
Snow keeps the title. This match makes more sense then randomly switching the outlaws into each other's feuds.

Hardcore Holly vs Big Bossman

Intercontinental Title: Ken Shamrock (c) vs Billy Gunn. They had a decent feud going, I thought they worked well together. Gunn takes the title

Big Show vs Kane big man match For the show

Sable vs Tori everything stays the same

European Championship Triple H (c) vs X-Pac. The blow off to DX breaking up. Triple H keeps the belt with interference from Chyna. X Pac takes the belt next month.

Hell in a Cell: Undertaker vs Mankind. Great feud that never got a mania match. The Original match was great but was really only 2 spots. I think could have been a decent match here.

The Rock (c) vs Steve Austin. Everything is the same. McMahon announces during the show he's the ref. Michaels comes out with his own ref. Same finish.

WrestleMania XXVI:

WrestleMania 24:

Dark: 24 Man Over The Top Rope Tag Team Battle Royal for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly (C) won by last eliminating Snitzky and The Great Khali.

1.Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Matt Hardy def. MVP (C).
Same feud. Have the match a month ealier.

2.Belfast Brawl for the ECW Championship
John Bradshaw Layfield def. Finlay (C)
Finlay will capture the ECW Title in December, finally becoming a world champion. He and JBL have the same feud. JBL wins the title here and holds it at least until Summer Slam, giving ECW a legit Heel Brawler Champion.

3.Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Cm Punk def. Shelton Benjamin & John Morrison & Carlito & Mark Henry & Kane & Kofi Kingston & Santino Marrela.
Changed a few of the participants. Punk still wins.

4.No Holds Barred Match
Triple H def. Mr. Kennedy
As it was planned to happen..

5.Fatal 4 Way Match for the WWE Women's Championship with Snoop Dogg as the Special Guest Referee
Beth Pheonix (C) def. Mickie James, Melina and Maria.
Have a real Women's title match for WrestleMania. Snoop is still involved - same kiss for entertainement only. Beth retains by pinning Maria, after Mickie did everything she could to win - this builds up the Mickie vs Beth match for later down the road.

6.Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Umaga (C) def. The Big Show.
Umaga needs a big win after his lost to Cena (I will have him lose clean to him only once). He gets it here over Big Show.

7.Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena def. Randy Orton (C) and Batista
The three young lions of the new era colliding. Cena wins after a hard fought battle - in my world the buildup will be even better, as Orton retained over Cena at WM 23. Batista then is announced as a part of a trade between Raw and SmackDown heading into the Royal Rumble. Batista wins a No.1 Contenders match at No Way Out, meanwhile Cena vs Orton is the same, creating a triple threat match.

8.No Disqualification Match
Floyd "Money" Mayweather def. Chris Jericho
Cocky Jericho vs Mayweather. It will be a great story, at least better than Giant vs Floyd with Floyd killing the giant.

9.Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
The Undertaker def. Edge (C)
Same.

10.Career vs Career Match
Shawn Michales def. Ric Flair.

WrestleMania 21

Dark: 21 Man WrestleMania Over The Top Rope Battle Royal to earn an Intercontinental or United States Championship Shot
Chris Masters won by last eliminating The Hurricane.

1.Singles Match
Rey Mysterio def. Eddie Guerrero
Same

2.Seven Man Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Edge def. Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Christian, Kane, Shelton Benjamin and Booker T.
Same just add Booker. He deserved a mania match.

3.Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
The Big Show def. Carlito (C) (w\Akebono).
This will be a fun feud. Carlito spitted in the face of the wrong guy. Carlito tries to hire wrestlers to injure Show before Mania, but it ends up with Carlito alone in his corner. The match ends with Carlito biting the apple, and when he's about to spit on Big Show, Show KO's him for the victory. If you still want to get that big crap Akebono involved, have him be a hired-gun for Carlito.

*** Carlito remains in the ring, and we have the Carlito, Austin and Piper segment ***

4.Singles Match
The Undertaker def. Randy Orton
Same.

