NFL draft: Happy/Disappointed about your team's picks?

Pre-Show Stalwart
I wanted to ask all the NFL fans in this forum (and it doesn't look like there's too many of us) if you guys are happy with the players that YOUR team drafted last weekend? Why or why not? What grade would you give them?

My team is the Minnesota Vikings and here are their draft picks for 2010:

2nd round: Chris Cook CB
2nd Round: Toby Gerhart RB
4th round: Everson Griffin DE
5th round: Chris Degeare OL
6th round: Nate Triplett LB
6th round: Joe Webb QB (will be converted to WR)
7th round: Micky Shuler TE
7th round: Ryan D'Imerio

I personally am content with the Vikings draft picks this year. If I were to give the draft a grade, it would be a solid B.

I go to UCLA so I know Gerhart (Standford) and Griffin (USC) very well and I think that these two young men are steals. Gerhart will be a great change of pace back along with Adrian Peterson and Griffin, I feel, will get the starting nod once training camp ends.

I'm not too happy about Chris Cook though. Jimmy Clauson, Brian Price and my favorite player in the draft, Taylor Mays were still on the board. I understand that Cook is tall and lanky and will fit perfectly with the cover two defense that we play but my problem is that I feel like we could have gotten him later in the draft (3rd-4th round).

The other picks were for depth so I'm pretty happy about that. We have suffered a lot of injuries in seasons past so its good to have depth.

So that's my team and my feelings about how they drafted in the 2010 NFL draft. What are your thoughts/ feelings about how your team drafted? What grade would you give them?

As a Jets fan, I am very happy with my teams Draft. While they did not draft a defensive lineman (one of the positions they needed a little depth), they were able to get some pieces that will really help make the Jets one of the teams to beat in the American Football Conference. Here is the low-down of the Jets draft:

Round 1 (29): Kyle Wilson, Cornerback, Boise St
Round 2 (61): Vladimir Ducasse, Offensive Lineman, UMASS
Round 3 (92) and Round 5 (160): Braylon Edwards, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
Round 4 (112) and Round 6 (198): Joe McKnight, Running Back, USC
Round 5 (139) and Round 7 (236): John Conner, Fullback, Kentucky
Round 5 (155): Santonio Holmes, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers

I included the 3 picks that were given up in the trades for Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes, because (especially in Holmes case) in both cases, The Jets effectively drafted those players with the picks.

Rex Ryan loves having depth at Cornerback, and Corner was the Jets biggest weakness defensively. Kyle Wilson will start immediately at Nickel, and could even jump Cromartie if Cromartie struggles.

The Jets biggest strength this past year on offense was the line, which was one of (if not the) best in the NFL. Unfortunately, it was also very old. Vladimir Ducasse will be starting at Left Guard this season, since the Jets released Alan Faneca. The other 4 members of the line will be able to help Ducasse blossom into a solid player.

The Jets then did what they do best with their next 2 picks, trade up. Joe McKnight is a fast, elusive runner, whom is considered a "poor man's Reggie Bush." He is going to have the unenviable task of replacing Leon Washington, who was traded for the 5th round pick John Conner, but Washington is coming off such a gruesome injury, it is unknown if he will be the same player. The Jets didn't want to take that risk with Shonn Greene and LT as the other 2 back, so McKnight is a good pick.

John Conner (The Terminator) was widely considered the best fullback in the draft. The Jets #1 running game leans on Fullback as a blocker. The Jets have one of the best in the business in Tony Richardson, but he is older then dirt, and you need to have a replacement ready. Conner should be a perfect fit for the Jets, in 2010, and beyond.

If I were to assign a letter grade to the Jets 2010 Draft, I would give it an A-. The Jets were able to pick up one of the top corners in the draft, a great lineman, a change-of-pace runner, and a fullback, not to mention 2 pro-bowl caliber wide receivers. The only problem I had with their draft was not getting a defensive end. Cutting Faneca is a questionable move, but they wanted to get younger on the line, and Faneca may not have been willing to take a backup role.

