Rep is well and good, but grey rep is the same as green. Its simply someones way of letting you know they appreciated your post. You were in that position once, we all were. Some of my favorite rep has come from people who have left me really nice comments with grey rep.. One told me once, "I know my rep isnt worth anything, but I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed reading what you had to say." I repped them every day I was on here for a month.
I was here the day the guy JGlass referenced made a similar comment as you. Not only did it bring him alot of heat, it cost him a good deal of rep too. Post because you enjoy it, and the rep you want will come. Appreciate the people who grey rep you, because someday they'll be able to green rep you.