5.Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship
Trish Stratus (C) def. Torrie Wilson (w\Lita)
I think having Wilson being chose by Lita would have given a much more compeling story, but still a bad match. It sucks that Lita was injured.

6.Singles Match
Kurt Angle def. Shawn Michales
Same.

7.Tag Team Match
Hulk Hogan and Eugene def. Muhammad Hassan and Daivari.
Have the segment become an impromto tag match. Hogan pins Daivari and celebrates with Eugene.

8.Singles Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena def. John Bradshaw Layfield (C).
Same.

9.Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Batista def. Triple H (C) (w\Ric Flair).
Same.

9- WWE Championship (Title vs Career) (if Shawn Michaels loses he must retire)- Triple H (c) vs Shawn Michaels- Winner: Still WWE Champion Triple H; Shawn must retire

Id rebook Wrestlemania 27
I did not ignore the champions going into the event or Del Rio winning the rumble.

Also includes match order:
1)Sheamus (c) v Daniel Bryan, for the US championship, this would have been an excellent opening match. It's ashame they never had a real match on the card.
2)Jerry Lawler v Michael Cole, Austin special guest referee, booking spent alot of time on this feud. Make it a short match, have Lawler win and don't drag on the feud anymore
3) Cody Rhodes v Rey Mysterio, I personally liked this match
4)Wade Barrett (c) v Ezekial Jackson for IC title, The Corre was wasted at this Wrestlemania with the tag match they were in
5)The Miz (c) v John Morrison v Alberto Del Rio v Randy Orton for WWE title
6)Triple H v CM Punk, if Punk starts anti establishment character earlier in the year could have match at WM
7)Edge(c) v Christian for WHC, be the perfect final match for Edge
8) Undertaker v John Cena with Rock as special guest ref, perfect time for this match

WrestleMania XXI (31) (2015)

Pre-Show- WWE Tag Team Championship- Kidd & Cesaro w/Natalya vs The Usos (c) w/Naomi- Winners: New WWE Tag Team Champions Kidd & Cesaro

Brother vs Brother- Goldust vs Stardust (Winner: Stardust)

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal- Ryback wins last eliminating The Big Show; re-creating a Hogan/Andre type feel for the final 2 with Ryback Shell Shocking Big Show and then throwing him over to win it all

WWE Divas Championship- Fatal 4-Way- AJ Lee (c) vs Paige vs Nikki Bella vs Brie Bella- Winner: New WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella; Nikki pins her sister Brie

Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins w/J & J Security vs Randy Orton- Winner: Randy Orton; match stays the same especially with the RKO in mid-air spot

WWE Intercontinental Championship (Ladder Match)- Dean Ambrose vs Bad News Barrett (c) vs Dolph Ziggler vs Luke Harper vs R-Truth vs The Miz vs Damien Mizdow- Winner: New WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler; Ziggler climbs the ladder to win the title; Ziggler had all that momentum so he definitely needed a WrestleMania moment

WWE United States Championship- Rusev (c) w/Lana vs John Cena (Special Guest Enforcer: Hulk Hogan)- Winner: New WWE United States Champion John Cena; Cena ends Rusev's undefeated streak to become champion but also think about adding Hogan into the mix in this feud

Grudge Match- Roman Reigns vs Triple H (match happens 1 year earlier; Reigns doesn't win the Royal Rumble Match; The plan a few months back before Mania 31 was to do Reigns vs. Triple H at SummerSlam, and then at Night of Champions. Obviously, neither one happened. Now, since Reigns was injured I would have him come back and instantly target Rollins, who he was supposed to face at Night of Champions. They would then have a one on one match at the Rumble, which roman would win. In a role reversal at Fastlane, I would have the same main event. Except this time, it would be Daniel Bryan successfully defending his WrestleMania title shot against Roman Reigns. The next night Roman is interrupted by the Authority, and snaps, spearing Triple H, and setting up our angle here. Fairly simple build form there. The evil boss trying to keep the young lion from taking the spotlight away from The Game. That’s all it needs to be. After about a 20 minute brawl, Reigns would get a Superman punch an a Spear, as he would improve to 3-0 at WrestleMania.