I love the pick of Joe McKnight. I watched him play against UCLA and I believe that if he got more touches (because USC splits touches with all of their 5 star recruits), everyone would see how special this young man is. Kid has heart and I actually wanted the Vikings to draft him in the later rounds. You guys got a steal with McKnight.

On a side note, the Jets just released Faneca. Is there any reason for this? I thought that he still had some gas left in the tank. But shit, if the Vikings picked him up, I definitely would not mind :D

Dude, Joe McKnight is gonna drive the ball all over the field with whatever touches he gets.... And now he won't be questioned for driving around in some SUV.

Jets released Faneca because he is old and a terrible pass blocker. Ducasse is the new starting LG. They drafted Ducasse because they planned on cutting Faneca, because he led the league in sacks allowed or something like that.

USC always gives shit to their good players. I don't why the college community thinks this is out of the ordinary. There's OJ Mayo, Reggie Bush that Cush and this other kid that went to Mississippi State because people thought that he did something. I don't know man. Boosters have money. They want to give money to these kids. It should be allowed. It's a fucking SUV. Have you seen the place that surrounds USC?!?! You can't walk around there. Shit's dangerous LOL.

But anyway, McKnight is a beast. He didn't do too much at USC though. But the Jets won't let Sanchez throw lol so he'll get more touches to prove all the doubters wrong. Here's his stats from USC:

Ahhhhh makes sense. He was off his game last year. Maybe he's done. As a Jets fan, are you disappointed about this release? I've read that some are. He's still ok by me :D He brings leadership and experience. The Vikings need to get at Faneca.

Round 1: Patrick Robinson, Cornerback, Florida State
Round 2: Charles Brown, Offensive Tackle, USC
Round 3: Jimmy Graham, Tight End, Miami
Round 4: Al Woods, Defensive Tackle, LSU
Round 4: Matt Tennant, Center, Boston College
Round 7: Sean Canfield, Quarterback, Oregon St.

Loved the first pick. We have a strong, deep defensive back core going, and adding Patrick Robinson was a great move to give it even more depth. Have no problem whatsoever with this pick.

Charles Brown is another one I have nothing bad to say about. I hate USC, and I know fuck all about the offensive linemen from that school, but... nothing ever wrong with adding depth to your offensive line. We have a great one already in New Orleans and if one ever goes down, it'll be nice to have a solid back-up like Brown has the potential to be.

Now, the 3rd Round pick, I didn't like at all. I understand the philosophy of selecting the best player available, but when that best player is at a position that we are already secured at, then we don't need to select him. Not only is Jeremy Shockey still a great Tight End, but his back-up David Thomas is solid as well. Thomas stepped up HUGE during some games last year when Shockey sat out. Why do we waste a 3rd Round pick on another Tight End, especially when we still had holes to fill on defense? I did not like this pick AT ALL.

The 4th Round selection of Al Woods... meh. I mean, this guy had all the potential in the World at LSU, and everyone was waiting for him to become the superstar he was promised to be, but it never happened. However, I don't blame the Saints for still giving him a shot, since it's still possible he could reach his full potential and become a very good football player as a pro. He has it all physically, so there's no excuse not to believe that they can't shape him up into being a productive defensive end in this league.

The other 4th Round selection in Matt Tennant... again, never bitching about drafting an offensive lineman. We have one of the best centers in the league already in Jonathan Goodwin, and his back up didn't show much when Goodwin went down for a little bit last year. So, if anything happens to Goodwin, then hopefully Tennant can step in and filled the void. He's certainly big enough to do so, that's for sure.

And I absolutely loved the 7th round pick of Sean Canfield. Saints need a solid back up behind Drew Brees, and I liked what I saw out of Canfield. He's a big guy with a solid arm. I love the selection, and hopefully Brees and co. can mold him into a good NFL Quarterback just in case they need to call his number some day.

