PC Question

Alex

King Of The Wasteland
So I've had my PC for about 6 years. It's still pretty good. The only thing is it's starting to lag when I do some editing on photoshop or video editing. Also when I go on the web.

A friend said I either needed more RAM, a new graphics card or both. Anybody got any suggestions?

Found out I do need extra RAM and a new graphics card.

Anybody know any good graphics cards?

Yeah mostly creative stuff

Only really play emulators on my PC. PS2 stuff and before

Gotcha. When it comes to photo and video editing, as well as emulators, the CPU is the work horse for all that. The GPU primarily focuses on the 3D rendering.
I recommend the Nvidia GTX 1060- 3GB variation. Best bang for your buck. Currently $199.99 on Newegg.

First of all, what are your specs because "My PC was good 6 years ago" is like saying you got PS2 now while you today have new PS4 who gets to do 4k resolutions.

Second of all, for editing you should get way better graphics. Something along GTX 1070 or 1060(6gb not 3gb version because its not same card at all, trust me). Would reccomend some AMD RX as cheaper variant(570 or 580) but all cryptocurrency miners are using it right now so its ludacris to buy it for cheap or even get it at all.

Yeah good luck getting a good card at MSRP right now. Anything good has skyrocketed due to miners as Kodo said. Be patient when looking for a new card.

Never heard of Cryptocurrancy Mining before. Looked it up, now I feel like I'm living in Blade Runner for god sakes. What the hell is going on in this world?

Wow, Sandy Bridge. Takes me back.
A CPU upgrade probably wouldn't hurt either, if you're willing to pay for it. My 7700k ran me $295. If you're looking cheap, go for the latest Pentium processor or an i3. The issue, though, is that you'll have to upgrade the mobo too.
8gb Ram would be fine, 16gb would be great. Speed doesn't matter too much with it, at least not compared to the quantity of ram.
I stick to my guns on the GTX 1060 3gb. As prior mentioned, dataminers have run up graphics card prices, so it's the best bang for your buck. If you're willing to Shell out a bit more for the 6gb variation or the 1070, that's up to you.
It all boils down to if you wanna just upgrade the RAM and GPU, and leave it at that, or the rig entirely.
