The man of a thousand rest holds.
I tend to think this years event will become the record holder for the lowest buyrates ever. No, I don't think it will be because "It sucks.", overall, it has a solid card, nothing special, but solid. And no, it won't be because it comes off as predictable and routine. It is very simple, the culprit for this possible massive failure is the economic crisis. With crowds of people out of work, and the prospect for a brighter future dwindling, I would wager that the masses have other things on their minds other than Wrestlemania. Perhaps this is expected by the WWE, thus they didn't spring for a Hogan or Steve Austin match, which might be a bit costly for them, they are playing it safe and I wouldn't blame them. This will hurt the wrestling business, but in today's economy, they are just part of the whole, every business is hurt. One would wish the US economy could "hulk up" and make the comeback it deserves soon.

In comparison to the previous couple I think it'll be a failure. Not as bad as Mania 13, but bad by todays standards.

It's WrestleMania, but it's not an particularly intresting card. It's full of rematches and the rest of the card just sin't that intresting. Maybe if Mickey Rourke had actually been involved in a match, maybe it would do well. But what match on the card would make people by this show in record numbers? The two world title matches have been done in various forms. Undertaker vs. HBK won't be as good as their matches 11 years ago, Hardy vs. Hardy isn't big enough and the Jericho match is mid card to the extreme.

Add to the fact that people haven't got money to burn, I think it'll be considered a failure.

Yes, I agree it'll probably be a failure, at least in modern terms. I think besides the fact many people are strapped for money, the card itself is nothing overly special, especially the match that I thought was going to be pure gold and a WM moment in the making (the Jericho match)- but, after weeks of amazing promos yet poor-ass booking, it looks like it will become an afterthought. Nothing can save it now, not even a Rourke run-in, at least IMO. Its just become too exhausted, and not fun anymore. I was also really disappointed that bigger legends didn't become involved in it, such as SCSA. Very disappointing, just like WM25's card, and just like its monetary results will be.

Uh yea, this is probably going to be the screaming shits as far as buyrates. In what is an economic downturn, a card like this wont sell big at all. I mean, I wouldnt say its shit. Its just...uninspiring. I think thats a very appropriate word for it. While itll be an OK wrestling show, there isnt really any match that I feel like I absolutely HAVE to see. Certainley doesnt feel like a big Mania card. I doubt with money as tight as it is these days, this lackluster card will sell well at all. This is likely going to be seen as a failure, and the WWE will blame the economy, not the lack of creativity.

In all fairness to the WWE, I've enjoyed the actual build up for the two main events, but these are not Wrestlemania worthy main events at this point in time.

We have seen a billion different incarnations of HHH and Orton, just as we have seen a billion different incarnations of Cena and Edge. Sure, they tried to spice it up by having HHH defend Stephanie, and they added Big Show to Cena and Edge just to add a different dynamic, but at it's heart, these are two matches that we've seen on at least half a dozen PPV's in the past.

It's a message to the WWE that something different should've been done. The usual suspects just aren't that interesting when they continually face each other. In all honesty, WWE should've built up BRAND NEW main event challengers months in advance around the Royal Rumble. I'm not saying throw Kofi Kingston into a main event, but Jericho could've been used instead of wasting his talents against the "legends." Kane could've been used instead of taking up a place in the ladder match. Christian's return could've been pushed harder and he could've faced Edge. There were other options. But, when in doubt, WWE seems to go with the same guys over and over again so the main event picture gets ridiculously stale on both brands. And it's just harder to look forward to Mania knowing that the two main events offer absolutely nothing new.

How would you define failure? People not purchasing the tickets and the PPV view? In that respect I still wouldn't say it will be a failure. Perhaps not the highest selling Pay per view in WWE history but make no mistake they will still be making a hefty profit from the event. In terms of the event itself with regards to the matches, I still think that it will be worth viewing for sure. Perhaps it could have been better and maybe had a little bit better build up, Overall though, I think it will be a success both financially and in terms of wrestling. Fingers Crossed

Meh, I think it will be down from last year, but I don't think by all that much. I know of many people that will be ordering Wrestlemania for the first time, and considering it's 25, you gotta think people are going to tune in for a nostalgic effect. Taker-Shawn will sell it...Cena will sell it...heck, I asked a little kid what he was looking forward to most aside from the Cena match, and he said he was excited about Trips/Orton. I was very surprised by this, as neither of these two seem to be popular with the younger crowd. Oh, Mysterio will sell it as well...a luxury not had in the last few years. I think it will shock people as to how good it will be. I'm not expecting it to be the best Wrestlemania of all-time...but it will surely be better than Wrestlemania IX and just maybe better than some of the middle-of-the-road Manias.