All in all.... very good draft. The 3rd Round pick I didn't like, but none of the other picks bothered me at all. I'm very, very happy with this Saints team. Cannot wait for next season.

They definitely should get something during their stay at college, since they work a more then full-time job, while going to college. But the rules are the rules, and USC violates them (pretty frequently, apparently). They should face sanctions, and likely will.

But the Jets won't let Sanchez throw lol so he'll get more touches to prove all the doubters wrong. Here's his stats from USC:
Sanchez will throw a lot now. He has 2 awesome receivers in Edwards and Holmes, and Cotchery is one of the most underrated receivers in the league. Keller is a beast as a Pass catching TE, and with LT as a 3rd down back, I wouldn't be surprised if they throw a hell of a lot more, especially since Sanchez isn't a dumb rookie anymore.

Ahhhhh makes sense. He was off his game last year. Maybe he's done. As a Jets fan, are you disappointed about this release? I've read that some are. He's still ok by me :D He brings leadership and experience. The Vikings need to get at Faneca.
Not in the least. It was time to get younger at the O-Line, so it's a good move. 1step back to go 5 steps forward.

Round 1- Jerry Hughes (OLB)
Round 2- Patrick Angerer (ILB)
Round 3- Kevin Thomas (DB)
Round 4- Jacques McClendon (OG)
Round 5- Brody Eldridge (TE)
Round 7- Ricardo Matthews (DT)
Round 7- Kavell Conner (OLB)

I have learned not to question the Colts drafting because it always works out for the best. I really like the first two picks. The linebackers for the Colts are not that great outside of Gary Bracket. Both Hughes and Angerer have a ton of potential and should fit into the Colts defense very well. Hughes in particular should develop nicely with the Colts. We also added another DB to the team and that is not a bad thing but it is a good thing. Our secondary is usually injury riddled and not very good other then Bethea but Thomas gives us another option which will be good.

We needed and offensive lineman to replace Lilja and we got that in the third round. Now we maybe should have made this pick earlier and got someone a bit better but I really can't complain to much cause I don't know much about this McClendon guy.

Overall I though our draft was good. We addressed our defensive issues that really cost us in the Superbowl, besides the fact that the Saints just beat our ass. I really enjoy the picks on defense. Hopefully the offensive lineman pans out and I didn't really get the Tight End pick but the Colts will figure something out.

Round 1- Ndamukong Suh (DT)
Round 1- Jahvid Best (RB)
Round 3- Amari Spievey (CB)
Round 4- Jason Fox (OT)
Round 7- Willie Young (DE)
Round 7- Timothy Toone (WR)

I'm very happy with the Lions draft. Suh was arguably the best player in the whole draft and he along with the off season additions of Kyle Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams have turned the Lions weak D line into a team strength.

Best is a home run hitter and the combination of he and Kevin Smith in the backfield is going to be great.

Spievey is a tough corner who can also play safety. The Lions need help in both areas so he is a great pick.

Jason Fox is a big tackle who can develop into a solid contributor on the O line fairly quickly.

Willie Young has a lot of talent and was a steal in round 7. He could become a good situational pass rusher.

Mr Irrelevant aka Timothy Toone is a white guy with dreads so he has to be good, right? He has good speed and will have a chance to compete for a job as the Lions return man because they desperately need one.

Thrilla, your a Vikings fan? Rep coming your way. However where the hell is Everson Griffen going to start? There is no chance in hell that he wins a starting job. He is nowhere near the talent of Ray Edwards at this point. Remember who our best defensive player was throughout the whole playoffs. It wasn't Allen or the Williams boys or Winfield or Greenway, it was Ray Edwards. Plus he is in a contract year, so there is no doubt he will start and he will probably move on elsewhere next season. But no way a 4th round pick supplants him as a starter.

