I fucking love this. I marked out so hard when Paul motherfucking Heyman came out last night. It's not because I'm some huge fan -- he is indeed overrated -- but because it was a surprise, and a very welcome one at that. Brock Lesnar's biggest weakness is on the mic. Yes, he can play his character very well and I suppose he's passable, but if the WWE wants the fans to take Brock Lesnar seriously as a potential danger to John Cena's seat as face of the company, he needs to be more complete. This is where Paul E. comes into play -- he's a substitute for the mic skills that Brock Lesnar doesn't have. Heyman's the perfect fit, as he's been here before with Lesnar, but he's also a damn good character, and it looks like he'll be around until Summerslam, according to all the reports I've seen. Not only does Heyman give WWE flexibility with Lesnar's appearances, but he provides for some damn good entertainment himself. I'm very excited to have him back.
This is probably the smartest solution WWE could have put in place and Heyman's the perfect man for the job, but I want to focus on why. Heyman's a great mic man, but he's not a cookie cutter type of guy, by any stretch of the imagination. Heyman is a bright guy and -- love him or hate him -- he understands how to get people over. ECW never would have worked, without Paul Heyman. Heyman understood how to hide the drawbacks of his talent and how to make them look like a million bucks; Heyman's on pace to make Lesnar look golden here. Heyman's passion on the mic is second to none, his love for the business shines through, and his wit is always evident. His promo style makes you believe what he's saying. Couple that with the most legitimate "ass kicker" in the business today, and you have a formula for great success. WWE has the chance to make Brock Lesnar everything he can be -- they can capitalize BIG.
Happy to have Paul back, no doubt.
