[Official] X Marks the Spot: Xfearbefore Xclusive Thread

What makes one film art and not another? They are all someone's creative vision. They are all an expression of one's interpretations of events and emotions. Just because Transformers has a huge budget and Michael bay doesn't mean it's not art in some fashion.

Transformers...is not art. Bay didn't sit there and make that film out of artistic vision, he made it based off of a children's TV series for the sole purpose of making himself a shit load of money. Sure, technically it's a film and thus can be classified as "art" in the same way any movie, painting, or song can. But compare Transformers to something like Fellini or Bergman, and you'll see it's not an art film. In any way.

I'm sorry, most of the "great" films bore the shit out of me. Most "art" films focus on settings and colors. I prefer characters and plot to beautiful backgrounds and props.[/rant]

You haven't actually seen many art films have you FTS? Because it has almost nothing to do with set design or colors. I'm talking about Herzog, Truffaut, and Godard here. Any of these ring a bell?

It's all art. It's all someone's vision put into a form of media for other people to view, enjoy, or critique.

I've seen some Fellini movies, and if you ask me to remember anything about them, it won't happen.

I'm not trying to say that Transformers is the most artisitcally beautiful movie ever made and that the plot development and character interactions are classic.

My question is what makes one movie art and another not? It's ludicrous to draw a line. It's all a form of art, and I don't know why we consider some and not others thus.

It's just the genre of film they're classified as. Art films take a completely different direction than big budget blockbusters. Technically all film is art, yes, but the genre of a Fellini film is why it's classified as art FTS. Personally there are plenty of Sci-Fi and horror films I'd classify as art. But it's just different genres, that's all.

What'd you think of my Cigar Lounge thread last night FTS?

 Hello Grand Master!

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no chaos; there is harmony.
There is no death; there is the Force.

I get it. I just think that it's snobbery to limit the genre of art to Fellini and Herzog. Speaking of which, Nosferatu, Herzog's Dracula movie, is kind of boring.

I think it's a bar room topic, but as long as it doesn't get spammy, it stays where it is, because, well, because it's yours.

My Walmart hasn't closed since 1979, except on Christmas. I have a feeling that if my city wasn't named after Jesus, it wouldn't close on Christmas. We went on high on party favors one night and poured six or seven betas into the same cup. Not my idea, but I am guilty of watching them tear each other apart.

Me and a friend found the switch to turn off the automatic doors at our local Wal-Mart and spent the next 2 hours with a video camera recording people as they walked face-first into the non-functioning doors.

Gross, my milk date was incorrect. I put it into my protein shake, and made a bowl of cereal. Sigh, drank the milk and it was all bad. I'm sueing.

Haha FTS come now I was following the Jake method of Cigar Lounge posting. Have you looked at the backpages of The Lounge and read some of his threads? I'm like Tarantino, I only rip off the best.

I signed the petition.

By the way, this has no relation at all.

Fuck, this movie is awesome! highly recommended if you want to see Bardem's work apart from No Country for Old Men. I remember I gave a presentation on Euthanasia last semester and watched this. I fell in love with this movie right away from start to finish.

Oh yeah Steve I've seen The Sea Inside (the English title), and I absolutely loved it. I still prefer Abre los Ojos, but Sea Inside was marvelous as well. Nothing beats Abre los Ojos for me though, you seen it?

I love this tribute video (and I love this song to fucking pieces)

Holy shit, I wanna watch it now! I MTFO for Penelope Cruz. But it reminds me of Vanilla Sky. Is this the original version of it? I'm still watching it, though.

This, and nineteen-eighty-four. I read that John Hurt kicked ass in that film.

Yeah it's the original Spanish film by Alejandro Amenabar (same guy who did The Sea Inside and The Others among other films) that they remade as Vanilla Sky. Alot of people hate on Vanilla Sky, but I absolutely love it, and the original is even better. Definitely seek it out dude, if you liked The Sea Inside odds are you'll absolutely love Abre los Ojos. Shouldn't be very difficult to find.

Hey X, that guy who hates you is back on the forums. His name is Xfearbeforesuckscock. Apparently he has 39 usernames left for you before he is destroyed. He posted in the TNA section about a new midcard title.