Overall I'm happy with our draft class. I'm glad we took Cook. Only other player I would have taken there would have been Clausen, but I don't think QB is as big a need as most people. I'm just glad we didn't take Taylor Mays. The guy is an AWFUL fit for the cover 2 defense, as his coverage skills are terrible. His tackling is alright, but its only if he is coming at you hard. Terrible in coverage though and that is the key part to a cover 2 safety. Tyrell and Madieu are both better. Cook fills the need of a DB. Can play some safety if need be and will be an excellent nickel CB or starter if Ceddy isn't ready to play come the season opener. Gerhart was a good pick, though he isn't the RB we needed. Still a good pick though. Griffen was our steal hopefully and will be a starter if Edwards leaves during the offseason. If Ray stays then Griffen will be an excellent situational DE and maybe even occasional LB. Love the Webb pick, I really like his potential at WR or QB. Shuler will be the replacement for Sauce down the road. Other picks were decent. Disappointed we didn't address the OLine need earlier. Overall I'll say a C+.

I'm happy with the Steelers draft. Pouncey is a sure thing, is very versatile, can play center and guard. We added OLB depth and special teams help. Worilds and Gibson were excellent choices. Both are the prototypical 3-4 linebacker. They can play on the line or off. I was surprised Dwyer lasted to the sixth round. He ws a great selection. He'll be a perfect compliment to Mendensoft, and Sanders had a productive NCAA career. We don't value CB's but we do value OLB's. so I give the Steelers a B. They filled needs, especially on Special Teams. We also got excellent value with our last two picks... This right here shows you why the Steelers are so consistent, they stick with what works for them. Not drafting athletes, just straight up football players. Also, Im a closet Bronco's fan, they did exceptionally well in my opinion. Got there QB, new receiver and some role players. But the best draft went to Detroit and San Francisco in my opinion and Carolina had the biggest steal with Jimmy Clausen. He goes into a great situation. The Panthers have a solid foundation and he'll succeed.

Yessir since the Randy Moss, Chris Carter and Daunte Culpepper days :D
I watched a lot of Griffin at USC. I feel like he has to tools to be a solid starter at DE (you really don't have to be great playing alongside Allen and the Williams Wall). I know that its a bold statement but I said that Griffin will start because I feel like the playoffs for Edwards was a FLUKE. I don't think he'll do it again, quite honestly. He had a monster game against the Cowboys but was shaky throughout the regular season.

If he can prove to me and to other Vikings fans, that he is a consistent player at DE, his spot on the line is not solidified. Therefore, I believe that Griffin has a good chance to supplant him at DE and I believe that he'll have more success as a starter. That may be biased considering that I've never ever been a fan of Edwards, but he still hasn't showed me that once he steps on the field, that he deserves the starting nod (like Jared Allen and Pat and Kevin). He still has to earn it but with Griffin around, it will only strengthen the competition and make both players even better. So its a win win for us Vikings fans.

Yeah, I'm starting to like Cook. Good size, height and length. He's perfect for the cover two. My problem with him is that I believe we WASTED a pick picking him so high. I believe that he could have still been there in the late 2nd round. Brian Price and Mt. Cody were still on the board. Pat Williams is 38. The front office should have pulled the trigger.

Gerhart is special man, you'll see. I've read that we'll play him and Peterson in the backfield at the same time, with Gerhart as the FB. I can't wait to see that package. That'll be beastly.

Griffin is definitely a steal. We're developing Webb as a WR who can handle the ball in the wildcat. I'm anxious to see how that will work.

A C+ though? Maybe you're not giving the front office enough credit. We checked off everything that we needed this offseason. CB check. Depth at RB check. DE check. LB check. OL check. Plus the offseason isn't over yet. We already got Lito Sheppard. Alan Faneca is a free agent. So is Henderson from the Jags. Plus there are the undrafted rookies. I have a lot of faith in the Vikings front office. They brought us Jared Allen and Brett Favre. They also drafted All Day and Mercy Percy. I trust the front office with my life. GO VIKINGS! One more run for number 4! :D