I have to respectfully disagree. THis years wrestlemainia card just doesn't seem to intrigue me as much as the other PPVs trhis year. Consider the fact that its full of a bunch or rematches and poorly hyped grudge matches. combine that with the lack of major publicity (compared to recent PPVs and past Manias) and the economy and you have a recipe for disaster. I think this will come off as the worst wrestlemania yet. In terms of buys, Ticket sales, and overall quality. WWE shouldve focused more on the event and waitted till after Mania to push John Cenas new suck fest (12 rounds)

Yeah I think a lot of us agree that the WWE could have promoted Wrestlemania a bit more instead of 12 rounds, a distinctly average movie imo. However, I think once the event starts and the music get's playing and the action starts rolling people will realize why they love this event.

Well i think so it will be the lowest selling Wm EVER! Firstly, the card is all rematches of previous PPV's and the feud are nothing interesting. How many times have we seen HHH vs Orton? In fact we saw them go at it twice in one night at No Mercy 2007. How many times have we seen Edge vs Cena? AT least 5/6 alone in 2006. How many times have we seen JBL vs Rey? About a gazillion times ALONE in 2006. This is the main reason why this PPV will suck in terms of burates.
Another reason is because of the hype. It's the 25th Anniversary of WM and what type of shit hype are we getting? Adverts on sports channel like they do normally for any other PPV. No billboards, no adverts outside sport channels, no nothing.
Third reason is that most of their crowd are childrens which means that they have to ask their parents for $45/£15 and guess what? They will think its the biggest piece of rip-off shit and they will never let their child watch WM because of the price tag.

After watching WWE programming this week, i got to say that The WWE does think that Wrestlemania might be failure this year. When was the last time that going into wrestlemania you had 2 preview shows before the PPV. ECW and Smackdown served more as glorified preview shows this weeks. Sure you had your ocassional matches but do you really think that having The Bellas wrestles each other on ECW and Jeff Hardy vs Ezikiel JAckson on smackdown will sell Wrestlemania. I don't think so. Same think goes with all the video packages that the had during both shows.

Wrestlemania 25 might be the lowest selling wrestlemania of all time and THe WWE knows it, that why they are acting desperate like they are doing right now because they are banking of wrestlemania being a success and if it fails, then they probably will have to change direction again because something just ain't working.

Anybody who thinks that this year's WrestleMania is gonna draw the worst buyrate in WM history is crazy. It might not do 1 million buys like the last 2 years did because there's no Trump or Mayweather this year to attract non-wrestling fans but it will still do a really good number, far more than they were doing in the mid 90's.

I think around 800,000 buys would be a great number this year considering there's no outside attraction like Trump, Mayweather, Hogan, Austin etc, the economy is bad and all the free pay per view streams that are out their now, I don't think it will have a horrible buyrate at all, it's impossible to keep beating the year before, hell, last year they did over a million buys and they were still disappointed that they didn't beat the 07 number.

I will sell big....like always. I know the card ain`t really strong on paper but it`s Wrestlemania and people will still buy it for sure.

It's not going to sell like previous Manias, but it's not going to be shit selling either. It'll have at least twice the best buyrate any other PPV had in 2008, not counting Mania 24, obviously. I hear all this bitching about how we've seen Orton vs HHH so many times...but who really gives a shit? This is the most intense their feud has ever been, and there's the enormous potential for their greatest match ever, and the possibility of Vince turning on HHH to join Legacy. You cannot tell me that doesn't more than make up for this being a repeat. The Triple Threat is blah, but it's the undercard world title match - it doesn't have to be fantastic. Frankly, mentioning Edge and Cena together in the same sentence should be enough to say "Yeah, that's a good match" and put Big Show in there and you've got a fairly exciting undercard title match. It's not going to be anything spectacular but how many times has the undercard world title match really impressed you at Mania? It was the same thing last year - Orton vs HHH vs Cena, and it was good, but not fantastic. Then you had Edge vs Undertaker, which stole the show, much as Orton vs HHH has the potential to do this year. Shawn vs Undertaker has to be the major seller, here - it's been hyped to all hell, it's not been done in over a decade, and it's still going to be great no matter what condition they're in - they've both proven time and time again they can create fantastic matches at their age (see Shawn vs Jericho and Undertaker vs Edge).

As for the undercard, Hardy vs Hardy seems like a pretty solid match to me, as well, as much as everyone complains about it being underhyped...Matt really stepped up the heel game with his promos over the last couple weeks, and Jeff countered well. Frankly, I'm just excited to see the Hardys really have a proper one on one, heel vs face match, with a real feud behind it. The rest of the undercard is fairly decent - a tag team unification match, which is a nice attraction, the IC title being defended between two big upper midcarders, the Jericho match is just going to be old fashioned fun (remember that? Fun?). Everyone shits on this match, but just think how fun it's going to be - all the Legends hit their finishers, Rourke with a knockout punch, and they all celebrate in the ring. It's not going to be a classic, but hell, it's going to be a fun match and the crowd will love it. The same with the Divas battle royal - people will enjoy seeing the old Divas again, and it's just going to be a 6 or 7 minute fun match. MITB is going to be the same old thing it is every year - a reliable spot fest that gets the crowd excited.