Bray Wyatt vs Sting- Winner: Bray Wyatt (a win like this elevates Bray; it actually legitimizes him as a top guy and the promos leading up to this match the mind games the supernatural factor being involved here it would have been perfect)

WWE World Heavyweight Championship- Brock Lesnar (c) w/Paul Heyman vs Daniel Bryan (2015 Royal Rumble Match winner); Winner: New WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins; Rollins still has his cash-in but he cashes in his briefcase during the match but pins Bryan and not Lesnar by Curb Stomping both Bryan and Lesnar but throws Lesnar out of the ring and pins Bryan

11.The Undertaker def. John Cena

My first ever Wrestlemania!!!! It was good, had some very good matches but large parts were carried by Monsoon and Heenan as this event was some of their finest work. My booking is much better in my opinion.

Wrestlemania 8

SINGLES MATCH - Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty
This would have been my opener. Marty had gone through the barber shop window previously so this feud was red hot.

SINGLES MATCH - Tatanka vs British Bulldog
Tatanka was building momentum as undefeated so having him face off against another face the calibre of The British Bulldog. Face vs face matches were fairly rare during these days so it would have being unique.

SINGLES MATCH - The Undertaker vs Papa Shango
I cannot remember these two ever having a proper feud but I think WWF missed a trick! Both were made for each other and the Funeral Parlour segments would have been fantastic.

TAG TITLE - Money Inc (c) vs Natural Disasters vs Legion of Doom vs The Beverley Brothers
I would have made this a 4 way elimination match. Two heel teams and two face teams. LOD came out and did an interview. Should have been on the card.

IC TITLE - Roddy Piper (c) vs Bret Hart
The only match I would keep. This was a classic that really started to give Bret momentum.

SINGLES MATCH - Randy Savage vs Jake Roberts
Another feud with a good story. Savage got bitten and they feuded up to the Rumble with the pay off at a Saturday Night Main Event. I think this feud and match was Mania worthy.

OPEN CHALLENGE - Sid Justice vs The Ultimate Warrior
Sid was a big scary dude who was screwed out of the Rumble and the title. It was bogus! He could have issued an open challenge which would have paved the way for a Warrior return and a quick squash.

BATTLE ROYAL - 20 men
A filler to get folk on the card and give the audience a rest before the main event. Big Boss Man, Sgt Slaughter, Jim Duggan, El Matador, Virgil, Owen Hart, Jimmy Snuka, Mountie, Barbarian, Warlord, Bezerker, Repo Man, Skinner, Rick Martel, Bushwackers, Nasty Boys.

WWE TITLE - Ric Flair (c) vs Hulk Hogan
The match that never happened. Vince McMahon of today would have bumped their heads together and demanded it happened. Sadly egos got in the way and we missed a golden opportunity.

Wrestlemania 9:
This is the official start of the new generation. Past stars Hogan, Savage, and Perfect put over the future of the company: Bret, Shawn, and Yoko.

IC Title Shawn Michaels (c) vs Mr Perfect
Shawn keeps the title. Give them 25 minutes and really showcase Shawn. This solidifies Shawn as the new top upper mid card heel.

Lex Luger vs Tito Santana
Luger Squash

Tatanka vs Doink
Tatanka gets the win. Sets up his push to the ic title (over Shawn at Summerslam, should ends the undefeated streak winning the ic title back at the rumble)

Tag Titles: Steiners (c) vs Money Inc
Money inc takes the titles back

Bob Backlund vs Razor Ramon
The match should be a little longer and Backlund should take the razors edge

Hulk Hogan vs Yokozuna
Yoko goes over clean

Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez
Same match. I'm fine with this being the Taker match. Giant Gonzales had the look and was a good mini feud for Taker.

WWF Championship Bret Hart (c) vs Randy Savage
Savage wins the rumble. It starts as a respect feud. They tag on raw on night and start having problems. Savage goes tweener a month leading into mania. Give them 30 minutes. Bret wins with the sharpshooter. Savage raises his hand and hands him the title afterwards.

