[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong; that is your oath

here it is. Going on my left forearm, all the way up, beneath my coat of arms (for those of you who have seen my tattoos)

Not that exactly, something simular though

Whole lot of nice.

So far, I want this logo somewhere on my upper back/right arm done

Not in red, though. Cause then my man meter drops 50 points, and my wallet loses 60-70 extra lol

What about Brazen? </3

And karma strikes. I finally got burned with my 'chick with a bf' situation. Saw it coming miles away, but it still sucks. Funny how she constantly avoids all consequences. Eh, now I need to find some distractions in the form of books(2666, The Plague, and Infinite Jest at the moment), music, movies(any suggestions? I need some good ones), and other thangs.

This is one of my new favorites.

So what's up, X?

I want you to do a homework: look for an Argentinian girl, and have her speak to you. That accent is the most awesome latino accent EVER!

Have you ever seen the directors cut of Kingdom Of Heaven?

The cinematic one is already my favorite movie, but I have heard and read that the directors cut is roughly 137 times better, and is the way Ridley Scott wanted it to be seen anyway.

Im gonna go look around for it on my next days off, make a purchase.

Do it, NorCal.

You heard correctly about the director's cut. It makes the original release look like a directionless, muddled piece of crap

I've actually never seen any cut of Kingdom of Heaven. It's just one of those movies I've been meaning to watch, but never have gotten around to.

1) Sucks to hear about you and your lady friend man.

2) Good books, movies, music? Hmm. Have you ever read any Kerouac? Specifically The Dharma Bums? I'd recommend that, one of my personal favorites. Good music? Hmm, check out Bauhaus if you've never heard them. Good movies? Hrmm, have you ever seen any Luis Buñuel films? Surrealistic masterpieces.

3) Last Caress is possibly The Misfits finest moment. My friends and I thought we were so cool singing the lyrics to that song in seventh grade.

Oh man, ya gotta. Love that movie, absolutely love it. Very cool, especially if you are any bit of a fan of movies from that period, and general subject matter

Well, good news have sprung up on my end...
Apparently, my college system is getting 2 days off...because of a student halt. Which actually makes me want to put up a song

How's things in RI?

Moving past it. The other kid's the one that's unknowingly chained to a cheater.

I need movies more than anything else. I have too many books on my list as it is.

I haven't heard much else from them, but I definitely like this one.

Completely agree with Norcal on Kingdom Of Heaven (I still need to see the Director's Cut myself though). In my opinion, it's without a doubt the best 'epic' movie of the decade.

I was not a big fan of the original release. Ignoring the historical inaccuracies, it felt very stunted and somewhat muddled, particularly the character of Sybilla. It was probably a solid three star movie.

The Director's Cut rectifies these problems, restoring the film to its five star glory.

Definately going to be a purchase over the next few days

While it may be a touchy subject in the current world climate, I think that the Crusades are an under-tapped resource of movie material.

If you are interested in the subject, grab a copy of Thomas Asbridge's The First Crusade. It highlights the epic trek from western Europe, through the Balkans, across the lands of the Byzantine Empire to the Levant in simple but deep detail, highlighting personalities such as Bohemond, Godfrey and Tancred. Before even getting to the assault on Jerusalem, is the much forgotten but possible even more incredible siege of Antioch. The overwhelming odds that the Crusaders overcame before its walls were unbelieveable.

I am interested, Anceint History is pretty much my favorite thing. Thats why I love movies like this so much (fucking LOVED King Arthur and Gladiator as well, also the ol Robin Hood, even though it was pretty hammy)

Have you ever read the "What If?" historical books Barbosa? One of my favorites while I was overseas

Needless to say that I have a sizeable book collection - 396 at last count - and probably 300 of them are either Greek, Roman or military history. The wide range of my interested is probably shown by my current reading as I have just started the Osprey collection entry on US Army tactics during the Plains Indians Wars up to 1891 after finishing another entry on Herod the Great's army, while also reading a Star Wars book or two in between.

I have both of Robert Cowley's "What Ifs" compilations. Some interesting stuff, particularly the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem as well as the more obvious premature and later deaths of Alexander the Great and the possible Roman conquest of Germany. Thought the second installment was not as good as the first as it seems to get a little too American-centric and focus too much on events of the Second World War that to my mind would not have changed very much