I'm giving the FO plenty of credit, I have full faith the draft class will work out. I gave it a C+ based on the values of the picks. Like you said Cook was a reach that early (though I think he will be a good player), Gerhart was good value, though I don't think we needed to trade up, Degeare kid was a reach honestly I believe he would have been there in the 7th, Shuler probably could have been picked up in UDFA (though I'm a fan of his and the pick in general), Griffen was without a doubt a steal, Webb is a player I like and his ceiling is high, and the LB's we drafted are EJ clones and we need LB who can COVER. Though I believe the kid from Rutgers will be moved to FB. I think the draft class will turn out well, but based on value and our needs and what was there the grade was lowered. Not a shot at all at our FO. I just think we should have grabbed an OLinemen earlier (round 3, as we didn't need the trade for Toby IMO) and snatched up a DT later in the draft (round 5, instead of Degeare).

Either way I like the class and I think it will do well for us once everyone develops and I'm looking forward to the season and hopefully we get to play in Dallas Stadium for the Super Bowl come February. And I don't think Edwards was a fluke at all. He had 8.5 sacks last season, which is pretty good. But he isn't out there to get the sacks, as that is for JA and KWill. He is one of the best DE at stopping the run which is important from his DE spot. I do expect Griffen to see the field this year, whether it is at DE, DT, or even some OLB.

I agree with you. I don't think we should have given up our third to draft him. I feel like he could have dropped in our lap if we just stayed where we were. We lost a third round pick in the process which I wasn't very happy about.

Degeare kid was a reach honestly I believe he would have been there in the 7th, Shuler probably could have been picked up in UDFA (though I'm a fan of his and the pick in general)
I feel Shuler could have went undrafted but Degeare was probably gonna get snatched up by somebody if we didn't get him. He's definitely a project though. I'm not sold on him yet. We'll see in the next few years.

LB who can COVER. Though I believe the kid from Rutgers will be moved to FB.
I was hoping that we would draft a LB who could cover as well. Ben Leber is probably leaving next year so we should have addressed that need but we'll probably sign a free agent.

Either way I like the class and I think it will do well for us once everyone develops and I'm looking forward to the season and hopefully we get to play in Dallas Stadium for the Super Bowl come February.
As am I my friend. I'd love to see Brett Favre hoist that championship trophy to the sky, which will pretty much be a big middle finger to the Packers :D

And I don't think Edwards was a fluke at all. He had 8.5 sacks last season, which is pretty good. But he isn't out there to get the sacks, as that is for JA and KWill. He is one of the best DE at stopping the run which is important from his DE spot.
He's just not consistent enough for me bro. I have watched this kid from the day that he got drafted. Did you know that before this year, the FO and everyone who was a fan wanted to sit Edwards in favor of Brian Robison? Did you also know that I was one of the fans that defended Edwards? He's a good player but he doesn't seem committed to the Vikings which I hate. He's going to leave next year, so we might as well groom Griffin to be his replacement sooner rather than later.

I've always been a fan of Edwards and never wanted Robison to start. I just don't think he is capable of starting. And I agree Edwards does not seem committed to the team and maybe with us draft Griffen he will realize we will move on with or without him. I still expect the same type of year out of him next year, as he is going to want his money from us or whoever coughs it up in FA.

Here's the Bills picks

1st rd. (9th) C.J. Spiller/RB
2nd rd. (42st) Torell Troup/DT
3rd rd. (72nd) Alex Carrington/DE
4th rd. (107th) Marcus Easley/WR
5th rd. (140th) Ed Wang/OT
6th rd. (178th) Arthur Moats/OLB
7th rd. (209th) Levi Brown/QB
7th rd. (216th) Kyle Calloway/OT

Well other than Spiller it seemed like we drafted for the UFL thats how bad I hated our draft. Our biggest needs were a OT, QB, DT, WR, and we go RB in the 1st with the 9th overall pick. Im not totaly against the pick since Spiller looks like he can become a star in the nfl, and was the best RB in the draft, Gruden called him the most talented player this year, so far I heard him compared to Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin, and Chris Johnson so Im pretty happy if he can play like those 3 and after watch highlight reels of him, it got me alot happier, hopefully he can be the game changer that our GM and owner thinks he can.

