The Occupy Wall Street movement begins and begets a larger, more general, Occupy stuff movement, in which several people made signs and typically got in the way.
In space news, the Space Shuttle program comes to an end, whilst the Mars Rover Curiosity is launched toward the Red Planet.
And pretty much the whole world admits that it's skint.
2011 saw the deaths of actors Pete Postlethwaite and Michael Gough, actress Elizabeth Taylor, musician Gerry Rafferty, top face 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, top heels Osama Bin Laden, Kim Jong-Il, and Colonel Gadaffi, Apple guy Steve Jobs, and former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier.
