Oscar Predictions Contest

Cena's Little Helper

Mid-Card Championship Winner
All right, with the Oscars right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to have a predictions contest for the 7 following categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Animated Feature. I am going to list the nominees for each category, and all you have to do is copy and paste this list and bold the nominee that you believe will win in each category. For every correct prediction, you will receive 1 point. If you get all 7 correct, your reward will be green rep. If none of the participants in this contest get all 7 correct, then green rep will be given to that person who makes (or those people who make) the most correct predictions. Without further ado:

WALL-E

I'm torn on two categories. I think Ledger, Slumdog, Danny Boyle, and Wall-E are all locks at this point. I think Winslet is the lead front runner in her category while Streep could still be a spoiler but I think it's winslet's to lose.

That leaves best actor and supporting actress. I think it's really close with Rourke and Penn. Rourke picked up the BAFTA and the Golden Globe while Penn won the SAG. In the end I think the buzz around Rourke and his "comeback" performance may help him secure the win. Also Penn just won the best actor 5 years ago, and while that doesn't mean he can't win again, the academy probably doesn't feel the need to award him another one so soon.

Supporting Actress is down to 3 people, I believe. Amy Adams and Taraji Henson are both out at this point. Tomei is my 3rd place, who could still spoil. She has already won a oscar and I don't know if she's a big enough name to win another one. I think it's really going to be down to Penelope & Viola. Penelope was an early favorite winning many critics awards but the same thing happened to Amy Ryan last year, who was the front runner than losing to Tilda Swinton. Davis gave a very strong(10 minute)performance. She was also working with Streep which doesn't hurt the buzz. I think either could win, but I'm gonna stick with Penelope even though my gut is saying Davis.

I agree with most of these. But I dont see what Marissa Tomei did of note besides showing her tata's in the Wrestler. I mean really.

Halle Berry won for getting buck neked and doing the nasty. Plus Marisa Tomei has eeked out the win before, when much better performances were up for the nomination. Best Supporting Actress- Marisa Tomei

Heath Ledger is virtually a lock for the win. I've already stated before that in any other case, there'd be reason to believe Downey Jr. could upset, but the posthumous nomination is just too strong to think he won't win. If ANYONE but Ledger wins, it may go down as the biggest surprise in Oscar history, or at least since Martin Scorsese got his ass handed to him by Kevin Costner and some Indians. Best Supporting Actor- Heath Ledger

Best Actor is still a toss up. Usually at this point, one has gotten a slight edge over the rest, but Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke have been trading wins all season. Penn has the SAG, while Mickey has both the Golden Globe AND the BAFTA, which are the two biggest foreign awards in the world. Mickey's backstory is more endearing, but Sean Penn is the Academy's golden boy. This, coupled with Penn's being a real life inspirational story, could help put him over for the win. So for now, I'll say Sean Penn- Best Actor. HOWEVER, it's still a heavy possibility for Rourke to come, OR all the old timers split votes between the two, and the new generation A-list unifies and votes for their buddy Brad Pitt (you KNOW he's got Clooney's vote locked in). So, to the those with a trained eye, this is actually a THREE-Way race.

Best Actress- Kate Winslet. Who DOESN'T love her?! This is her, I believe, 6th nomination, and has yet to win. The only person who has any chance to upset is Queen Streep, and she's such a sweet woman that she's probably insisting that noone vote for her. Either Winslet wins, or Streep wins and gives the trophy to her.

WALL-E for Best Animated Feature
is a lock for sure. The others don't stand a single chance at all.

Now, Best Picture and Best Director are difficult to predict this year. These awards USUALLY go hand in hand, at least when there's a heavy favorite for Best Picture. However, when there is more than one film vying for the Oscar, Best Director or Screenplay are usually given as consolation prizes. However, Slumdog and Benjamin Button are in different Screenplay categories, so that isn't to be taken into account. I think at this point, Danny Boyle is the favorite for director; however that does not ensure a win for Millionaire for Best Picture. Because Slumdog Millionaire is this years "little movie that could", The Academy could very give it the director's award as a consolation and give Benjamin Button Best Picture. On the flip side, Benjamin Button is pure Hollywood schmooze; a artsy film that scored with both critics and audiences. This is the blockbuster of the Best Picture contenders, and the Academy would love nothing more than to pat itself on the back for a job well done. If David Fincher is given the statue, than Benjamin Button is a lock for Best Picture. However, I think it's most likely that The Academy will split the two. So, Best Director- Danny Boyle, but Best Picture- Benjamin Button

Shango, I respectfuly disagree with you about Brad Pitt even being in the race. Yes he has the "A" list thing going for him, but I would put him 4th overall even behind Langella. I just really don't think anybody thinks Pitt is even has a chance. He was good but it was a gimmicky performance and even though I actually want him(and the film)to win, I don't think there's a hell's chance he would be in the top 2 vote getters, let alone win.

All right, so far, it's me, 48.7, Shango, and m_f.

Movies

I'm probably going to win.

If you don't put your predictions in, then it's impossible for you to win.

This is an interesting observation. It would be interesting to see who you think will win Best Supporting Actress...please make your predictions.
Tdigle. If this was up to me I would pick.

Taraji P. Henson, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Nice pick. You don't care to predict who will win in the other six categories?

Some of the choices are pretty obvious. But I couldnt choose between Rourke and Pitt. BOth were fantastic and If either won it. THen I would not be mad. It will probably be that overrated hack Sean Penn though that wins the best actor award.

All right, so far, it's me, 48.7, Shango, m_f, and Monkey (he can't choose who will win Best Actor, but, since he's special, I let him pick two people; to be fair, if he beats anyone by one prediction and wins the contest, I will give both him and the person/people he beats by one point rep). Also, jmt225 is indirectly in, since he told me in a rep comment that his predictions are the same as mine.

I would love to get at least ten people in this. Remember, all you have to do is go to the first page of this thread, copy and paste the seven Oscar Categories, and bold the nominee that you think will win.