I'm going to try WrestleMania 4. I would book this event in the Philadelphia Spectrum.

Ted Dibiase (c) vs Randy Savage- World Title Bout. After Andre gives Ted the belt I would of gone all out with the Million Dollar Man character. I would of had him buy the best lawyers and maybe work an angle where he bribes some WWF officials in order for the decision to stand recognizing him as WWF Champion.

Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant- Steel Cage

Honkytonk Man (c) vs Bam Bam Bigelow- IC Title

Strike Force (c) vs Demolition- Tag Title Bout

Jake The Snake vs Outlaw Ron Bass- I like this match up because being the tough cowboy he is, Bass wouldn't be afraid of snakes.

Butch Reed/One Man Gang vs Don Muraco/Hacksaw Duggan- Fun match with a Mid-South feel to it.

Ultimate Warrior vs Hercules

Brutus Beefcake vs Greg Valentine-nice undercard grudge match

Islanders vs British Bulldogs- I just think this works better as a standard tag match.

Ricky Steamboat vs Harley Race- A gem of a match

Ken Patera vs Rick Rude- Patera has history with Heenan so he gets the new muscle.

Battle Royal- Same ending with Bad News Brown winning

Bret Hart vs Hulk Hogan for the title was the planned main event. With a rematch scheduled for Summerslam 93.

It's easy to rebook the early manias how we'd like to have seen it.. not so easy at the time... We have years of hindsight as to what certain people became or didn't... Vince didn't have that then - often he had to go with who was hot at the time or people to make them look good.

Mania 2 is a classic example... Bundy sucked as an opponent and the match didn't do great... but what it did do was give Hogan a chance to... for the first time, face a behemoth and see if it could potentially work with Andre. Likewise, at 4 it would have been easy to let Hogan/Andre be outside the tournament, and arguably better in a cage... but then you needed more people of quality in the tourney and they were already filling it with guys who'd been in the WWF less than a year after their first big "oil-change" of talent in 87. They didn't know Bam Bam could carry an NFL star to a Mania main event... or Rick Rude would be the best heel of a generation or that DiBiase or Jake, good as he was would never reach the heights they planned for him cos of their backstage antics...

The way to fix that tourney is to perhaps bring Bob Backlund or if he could remotely go at that point, Bruno in to it... the "ageing star" going for glory would have been a good wrinkle for the tourney, only for DiBiase to steal his thunder in the semi.

The thing I look most sadly on is how much talent WASN'T ever at a Mania in their prime... The Rock N' Rolls/Midnights/Cornette... Harley a year or two earlier than he was or The Horsemen as a unit. Imagine how Mania 5 could have looked if they'd managed to get Flair and kept Steamboat...

If we're talking rebooking Mania 4 and 5, the first thing that jumps out at me is changing the venue. Going from the Silverdome to what felt like an American Legion hall...there was no big show feeling to these two. The feel of Mania 3, 6, 8--that made the cards even better than they were, in my opinion.

I am glad you FINALLY didn't (incorrectly) mention the "unbalanced" Mania 4 bracket. But, to say Hogan and Andre not being involved in the tournament would in ANY WAY improve it is preposterous. The double elimination--which people weren't expecting--brought a feeling of "Whoa! A brand new champ will be crowned!" Having them out of it from the start takes that surprise, and consequent rush of possibilities, away. DiBiase should have won, in my opinion; but, regardless, there are a lot of ways to go with him winning or losing. I've heard people say Steamboat should have beaten Valentine to set up Steamboat/Savage II. This is a terrible idea. With Savage being chosen as the face to carry the torch, you cannot put him against a super babyface Steamboat earlier in the night. Even with some cliché, overdone handshake/hug endorsement at the end, it takes some of the pop away from Savage ultimately winning later, if hours earlier half of the place was rooting for him to lose to the Dragon. Not to mention, again, going from their original classic in the dome to a time-crunched sequel in this puny convention hall...just a terrible, terrible idea to have the sequel then and there.