So for the 2nd round we go and get Torell Troup a DT. Now everywhere you look it is said that the Bills stretched on this one and I completely agree. Its Obivous the top ones were drafted early, with the amount that were drafted so fast I can see why they might of drafted him this early, but still dont like it. An OT would've been much better here than a DT, something we need more. Even here I would've like a QB, but I had a feeling that they wern't gonna draft one of the high prospects, Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey both said numerous times that they were content with 3 QB's on the roster.

3rd. Alex Carrington DE. Really dont get this one at all, yet another waste of a pick here is where we could've picked up an OT QB WR. He is said to need work using his hands, instinct to find the ball, and some refining as a pass-rusher, great so now he turns more into a project. What a waste of a pick, now if they drafted him later not as big of deal.

4th Marcus Easley WR. Cant say Im crazy about this pick either. I was more excited when we signed undrafted rookie Naaman Roosevelt a homegrown from UB, Easley is bigger but I got this strange feeling my boy Roosevelt is gonna move ahead of him on the roster.

5th Edward Wang OT. Holly shit we got a OT finally after 4rds. Lets hope he can do the same as Jason Peters and become a force, as a switch from TE to OT. Got a chuckle when Wang said he hopes to bring an impact to the NFL like Yao did to the NBA because he is the first full blooded Chinese player to play in the NFL, one problem he was born here in the Unites States. But as a player he seems like he will be alright, and we need all the help we can get there.

6th Arthur Moats OLB. Dont get it didnt think we needed any type of LB in the draft since this is one area that we have some depth at, so yet again another waste of a pick and rd.

7th Levi Brown QB. Yesssss we get a QB to bad its this guy, but as we know there is there another guy drafted in the 7th before that is not one of the best ever, one Tom Brady. Now I dont think he will ever become the level as Brady, but I could hope. He does have great size 6'3 and 230 and did have a QB rating of 146 and threw for 4200 yards with 23 td's but it was for Troy. Then our GM goes to say he was on thier rader the whole time and wanted a project QB something we didnt need at all, but its the 7th rd. so not pissed off really with it.
7th Kyle Calloway OT. All I can say is whatever, he does have good size, but we dont have know good veterans to develop him

Needless to say you can tell Im very unpleased with the draft, I forsee us with another top 10 pick next year, hell maybe even a top 5. We should have no problem hanging on to the bottom of the AFC east again, maybe next year we get Jake Locker. I just really hope Spiller works out cause it seems any of our past 1st rd rb's dont last more than 3 years in Buffalo.

Texan's fan here

Round 1: Kareem Jackson With the loss of Dunta Robinson we really needed a big need for Cornerback and we definitley address it with this pick. After Seattle took Earl Thomes I expected the Texan's to go after Kyle Wilson but instead we took Jackson which may be better choice for us. From what most sports analyst say he's the most NFL ready DB is this years draft so thats a plus for us.

Round 2: Ben Tate I would have liked to have gotten Ryan Matthews but Ben Tate will do just fine. Besides I still believe in Slaton he just hit the Sophmore wall and had injury's. Sure he's inconsistant but I believe he'll do better in the up and coming season I don't think he rushed for over a 1,000 yards his rookie season on accident. And now that he has a guy like Tate with that size and speed to take the load of off Slaton our rushing game will be a whole lot better. Lets not forget the fact that we still have Foster and Moats.

Round 3: Eric Mitchell I like this pick aswell he doesn't really have great size for a DT but he's quick. He can help out Amobi Okoye and take alot off pressure of off him sense alot of people are starting to label him a bust.

Round 4: Darryl Sharpton Sharpton adds depth to the LB position and is a guy that can deliever big hits. He'll be a moster coming off of the bench helping Ryans, Cushing, and Diles.

