Okay, here's a case of one of my favorite cover songs of all time, by a very unlikely artist. First off, we have the original, a rock and roll classic from the Rolling Stones that everyone and their mother knows, with a guitar riff that is so catchy is ought to just be downright illegal.
The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Now, on to the cover by Devo. Yes, that Devo, the one that did "Whip It". If that's all you know this band for I feel very, very sorry for you. If you're a fan of new wave or post punk or just good fuckin' music in general, their late 70s and early 80s work was absolutely out-of-this-world good. Songs like "Gut Feeling" rock just as hard as any other punk at the time. Yes, Devo was most certainly punk. Here's there cover of the Stone's classic song, one that you may remember for it's prominent use in the Martin Scorsese film Casino.
Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
This is a difficult one for me. I love the Stones original, but I think I prefer Devo's cover, simply because of how they manage to totally rework the song, yet retain it's spirit and turn it into this frenetic slice of post punk goodness. Gets my vote here.
What say you?