Also, Bigelow was new and on fire...honestly no pun intended. To say we didn't yet know he coud carry LT through a Mania main event is laughable. Who cares what he did in 1995?? In 1988, he just had a VERY solid showing at Survivor Series and had recently won a big battle royal. He had momentum and was a believable contender in that tournament. I think you contradict your own hindsight point.

Back then, you did not need a bulletproof tournament bracket to make the whole thing believable. People wanted to see their favorites compete and have a shot at the title. There was no forum to nitpick every opening round matchup. There were a ton of possible matchups later in the night given this format and the excitement and curiosity made it special. Not the length or quality of the matches. Bruno Sammartino in a 5-6 minute match would be an improvement? Come on, man. Ignoring hindsight is one thing, but dismissing history is another.

The venue was fine... Trump did Vince a big favor, it allowed a 2 year window to plan, change the talent out and prepare for other headliners than Hogan without that big stadium to fill. It helped Warrior and Savage develop so that they could be big deals when the Skydome and as originally planned the LA Coliseum for 7...

Not contradicted myself at all and I still hate that Hogan/Andre's Bye forced byes and double eliminations elsewhere... it's a 16 or 8 man that works best in my view...not 14. As I've said before, no reason they couldn't have put Herc and Warrior in there to make it the 16...but hey, we disagree on it.

Bigelow, Gang, Rude and DiBiase were all on fire for a debut year when compared to other groups of talents who all came in at the same time.

That 87 class is most like the 2002 OVW one in terms of potential - all of the 2002 group did well within 3 years because the template had been set... it hadn't in 87... there was no "conveyor" for talent push as there was post Warrior/Bret/Shawn.

Hogan was the guy, they needed another so they went with Savage, they just could have gotten there a better way rather than throwing new talents all into the tourney and "wasting them".

Vince couldn't see it in Bigelow at the time...so he didn't get the push. The guy who headlined with LT had spent years in Japan, tagged with Vader and was seasoned. Much as we say now "Bam Bam should have been used better" he was used as was appropriate to Vince at the time for his experience level.
Had he gotten that push early, then the team with Vader doesn't happen, Japan doesn't and he doesn't grow into that quality worker... he could have been another Warrior and died on his ass career-wise when he hit the top rung..

The only one who did get "pushed" from the tourney was DiBiase, who had been in the WWF previously - although he left abruptly as North Amerircan Champ... but in reality only he, Rude & much later Bigelow ever did anything of note after that tourney... It killed One Man Gang enough they had to create Akeem... For all the good the Battle Royale win did Bad News Brown, you could have said put he and Bret into a match in the tourney instead...as that was supposed to be Bret's solo debut. He'd have been a familiar face... still could have lost "unfairly" but been off to the races career wise...

The venue was the least of the problems with the show... how it was booked, who was in the tourney and ultimately our hindsight are the biggest problems with it. At the time, it did its job adequately enough

How--HOW?!?!--can you still not see your error with Hulk/Andre "forcing" byes and double eliminations?? This isn't us disagreeing. This is you being wrong for YEARS, despite being corrected. Obviously, DiBiase gets a bye because he was to face the winner. But OMG and Rude/Snake, those were time-saving measures. They were not NEEDED because of the "unbalanced" tournament. If Hulk beat someone in Round 1 and Andre beat someone in Round 1 (making it the 16-man tourney you apparently need) the result is the same!!!! They face each other in Round 2. Their double DQ had NOTHING to do with balancing the brackets. It is absolutely mind-boggling that you can't understand this.

I would address your other points, but honestly, your lack of understanding on such an easy topic stops me from wanting to discuss anything else with you. Tell me how the Hogan/Andre creative result affects anything other than the DiBiase bye to the finals. You can argue it was a bad idea creatively, but the balanced brackets argument is nonsensical and the fact that you can't see it makes me think there is plenty else you don't understand. It's a shame because we seem to be from the same era, but good God how can you still not grasp such an easy thing?