So frankly, if you sit down and think about this card, you've got two classics in the making - Shawn Michaels vs the Undertaker, and Triple H vs Randy Orton. They're going to be great. The rest of it is attractive undercard stuff, but it's not as bad as everyone would like to think. It's a good card. The biggest thing dragging it down is the fact that it's not stellar, and it's smack dab in the middle of the worst economic crisis of all time. No, it's not, but that's what a lot of people seem to be buying into nowadays, and will react as such when they encounter a 55 dollar price tag. I think the card is still going to attract a lot of buys, but will lose it in two areas - smarks who can't get their heads out of their asses and get over the fact that some of the matches have been done before, and people who can't/won't spend the money on it during this recession.

I think it will still sell well, but it's doubtful to break a million - the biggest problem is the economic situation.

People will always buy it just in hope of a huge surprise to re-live the old days. The may be investing in false hope, but this year will be helped out with the Stone Cold induction, previous rumors of Hogan, and whispers about the Rock. Even if nothing happens people DO buy it for just this reason, and I think it will be more so this year than the past few.

Past that, it will tank. I personally thought the Triple H/Orton build has been fantastic, but it doesn't help that people can't enjoy Triple H because of his persona backstage. A percentage of just this site has expressed their lack of desire to purchase a WM headlined by a Triple H main event. If you can't even draw in all the fans who get into it more than the average schmoe, you're in trouble.

SO with WWE's biggest show in the history books one has to ask, did the PPV live up to the hype? I want to know your thought and opinions on the years biggest PPV Wrestlemania 25!

Overall in my opinion, I feel bad for people who spent money on this:

I noticed a lot of botched moves tonight..I dont kno if anyone else noticed that

MITB: Great match..Kudos to Sheldon and Kofi: Good start to the night!

Divas match: Well Santino won as predicted..w.e.

HArdys match: Jeff Hardy still a risk taker, but Matt won regardless! Decent match

Jericho Match..thank god rourke didnt wrestle..lord he should've put that hat back on..Jericho is proud of beating three men, where you add their ages is over 100! congrats Y2J..and congrats WWE for making the superstar of the yr fight in his worst match this year!

HBK/Taker: Again, great match..prolly the only PPV quality match! HBK kicking out to the tombstone, the last ride and the chokeslam! Epic to say the least, and the look on Takers face after the 1st tombstone: something I wont forget! Taker won for those who care lol! This isnt the match of the year, but the best match of the night!

Triple Threat: Crowd died after the HBK/Taker match..worst match of the night...however, Cena is a very strong man..but Rock > Cena (see sig loll)

and the Main Event, lop-sided completely...HHH beat the crap outta Orton and squashed him..Orton had no upper hand and no upper edge at all...sigh...

But one thing I liked besides HBK/Taker: Stone Cold's Final Salute! Thanks for the memories Stone Cold! *Salute with beer!*

Overall: 5/10 Disappointing WM!

Best Match goes to Taker/HBK..they brought the house down! Does it match to Hogan/Rock..crowd wise yes, match wise not quite..

Edit: JBL did make history, losing to Rey Mysterio in the shortest and most pathetic match ever..21 seconds WOO!! Since JBL "quit" we could see him back on the announcing side of SD! Reys the champ btw..

I enjoyed most of Wrestlemania untill the last match where Triple H completly buried Randy Orton. Triple just ****ed the WWE over, Not only once again feeding his ego, buired Randy Orton for what was it the 5th or 6th time, he also devalued the Royal Rumble by having the winner of it lose two years in a row and consider the fact he was in the match that the Rumble winner lost two years in a row.

Once the card was finalized I knew that it would be a disaster. HBK and Undertaker was the only match that lived up to the hype (and then some). Hardy vs Hardy was a decent match and so was the Money in the Bank (not the ending though).

The main events were a snoozefest and Triple H just had to squash Orton's momentum yet AGAIN. I could rant all day about how much I hate Triple H and Vince right now. They dropped the ball again. First they ruined Jericho's storyline with that lame handicap match (though Steamboat was awesome) and then concluded the show with a lame match. There could have been a McMahon swerve there, but no, the almighty Triple H just had to win and not let Orton go over. Triple H is nearly 40 and should be retiring while Orton is still in his prime. I'm going to stop ranting about that now...

