[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

X! You didn't forget your resolution to use me thinks more often did you? I just used it in a text and remembered you drunkenly saying thanks for reminding me to use it, or some shit. I dunno.

Was it ever in doubt baby?

I'm watching the episode of Raw in 98 where Road Warrior Hawk was on top of the Titan Tron threatening to kill himself. I don't know why people hated that angle so much. I mean, yeah, it was FUCKED UP that they did that angle with someone who actually WAS having legitimate drug and personal problems, but god that angle was fucking brilliant, it brought a whole new level of realism into wrestling. That may have been Russo's best angle.

Well, let's not go that far. There has been talk of people who were around who felt that he really might kill himself on TV during that angle.

Russo is the best ever at capitalizing on real life events, but sometimes you have to wonder the cost. Look at TNA right now. All of those guys have legit real heat with someone else. That could very well blow up in his (and Dixie's) face.

On a related note. I would love to explode on Dixie's face too.

Yeah, that's the one thing that I totally understand why everyone had a problem with it. They should NEVER have done that angle with someone who actually was having drug and personal problems, that's just cruel and unusual. But I fucking loved the angle itself, it showed a man who had always been like a myth and a childhood hero to the fans in a new light, showed that he wasn't superhuman and that wrestlers were people too and just like every day people they succumb to personal demons sometimes. That's what I've always liked about Russo, he presents the product in a much more adult way, his faces and heels all have shades of grey and personal problems, and it makes them more realistic and just better. Real people aren't always good and evil like faces and heels are, they're much more complex than that. Say what you will about Russo and his Shock TV, the man wrote a better product for ADULTS than any other wrestling writer in history. He was a pretty shit booker though, and there is a difference between the two.

I'm right with ya buddy, right with ya. I'd like Dixie to give me a nice reverse cowgirl ride.

Yo X, was that shhow in Lexington?

Yep, sure was. It was the night after Survivor Series 1998. Atleast I think it's in Lexington, I know it's in Kentucky because the Rock makes fun of the fans as "hicks" in his opening promo.

Yep, just went back to the beginning of the show and JR says they're in Lexington. So yep. Were you there?

Yep the Corporate Elbow debuted that night.

Now for the life of me I can't remember why I didn't go. I could have been in the front row with ease.

Yeah it's so fucking awesome just watching the Rock progress from week to week, the subtle progessions he makes. You know you're a wrestling nerd when you mark out realizing that a particular match is the first time Rock actually pulls off his elbow pad and throws it into the crowd when doing his elbow. Man it's been like a decade since I watched these old Raws, so much fun.

Just watched the Acolytes debut on the following Heat after Survivor Series. God the Jackyl/Cyrus was awesome, the WWF missed the boat on him big time.

I have no idea why I didn't go.

My best friend (the guy that told me about this place and who has forgotten more old school and wrestling than I could ever know) at the time's dad worked at Rupp Arena and could pull us tickets before the box office opened.

Wrestling needs more suicide angles.

Am I right or am I right?

I have no idea why I didn't go.

Maybe you were busy watching Nitro that night?

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. It's almost like, andI am not huge into comics, Russo was presenting wrestlers like Stan Lee would the X-Men. Wolverine was a hero, but he had his faults and demons. I think Russo was a big Marvel, or even Batman, fan.

And yeah, semen and Dixie.

So, because of my economic situation I guess for the moment I'm taking a break from smoking. Cigarettes that is. Been nearly 24 hours now since my last cigarette, and I do believe I'm beginning to feel the intense desire for one. Screw it, maybe I should just quit.

See, this right here, this is the shit I was talking about when I said it took us to places we can never come back from. Especially the bolded part, how the FUCK can that be seen as a good thing? It basically just tears down and shits all over what wrestling is all about. Hey lets try to take something fun and escapist and make it as depressing and shitty as real life, yea thats a fucking fantastic idea. Shit like that is why I hate the attitude era with such passion.

They are SUPPOSED to be heroes. They are SUPPOSED to not be every day people. Its a fantasy, a fun show, an escape from real life. Thats the whole fucking point.

To have your characters be human beings and not stale cardboard cutouts? Archetypes only take you so far man, I'm an adult, I want to watch something that both entertains and speaks to me as an adult. Having your characters be flawed and realistic is one of the things that does both those. How ISN'T it a good thing?

It basically just tears down and shits all over what wrestling is all about.

And how does it do that? Wrestling is about the dramatic simulated combat of these gladiators we call wrestling with dramatic storytelling elements written into it. That is exactly what wrestling is about. Why the fuck does it always have to be simple-minded good guy vs. bad guy? It doesn't.

Hey lets try to take something fun and escapist and make it as depressing and shitty as real life, yea thats a fucking fantastic idea. Shit like that is why I hate the attitude era with such passion.

Again, I prefer an adult product, something that is targeted to my age group, like the Attitude Era was. That angle with LOD got me more into them than ever before in my entire life. That angle made me actually give a fuck about anything Droz did, someone who I could not have cared two shits less about before.

They are SUPPOSED to be heroes. They are SUPPOSED to not be every day people. Its a fantasy, a fun show, an escape from real life. Thats the whole fucking point.

No, it's not dude. At all. If everyone is flawless and big heroes, what the fuck is the point? If they have no flaws how can they ever lose? What's the point of even watching? Where's the DRAMA to make me care about the match? Take the Rock and Foley's I Quit match, I cared more about Foley in that match than ever before because the guy was getting his brains scrambled infront of his wife and children. It made me invest in the match tenfold and made the match so much better.

$5.25 for a pack homie, and I consider that expensive.

You lucky prick. Reds weren't event hat cheap BEFORE the taxes were raised on them TWICE. Buying smokes in RI fucking sucks, costs me like 8$ for a god damn pack of cigarettes.

Uh, well. There is a fucking difference between getting the shit kicked out of you in front of your wife, and Taking one of the most amazing invincible super heroes to children and making him a fucking waster isnt there?

You see the difference here? In one instance, you are talking about a match. In the other, a fucking sickening bullshit angle.