Round 4: Garrett Graham I felt that the Texan's already had enough TE but Daniels is still hurt and recovering from surgery so that leaves the door open for pretty much anyone. The Texan's now have James Casey, Anthony Hill, Joel Dressen, and now Garrett Graham to fill in for that TE roll for Daniels while he is out. And Graham came from the same school as Daniels so I can see Owen teaching this guy alot of things.

Round 5: Sherrick McManis More depth at the CB position. I don't know to much about McManis however I've heard that he had 5 interceptions in his Senoir year at Northwestern.

Round 6: Shelly Smith It never hurts to get more lineman and with the possibilty of Chester Pitts not starting to begin the season a guy like Shelly Smith can add good depth and possibly earn a starting spot.

Round 6: Trindon Holliday He's a little undersized but he's fast and quick as hell. If I'm not mistaking he was the fastest if not the fastest guy in the combine (didn't really get to watch the combine so correct me if I'm wrong). No doubt we will use him mostly for Special Teams it will take alot off of Jacoby Jones who is IMO will most likle have a break out season this year.

Round 7: Dorin Dickerson This guy IMO will be the steal of the 2010 draft, he played multiple positions in college LB, TE, and WR. From what I hear the Texans are planing on playing him at recevier he caught 49 passes last year at Pittsburgh as a TE and he has a chance to do better at reciever playing behing one of the best reciever in the game Andre Johnson.

Overall I give the Texans a B on their draft it was pretty solid and they filled alot of their needs other than at the saftey position. Looking foward to see what all of this young guys can bring to the table.

You guys got a solid pick with Charles Brown in the second round. OL is definitely something that all teams should address in the draft and Brown should be able to get on the field and make plays this year. This draft did not have too many valuable Offensive Linemen but Brown is definitely one of the them. Great pick for the Saints and I hope to see you guys against my Vikings in the NFC Championship game again.

I have to admit that the Lions hit home runs with their first three draft picks. Suh is a beast in the middle and will immediately make an impact. Best can break one at any time in the game and Spievey is a legit corner who can hurt some people. Great job by the Lions personnel and I definitely see the Lions competing for the playoffs in two-three years or so. I definitely think that they could have addressed the need at OL but drafting were they were, they should have taken Suh and taking Best was a steal. Best will compete for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award with CJ Spiller this year.

Yeah, Edwards isn't committed to the Vikings which is a shame because we are committed to him. He'll definitely leave Minnesota next year. I don't see why he would want to though. What is his beef with Minnesota? Does he not like Leslie Frazier? Does he not like the city? I lived in Minnesota for a year and I love the place. Pristine and beautiful. Well, I say get the most out of the guy and then give him the boot afterwards. I predict that he'll probably head to Chicago though once his contract is done.

My friend, you should have jumped out of your seat when the Bills drafted Spiller. Sure the Bills have a huge hole in the OL but with Okung gone, there were no other offensive linemen that would warrant a top ten pick. The Bills got themselves the Rookie of the Year in my opinion and Spiller will immediately make his presence felt in the AFC East.

The more I looked through the draft, I realized we was definitely the best available player for them, either way we need a game breaker and should have one now in him. Plus you look at Buddy Nix's track record for what he did for the Chargers in the years he did there. LT, Rivers, Jackson, Merriman. So the guy does know talent. Im just not happy that they are adamant in keeping Lynch around, I feel this is gonna create more of a problem since he expressed his desire to leave and pretty much worn out his welcome here. Having Lynch still on the team is gonna cut into Spiller's playing time. At least there is only 2 years left on Lynch's contract, but they have to move him now to get the most value for him.