Cena/Big Show/Edge was also boring, but I knew that match would suck from the beginning considering how much of a joke the entire build up was. I was hoping they would let Edge retain so he could have a decent reign for once, but again Cena had to win, giving Edge another pointless 1 month reign.

HBK/Taker easily stole the show. It went way beyond my expectations. The near falls and the suspense. I have never ever seen a countout so suspenseful , especially since I thought the Undertaker was legit injured after that dive. Shawn skinning the cat into to a Tombstone was one of the best spots ever, and the fact that he kicked out was shocking. It was definitely one of the greatest matches of all time.

Seriously, that shit was a waste of money.

At first I was kinda dissapoitned that CM Punk won instead of Christian or at least MVP, but it was a good match, liek the bit where Christian was on the ladder and he "rebounded".

Hardys match was pretty decent I thought, cool match and the Twist of Fate in the chair was awesome. Jericho vs the Legends was also OK, I'm glad he didn't have to job to them.

HKB/The Undertaker was good, for some reason I thought he was gonna lsoe at one point. Very good match.

Triple threat was good because the Big Show didn't win, not a very good match but it was alright.

Main event sucked dick. Seriously. Orton should have won, or if HHH HAD to win, they could've at least had a good match. Really anti-climactic and no one in the crowd gave a shit when HHH won. He needs to get the message.

santino winning cum on? it should have been used to push one of the current WWE divas

Cm punk... ah dont where there goin with this with him winning it for 2nd time

John Cena, yeh okay they wanted there top star to walk out as champion on the grandest stage of them all

Triple H, Randy should have won im not being biased, but should have cemented his spot at the top.

Legends match, legends were made to look weak, one rourke punch was enought o take out Jericho come on.

7/10, ok could have been better

5/10

Quick overview

MiTB-3/10
-Botchfest.. All the spots continued each other.. the exact same thing, the spots were set up right in front of you, and it wasn't taken seriously with ****eswoggle knocking over 6 grown men. Ridiculous. CM Punk... again????

Diva's Battle Royale-0.5/10
-You seen Santino the whole time, without actual recognition of Santino, or him knocking out Beth. It could have been much funnier.. I didn't laugh after I noticed him standing alone at the beginning.. In addition the camera couldn't have been further away and you seen none of to very little of: Maryse, Kelly Kelly and (a wasted trip) for Torrie Wilson and Trish Stratus. This was absolutely garbage.

Jericho vs Legends-4.5/10
-I was SURPRISED on how much this didn't complete suck. Match wasn't great, but the action with Steamboat gets credit from me.. Steamboat wrestled better than most of the roster. The ending docked 1.5 points from me. Rourke is better than 3 Hall of Famers??

Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy-6.5/10
-Good spots, all could've been better. Match makes you want more.. best end result to a match because Matt was put over and now we can expect a rematch.

Rey Mysterio vs JBL-5/10
-Funny, funny, funny. Great entrance idea by Rey, funny match, didn't waste time in JBL's entrance as he multi-tasked, then a shocker by JBL.. gets docked because it was that short, but the end mic part took 4-5 minutes?

Undertaker vs HBK-10/10
-GREAT match. Couldn't have asked for more. Thought Taker died when he took the suicide dive.. multiple finishers, kick-outs, drama.. GREAT match, best of the night.

Cena vs Edge v Big Show-6/10
-Stipulation not mentioned before? It's not announced that it's no DQ/Count-out? It's not that by default. Failed there. What saved it was the ending with Cena carrying 700+ lbs on his back.

Randy Orton vs HHH-5.5/10
-Uggghhhhhhhhhhh. I like HHH, and it was the best way he could have won, but I'd rather have the end with HHH putting Orton over with Orton looking cheap, ala typical HHH fashion. The match wasn't bad, the action was decent, entertained by the beginning, but I was a bit disappointed with the ending.

This was so bad, when the best match of the night is two guys who are gonan retire soon you knwo the WWE is going down the shitter. Especially when the next most senior guy buries your future superstars.

I for one thought it was better then WM24 and WM25, I thought that some of the matches that people said were gonna suck were actually very good for example:

Jericho vs. Legends While I thought Snuka looked terrible in this match, Steamboat and Piper looked really good. Steamboat who I havent seen wrestle in a while looked AMAZING for a person of his age

All the other matches lived up to the hype...

How did u like Mania and what was ur favorite match?

...Im sorry I didnt see the other thread on this cuz i was typing, if u want, delete this thread

Simple......it really realy really really reeeeeaaaally left me wanting so much more. not that it was BamBam/Taylor bad...but it was quite a stinker. Besides the Taker/HBK match, everything was stale. Though, I am glad to see Matt Hardy given his torch to run with.
