Question about Ownership

Getting Noticed By Management
Okay I am confused by something and just wanted some clarity.

If I buy a company... then I legally own that company.. I can then turn around and sell what ever artifacts that company has, right?

So if Vince bought WCW /ECW/ etc.. why does he need to wait for another wrestler to stop working for another wrestling organization to make a DVD of him if he already OWNS the library?

Example:.. it is true that Sting or Abdullah the Butcher never wrestled for Vince.. but if he bought the company they worked for, then what exactly is stopping him from making DVD's of what he owns?

Just looking for some clarification.

Thanks

It's easier to promote a wrestler's DVD if that wrestler is on your TV show. Also, advertising the DVD might make people search for what that guy's doing and discover TNA. It's just more efficient to only produce DVDs of contracted guys.

Okay but what about the case of others that are not wrestling anywhere? Like Abdullah the Butcher, Lex Luger, DDP, Nick Bockwinkle, Junk Yard Dog, Rick Rude etc.. They arent in TNA or any other organization..for the most part WWE owns most of their matches. Not sure why they "couldn't" make DVD's of these guys now.

They made a WCW dvd without needing Sting under contract or most of the NWO folks.. or bischoff (The dvd was sold after he left the company)) etc..

Vince makes dvds that he thinks would sell and make him more money. If they made one on Sting then it would pretty much advertise TNA. Those people you mentioned may not have dvds because Vince doesn't think they will sell. Most the fans now are kids and a lot of regular fans these days don't even know some of those guys.

... I'm sick of this myth being perpetuated. Look at the indies. Most fans are not kids. Look at the stats the WWE puts up. Something like 70% are teenagers and adults. Look at TNA. Listen to the pop the Rock got on his comeback. Kids may dominate the merchandise stalls, but they don't dominate the wrestling world. Not yet.

One thing Disturbed was right about is using guys that are in other companies right now. They won't make anything with Jeff Hardy because they are basically promoting someone else's performers.

As for some of the other guys, well, they do have limited time and resources. They aren't going to release DVD's on just anyone. Alot of the guys named earlier would be guys that people may be intrested in seeing, but there are bigger names that they could use and will sell more. Why make a DVD on someone like Bockwinkle when you could make another one on Cena or on the history of ____ match.

They are going to make them on what will help promote the current product the most and genrate the most amount of revenue.

Because no one would buy those DVDs.

And yet, listen to what happens to the crowd when he starts bashing John Cena. Those same fans who popped for Rock suddenly start to say, "hey wait a minute, now you're bashing OUR guy".

It's an audible difference you can hear, and I noticed it right away on Raw. Some guy in one of the Raw threads was at the arena and mentioned it. You can even hear some boos.

Even if the wrestling audience has teenagers, those kids may not know what the Rock was. We're talking 11 years ago when Rock and Triple H were leading the WWE. A 16 year old teenager would have been 5.

The audience is different now than it was in the Attitude Era, and no one can deny that.

Exactly. There's a video I saw, I'll post it if I can find it, but it shows the moment when Rock starts cutting his promo on Cena a section of the crowd starts to boo him. The camera was RIGHT on him. To add on to that, if you look at a lot of the kids when his music hit, they cheered because someone older around them was cheering. They had no idea who The Rock was.

I don't deny that kids make up a sizeable segment of the WWE and wrestling fans and that there are a lot of Cena die-hard among both kids and teenagers. I just deny that the kids are the majority like a lot of people seem to cry out. Give it a year or two and there will be a lot more kids in the arena in comparison to teenagers and adults. 5 years after that, the tide will shift back to teenagers, unless the UFC manages to build itself securely among them. Then who knows, the WWE might stay locked into the kids.
