Getting Noticed By Management
we have a new ROH World champion, Nigel McGuinness
he defeated Morishima last night in New Jersey...
how long do you see his run with the title lasting? i feel he will be just a transitional champion, but what do i know? i was kinda shocked when i read this last night, but i guess it was his 3rd chance, and it was PPV taping, and if he wouldve lost then what would he have done? anyways, the new champ is gonna break plenty of jaws defending his title
congratulations Nigel

Nigel as the new ROH champ, danm I like the sound of that, Nigel is becoming one of my favs in ROH, and it good to see that he is now the ROH champ, I was never a huge fan of Morishima, though I say that after only seeing two of his matches and I'd just like to say that he is talented and all, just doesn't appeal to me for some reason, I wonder who the next challenger will be Aries, Strong, Jacobs???

Personally I think Nigel deserves a title run. But I also would have liked to see Morishima have a longer run. Although personally I'm glad that Danielson hasn't got the title. Not that I dont like him. I just prefer a bit more variety when it comes to champions.

I think RVDgurl was at that show, I could be wrong but if she was we'll have to get her to give us a review of the match

And I'm with Jake in that I'm glad Danielson isn't ROH champ, variety is a good thing when it comes to champions in wrestling, and is something WWE needs to learn

BTW is this Nigel's first run as ROH champ? I can't remember he has been champ before or not

He's been Pure champ. But this is his first World championship.

To be honest I'm really surprised WWE have never shown much intrest in him. His and Danielsons style is similar to what Triple H is a fan of. Then again perhaps to Triple H wrestling begins and ends with WWE.

yes this is his first run as ROH World champion...he held the ROH Pure title for quite a while before he lost the unificztion match with Bryan Danielson last year at Unified in the UK

Morishima was an awesome champ, in my opinion...some say his matches were all alike, that the challenger would take him to the limit, until he just shook off the beating, roared at them, then finished them off with a lariat and a backdrop driver...i like that...he was the champ...he should be a badass...also, i might be alone here, but i wanted Dragon to take his title back, not taking anything away from Nigel, but Danielson is the fucking man

That's what I thought, and yeah I think Triple H doesn't pay to much attention to the indy scene, he probably figures WWE has people for that, and it's beneath him

I was surprised with the news and pretty happy. I never thought much of Morishima, his matches were never anything amzing in my opinion. Nigel McGuiness on the other hand is one of my favourite ROH stars and I'm really happy he has the strap now. I just hope he's not going to be a transitional champion.

I'm very pleased with this news. Although Nigel has never been the most entertaining member of the ROH roster for me (although he's high up) he's my favourite, especially since he's slain the beast. I'll definitely be getting the DVD when it comes out.

Oh, and by the way, there were rumours of WWE being interested in him a while back.

He'll get a good title regin. this is the phase where ROH gets their push into homes and having him as the face of the promotion is a great idea. i am sure the match was brutal and great being that Morishima has had a number of very brutal matches and for him to loose it must have been great. this is awesome news.

I am soooo glad that ROH took the belt off of Morishima! I was at the show last night and the McGuiness v. Morishima match was good. There were alot of false finishes that really made you think that Morishima was going to retain. I was in complete shock when Nigel won. The place went bananas.

I think that Nigel will have a good run as champion. However, I do believe that ROH is setting up the continuation of the MCGuiness/Danielson fued. After Nigel won and the locker room came out to congratulate him, there was a little spot where Danielson got in his face and had to be escorted to the back. Looks like the title change is the set Danielson up to become first ever 2 time ROH champ.

I am partial because Nigel is my ROH favorite, but it was definitely time for him to get the belt. I was in attendance to see Nigel win the belt this past weekend, and it was incredible. He has put a lot of himself into ROH and is very talented overall. Right now, Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson are engaged in a best out of three matches to see who will earn the right to go after the belt first. By November 2nd, we should know which one of these guys will go against McGuinness for the title shot. I would like to see this become a feud between the Dragan and McGuinness because the two of them in the ring is just amazing to watch.

