Mysterio Out For "Months and Months?"

Not sure how I feel about this because on one hand I never liked him much and have become bored of his same old character over recent years but at the same time I don't like seeing anybody being forced to take time out over an injury. I wont miss him that is for sure but he has given a lot to pro wrestling and deserves to end his career on his terms not because of an injury. I am sure he will come back at the Rumble to huge pops to have one last run at things before he calls it a day.

I hope he is out months and months, I'm absolutely sick of him now.
Hopefully in his absence Sin Cara will take over his spot and WWE will decide they don't need to be doling out a big pay cheque to a one dimensional has-been that passed his shelf life in 1999.

i like rey i really do he does some cool stuff but honestly its time for him to hang up his boots and mask forever the guy is always hurt and his knee is always in pain hes done pretty much all there is to in the business he should call it quits now before doctors tell him he cant pyschically do it anymore like what happened to edge a few monthes ago i personally dont wanna see something like tht happen to anybody anytime soon (well besides maybe orton or del rio....sorry just hate them) but back on topic rey just needs to call it quits now

Months? An ACL tear alone puts you out for 1 year or 8 months if you recover fast. He tore his ACL AND MCL...which is like nearly 2 years of recovery for both injuries.

He needs to retire. I think he will simply because, he hasn't been used properly enough to rehab these injuries and wrestle again. He lasted World Champ for 5 minutes in 2010, then 2 hours in 2011 as WWE Champ.

Why have mysterio have a match if hes not 100%? If he had problems then he shouldnt have wrestled. now he needs surgery. That was a shit call on part of management. Instead of rey being out for like a month or 2 now hes gone for alooooong time. It dont like this.

Sin Cara sucks and I hate to be the one to tell you. 95% of his offense results in an armdrag.

I come to you with a challenge. Who else has had more consistently good to great matches than Mysterio since 2002? Give me a wrestler and I'll tell you why you are wrong.

Mysterio has been one of the top three wrestlers during his tenure in the E. If this is his last run, I would send him to Smackdown and maybe feud with Christian.

What is your over all reaction to this?
not surprised, this is like his 7th knee surgery

Will we see Rey again?
yes, probably wrestlemania. he'll come out dressed as a transformer or a kung fu panda or something

Are you happy he may be gone, or will you miss him?
I don't ever want to see an injury take someone out but I wouldn't miss him if he was done for good. He put a lot of time into the business and has done a great job but his character hasn't really evolved since he was done feuding with Eddie over his son. I've gotten bored with him, and it's because he is aimed at children. Which is brilliant by the WWE cuz they make a boatload of money from it, I just don't care for it.

I respect Rey. I hope he has a speedy recovery. With that being said, this comes at a perfect time to give his stale-good-guy-PG-character a much needed TV break.

Rey probably needed some time off to heal up anyway, so this may be a blessing in disguise. I think we'll definitely see him back...probably come Mania time if he is to have that rumored match with Sin Cara, which contrary to some belief I think would be pretty good. There's probably no one better on the roster of working the style Cara is accustomed to than Rey. I see no reason why these two wouldn't be able to go out and light it up in the ring assuming Rey is recovered by that time. After that however, it might be time for Rey to seriously contemplate retirement. He's still good in the ring, but his body has just taken such a beating over the years that it's amazing he's still in there. That is particularly true of his knees. It's already been established that he'll probably need knee replacement in the future so it would be best for Rey to call it a career before he ends up losing more than that. There is no question that Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest and most beloved pro wrestlers of all time. I don't think anyone ever thought that he would accomplish all that he's done in his career. He's paved the way for lucadors in North America, brought a new high flying style that many American wrestlers use today, and proved that big things do come in little packages. If you would have told me 15 years ago that Rey would be a future 3-time world champ including a WWE champion, I would have laughed my ass off. He's proven the doubters wrong time and time again and for that I will always remember this sure fire Hall of Famer.

As for Cara, what exactly are some of you talking about? How many guys does he really have to work with to get used to the American style, WWE's in particular? Mistico is a LEGEND in Mexico and in a few short months which have mostly included botched matches and zero mic work, he's gotten over. Don't believe me? Go back and listen to the several times throughout the battle royal on Smackdown that he was getting chants...no that's not the original, but it's the character that's over. As soon as the real Sin Cara returns he'll receive equal pops no doubt.

How is this relevant to this discussion you may ask? Well because the young Rey Mysterio that I remember worked almost exclusively with other luchadors. Juventud, Eddie Guerrero, Psychosis, Ultimo Dragon, etc. It took Rey time to learn the style and he had a slew of others that worked like him to learn it before he ever got in the ring with the big names he has for years. Obviously the IWC is very impatient as has been proven time and again, but give Sin Cara some time. It won't happen overnight...it might take a couple years. But from what I hear from the fans and what I've seen in WWE's treatment of Sin Cara...he is the heir apparent to Rey Mysterio and there probably isn't a wrestler on the planet that deserves that honor more. Assuming the real Cara comes back, let's revisit that subject a year from now and see where we are.

