Pornography

At the moment, pornographic material showing adults over the age of 16 or 18 (depending on which country) is legal. Child pornography is entirely illegal at the moment, and it would be very hard indeed to argue that it be legalised.

Many people find a use out of pornography, whether it be videos bought, the web, top shelf magazines, or simply Page 3. Everyone knows where to find pornography if they wanted to, yet I think it's also easy to avoid.

So, should pornography be banned for moral, religious, feminist or crime prevention reasons?

Personally I say no. I don't know anyone that gets offended by it even though we are assured there are many. Pornography, as long as both adults know they are being filmed/taken photos of, and consent to all the uses of it, is not a crime. There's nothing wrong with people watching it or buying it.

As for the feminists I depsise, who say it's only "objectifying women", I disagree. If a woman wants to be known for her body then let her be. Some feminists are supposedly all for womens rights, yet then try and stop them being involved in pornography. If they want to be, it's up to them. It's the same as simply being known for your intelligence; should we stop that too?

I'm not a fan of porn, but if someone wants to do it, they should be able to. If someone wants to use it to make money, then so be it. It's their choice. As for the feminists, there's no need for them to have to claim that it's objectifying women. It's not like the men aren't on screen also, but it is typically the women that get called out for doing porn. Men are hardly innocent in this area. Porn shouldn't be banned, as even if it is, it's going to be made anyway in one form or another. If someone wants to do something like that on film or whatever, let them. It's their lives not everyone else's, so who are we to tell them how to live their lives?

Pornography is easy to avoid. The closest most people come to it is seeing it on the top shelf of the local newsagents. It's really easy to not look up there. Same with the internet. On occasion you might fall into some. But unless you make a conscious effort to look for it, it can easily be kept out of your life. Same with most things. If you don't like it then ignore it. I can understand certain peoples grievance with Page 3 girls. They're harder to avoid. But if you are buying those papers your not really intrested in the news anyway.

Its sort of a conversation that comes down to a Moral Vs Legal/ rights issue, somehwat like the abortion issue, and various others. Its someones legal right to do whatever they wish with their body, and if this sick terrible thing is what they wish to do, than its their righ, so no, you cant illegalize it. Morally, would I prefer it to be cleansed from the face of the earth?? Of course. But there isnt really any manner in which you can justify making it illegal. And everyone else is right. Its fairly easy to avoid things of that nature, as I do daily.

I'm in agreement. I think, however, porn should be regulated. Any porn stars should be tested for STDs and such, and it shouldn't be so damned easy for kids to access it on the net.

But, if two adults want to film themselves having sex, fine, who cares?

Also, any talk of regulation is bullshit. There is one thing, one thing only that truly belongs to us. Our bodies. We should be able to do whatever we wish with them, and the Government can rot in a part of hell even Satan doesn't have access to.

And, I love the argument that it demeans women. Um, what about men? I would be horribly embarrassed and ashamed if I were suddenly naked in public, and the public wouldn't be too damned happy either, let me tell you! ;)

Guys in pornos are there naked to the world with millions of people seeing them. The girl is a ****? Yeah, the guy is a ****, too. There's nothing wrong with being a ****, male or female.

Just remember, folks. The guy is just as naked, just as exposed. Feminists and male chauvinists are both assholes.

It would be impossible to make porn illegal. There are just so many options available as to where it can be obtained that it would be ridiculous to even bother trying. That being said, I think some porn is by its nature harmful, in that a level of what you see gets imbedded in there, and some people may begin to think that certain aspects of sex are normal, when in actual fact they maybe borderline illegal.

Other issue I have with porn is addiction. The porn itself isn't addictive in general, it's the feelings of pleasure are, and it can start a cycle of addiction in people with addictive personalities.
That being said, it is a personal choice, and can be avoided. And Page 3 is the whole reason The Sun is the top selling newspaper in Britain...it's certainly not for it's high class journalism and grasp of current issues.