I think now that McGuinness has the belt, Danielson won't be able to beat him. I also believe that Austin Aries is going to be a huge part of McGuinness' title reign considering the Danielson/Aries best of 3 and the sudden disappearance of The Resillience (Cross gone for 60 days and Stevens being injured). I'm of the believe that it will be Austin Aries and not Bryan Danielson being the first two time ROH World Champion. However, I don't feel its going to be one of them who beats Nigel. I'm thinking that distinction is likely either going to go to Claudio Castagnoli (who ROH is starting to build as a potential ace) or Roderick Strong. Naomichi Marufuji is also a big possibility in my eyes.

What I'm interested in now is McGuinness being in Survival Of The Fittest. I see him beating Danielson in the first round but I can't see him winning it. Therefore he's going to give someone the rub in the six man part of it and I'm really stoked to see who it is.

what i want to see is KENTA vs. Nigel for the title...i dont know if they have ever fought one on one in ROH...that would be classic...it needs to happen

man thats great news that nigel has one the title for the first time, he deserves it, takeshi morishimas time as champ had run out months ago and i was dying for someone to beat him then, nigel will have a good run with the title, then he will lose it to either austin aries or KENTA, personally i would like it to be KENTA, man KENTA would be good as roh champion and then when he's done with his run then he can lose it to austin aries and he can lose it roderick strong and the list goes on because we have future roh champions in KENTA, strong, bj whitmer, adam pearce, claudio castagnoli and maybe some more but if jimmy rave never left roh he would be a future roh champion

I'm rather annoyed that Jimmy Rave left ROH for TNA. McGuinness and Rave had a readymade world title feud, considering their brief feud months ago.

Didn't Rave make McGuinness tap to the heel hook?

I honestly don't recall Jimmy winning many matches over the past year. I like Jimmy well enough, but I don't think he would have ever gotten a title reign in ROH (not that he's going to fare much better in TNA). There are a handful of guys that are more deserving of a title run than Jimmy, he would've been waiting a long time for his turn.

I guess we were both right. Jimmy Rave didn't really win any matches in the last year, but he did beat McGuinness a couple times once at The Chicago Spectacular Night #1, Final Battle 06 and Battle Of The Icons in a No DQ I Quit match. Jimmy Rave did also have a bit of a win streak going through the Fifth Year Festival, the only match he dropped was to Samoa Joe.

I thought it was more recent than that but it once again makes me realize that this year has flown by ridiculously fast.

YES...3 times in a row i think...i know for sure at Final Battle 06, and i wanna say in the 8 man tag @ Chicago Spectacular night 2, but i could be wrong, but YES Rave made Nigel tap more than once to the heel hook

Nigel will definitely have the belt for a good run. Making a man like Nigel a transitional champ would be a serious waste. Transitional champ would be someone like Delirious (which sucks because I'm a Delirious mark), Jacobs, or even Castagnoli. Feel-good characters. But serious wrestlers? Usually they have longer runs.

I don't know about all serious wrestlers having long runs. Low Ki's reign as champ wasn't very long. CM Punk and James Gibson didn't have particularly long runs, but that would have probably been different had they stayed. Also, Homicide wasn't likely to have had a long run even if he did stay.

So with that in mind, I don't think its necessarily true. But in Nigel's case, I give him a six month run that's similiar to Aries' run.

He really does deserve it, im really excited about seeing on DVD when i can get hold of it over here (UK) which should not be too long.

He should make a great champ, but i can see danielson, aries or strong taking it off of him in a few months. that could be followed by a fued between them with Nigel chasing the belt.

that would be some good TV.

Well McGuinness is injured. He'll be dropping the title. The Star said he's going to be out for about 4-6 months. It's a shame. I imagine he'll vacate the title instead of being pinned. Hopefully there's a tournament. What am I on about, this isn't WWE. They won't decide it with a Battle Royal.

he actually fought last night...was called out by Chris Hero, and basically tapped out to him, but his foot was on the ropes, so restart, he wins...i know his arm is cashed out, but maybe he is gonna fight his way through it, like Danielson did for so long with his shoulder injury...i dont know

I fully expected to see Nigel drop the belt at the Philly show on 11/2. He did work a short match with Chris Hero and he retained the belt. However, he did not use his injured arm at all. I'm not sure how this is going to play out, but I think the original diagnosis of 4-6 months was only if he had surgery. At this point it sounds like he may not need it.