I know what you mean, but I've seen it done, before. Yours might have been worse, but my older brother played his entire senior season of high school football with a partially torn MCL and maintained a high level of play; he was a Kentucky All-State OLB. Again, yours might have been way, way worse, but all my brother did was slap a brace on it and use crutches when he could. It was pretty bad, though, because twenty years later to this day he still wakes up in severe pain and uses a cane to get around, because he opted against the surgery. I'm not trying to make him sound like a bad ass, by the way; he's an enormous idiot. But, I am trying to suggest that maybe Rey's isn't that bad/completely torn and he'll get back in the ring before Wrestlemania XXVIII.
The ACL and MCL are different. The ACL is (typically) much worse and you could potentially tear your meniscus when you tear your ACL/MCL (which I didn't, but it makes the injury ten times worse if you did). I still don't know how Rey even did the match against Del Rio with his injuries. Hoping around on a torn ACL/MCL is not very smart. After Raw was over (I was there), refs were helping him to the back and you could see he was limping badly.

I get that Rey loves this, but being able to walk when he is 50 is more important than going for just 2 more years. I do want him to comeback to have one last send-off because he deserves it. If he does face Sin Cara, I hope its a respect match. That way it would be very easy to build and Rey could finish off his career in a good way (It could even be the thing that finally gets Sin Cara over). If these are his last few years, then I don't want him to turn heel because it just wouldn't be worth it now.

it's a shame but i expect rey to make a return to put over sin cara at wrestlemania. with raw now losing the number 2 face (cm punk isn't really a full face) someone needs to step it up. the only candidate who's remotely close to being on the right level for a push like that is jomo. i'm not saying to make him world champ, just show what he can do in main events

I don't think he's gone for good, but this is likely to be the beginning of the end. My prediction... he hangs it up at Wrestlemania 28 since that's the fashionable place to retire these days.

Meh, it was a matter of time anyway. I dont know why the fuck he doesnt just retire, he cant go 16 months without getting hurt and having to suffer through surgery and rehab, and he squabbles with the WWE over getting time off pretty regularly anyway.

Just do one or two more big money matches, and ride off into the sunset, bud.

I'm no Sin Cara fan at all, but I do realise WWE has a lot of stock in Rey because he sells masks to kids and draws in a large Mexican fanbase.
The only reason I suggested Sin Cara should take his place, is because WWE will want a replacement wrestler who can draw a large Mexican fanbase and sell masks...

He's been wrestling with buggered knees for aslong as he's been in WWE, this is nothing new. as much as i respect what he's done to promote the little guys, maybe it's time for him to hang up the boots.

Mysterio's injuries keep happening within shorter timeframes. It may be time for him to call it a career. There are only so many surgeries one can do. I think he will be back to work a Wrestlemania angle but this next run might be his last. It would be a perfect opportunity to pass the luchador torch to WWE's new masked hero Sin Cara because I cannot possibly think of a better final feud for Rey. He has little left to prove and I don't see him lasting much longer. I'm not going to miss him much while he is gone.

ACL and MCL?

So you're telling me that he somehow wrestled for 10 minutes with the ligament that connects your 2 leg bones on the inside of his knee torn and ALSO tore the ligament that connects the 2 bones on the inner side of his knee and provides stability? No, pretty much physically impossible. It's not a "well if he has enough heart thing" it's a "if you don't have any tires on the left side of your car no matter how much you hit the gas it's not going anywhere" mechanical failure type of situation.

For a better idea of it, I'll have to educate some people. Here are some terms:
Anterior-front
Posterior-back
Medial-towards the middle of your body
Lateral-towards the outside of your body

In the knee you have 4 major ligaments (plus some others but we'll stick to the common injury ones and their counterparts). The Anterior Cruciate ligament. This is the ACL. The Posterior Cruciate Ligament, this is the less known PCL. The Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and the Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL).

To imagine the ACL and PCL, make a fist with each hand. Touch then like you are fist bumping yourself. Twist one fist around so that your palms are in opposite directions. Stick both middle fingers out and "attach" them to the opposing fist. This is basically what the ALC and PCL are like. They are at the bottom of your femur (upper leg bone) and the top of your tibia (lower leg bone).

To imagine the MCL and LCL, hold your hands out straight and put them on either side of one of your knees. This is basically how they work.

If neither one of those worked to visualize what's going on, there's always google image search.

The reason you hear more MCL and ACL injuries is because to injure the ACL, it's an inward buckling of the knee. It stretches out the ACL on the front of the inside of your knee and it breaks. If the buckling is inward enough and at a sharp enough angle, it can also tear the MCL when it stretches too far. A PCL injury would be like a hyper extension of the knee I believe, like your knee getting knocked backwards. A LCL injury would be your leg buckling outward.

Of course there is also the miniscus, which is basically a pad between the 2 leg bones, and the pateller tendon, which runs from your patella (knee bone) to your lower leg bone.

So as you can see by this description, it'd be next to impossible for Mysterio's legs to function had he torn both his MCL and ACL. He pretty much wouldn't be able to stand much less climb the top rope or spring off the ropes.

I COULD be wrong, my area of "expertise" is more fitness. I'm not a doctor, it just doesn't make structural sense to me.

My guess is that he needs his knee scoped out. Probably a minor miniscus problem or maybe even just to remove scar tissue that could be creating friction and pain in his knee joint. He's had what? Roughly 70 billion knee surgeries? I bet every once in a while he needs his knees "cleaned out" to keep them functioning.

My other guess is he's ready for Raw in Mexico City.