New England Patriots:

Round 1: Devin McCourty, CB

I'm not too high on this pick. Sure we needed another cornerback, and we at least stockpiled some picks by trading down twice, but a bigger pressing need was pass rusher. Jerry Hughes, who was projected to be a top 15 pick would have been a no-brainer here. With Tom Brady retiring soon, and Belichick being so high on him, I thought Tim Tebow would have been a fine enough first rounder who would have been in an H-Back role while learning QB to succeed Brady. We have old WRs and Wes Welker's going to be out for at least the first eight weeks. DeMaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant are future #1 WRs. I think we could have held off another round on CB. We have a solid enough base with Bodden, Butler, and Springs. If we were going to pick CB, why not the better CB in Kyle Wilson, who the Jets ultimately got? Time will tell on this pick. We could have done better.

Round 2: Rob Gronkowski, TE, Jermaine Cunningham, DE/OLB, Brandon Spikes, ILB

I love the Gronkowski pick. He's got major potential to be a star TE in the NFL and Tom Brady is going to love him. He'll be able to catch a pass, something Ben Watson became incapable of doing. It gives the Patriots another option in the pass game too, and the more weapons for Tom Brady, the bigger chance this offense has to succeed.

Jermaine Cunningham, we'll see what happens. I think Belichick may have reached here, but with his relationship with Urban Meyer, he probably got some inside information on him that sold him on making him such a high pick. We needed a pass rusher and maybe he'll go a long way into solidifying that position.

I LOVE, LOVE the Brandon Spikes pick. He may have struck out at the combine, but this was a potential first rounder not too long ago who is thought to have character issues. I don't care if he has a slow 40 time. That always doesn't translate to the NFL and I think he and Mayo in the middle in the years to come is going to be deadly as hell.

Round 3: Taylor Price, WR

This is all about getting a speed burner for Tom Brady, who wound up with the impeccably slow Sam Aiken as a major option last year because of the Galloway bust and injuries. Taylor Price has some impressive highlights and he's the type of guy who might grow into being a solid third WR. This is a plus.

Belichick also traded another third rounder for a second rounder next year. This was a success all around.

Round 4: Aaron Hernandez, TE

The Belichick/Meyer connection strikes again with another excellent TE getting drafted by the team. With a base of Gronkowski, Crumpler, and Hernandez, the Patriots TE position is a position of strength now, and we're going to see the TE position, which has been neglected once we found out Ben Watson can't catch, become a major part of this offense again. Hernandez is an award winning TE with great production. This is a steal.

Round 5: Zoltan Mesko, P

The guy's name is Zoltan, which fans of "Dude, Where's My Car?" can appreciate and the days of Chris Hanson are over.

Round 6: Ted Larson, OL

He was regarded as a 4th-5th rounder, and if he pans out, could eventually replace Dan Koppen. Belichick usually has success picking offensive linemen late.

With the exception of the first rounder, I'm really happy with the draft as a whole, and I think that this is going to go a long way in solidifying some depth issues here as well as getting some production out of these guys this year. I think Brandon Spikes will be a contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

But the best draft went to Detroit and San Francisco in my opinion and Carolina had the biggest steal with Jimmy Clausen. He goes into a great situation. The Panthers have a solid foundation and he'll succeed.
I agree with you about Clausen and Carolina. He has all the weapons to succeed in that system. He has Steve Smith, who in my opinion, is a top 3 receiver in the league and the two headed tandem of Stewart and Williams. He doesn't need to carry this team, like Bradford does with his team and because he fell so much, he doesn't have the pressure that Tebow and Bradford have to deal with. Right now, Clausen is in position to prove all the doubters wrong and I wish the best for him.

I agree man, Lynch needs to go. He doesn't seem happy in Buffalo and he really doesn't look like he's giving 100% every time he plays. The fact that he only has 2 years left on his contract will only help the Bills though. That makes Lynch great trade bait and if the FO does it right, you guys might be looking at a 2nd rounder for next year once Lynch is traded.

I don't know why but I really like Spikes also. He has character problems and was terrible in the combine but this might help him. Hopefully this shows him that he has to work harder and that will only make him a better player. The Pats will only bring the best out of Spikes so I'm excited to see the Mayo Spikes tandem hurting some people in the future.
