Mysterio/Cara Heel Turn?

On the home page, there is a small article claiming that while there are plans for Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara match at Wrestlemania 29, there are also plans to turn one heel. My opinion is this:
-Neither Mysterio nor Cara should have to turn Heel. For one, that wouldn't work too well, and it would be a horrible move.
-A nice face vs. face match just for pure competition is always one of the best things to see. So instead of planning a Heel vs. Face match between the two (which I think would look bad), why not have Face Mysterio vs. Face Cara? That would be interesting to see.

So, my question is simple. What are your thoughts on the plans to turn either heel? And would you like to see this match actually take place?

For me it is kind of a toss up. Rey Would be a good heel he has done it before however for money wise it is stupid, Rey is a huge babyface and loved, However he will be loved my the Mexican community. Which I don't know why since he is from Tijuana, Mexico but claims San Diego is his hometown.

But honestly they are both on borrowed time Cara will be let go within 2 years and Rey will be to hurt to wrestle within the next 2 years. So either way it is a stupid idea for both, Vince wants to have the mask record but I think no matter what they do it will suck and fail unless they are giving away the masks.

The only way you could pass the torch from Rey to Cara in my eyes is for Rey to turn heel. The fans love him so much that if he turned he'd become such a strong and despised character. I think if you want Cara to properly get over, you need someone generating that kind of heat up against him. A heel turn for Cara would bury him in no time.

All that being said, the fact of the matter is that Cara hasn't really impressed since he debuted. I think using a heel Mysterio against Cara would be a waste of a big payoff, since Cara lacks the ability to put on a high profile match with anyone larger than himself. Too many botches and pointless flash antics, no consistency or flow.

I think this idea can work. It can be a good match if both guys were face. You don't necassarily need a heel in this match. It should be done, because it's been a while since we saw a good lucha libre style match between two actual luchadors. I don't think Rey makes a good heel. He's a legit good guy and a real sweetheart. His legacy should'nt be tarnished by a weak heel turn.

No way will a Rey heel turn work he way too over as a face for the fans to boo he has been in wwe since 2002 and was over from the second he stepped in a wwe ring hhe is loved by everyone esp the kids and he has one of the biggest sales with his masks etc..

as for sin cara it would work better but still a bad idea a face vs face is perfect or these two a see who better match a match just about respect

Turning Rey heel isnt a bad idea for the time being to get Sin Cara over. They can make it as Rey playing teacher to student showing tough love in the end so he can go back to being face. For promos if ADR spits with Ricardo he can be SinCara translator. Let it begin around Rumble time and finish at Wrestlemania

I do like the idea of a face vs face match for pure competition & just letting the audience decide who they want to win.

But I don't see why they wouldn't turn Rey heel. He has been nothing but a boring & bland face since he came to the company. I think almost everyone will agree Rey is a great in ring competitor but has never been very interesting outside of the ring. Something fresh for him could really help spice up his current return & add some new dimensions to his character before he walks away from WWE.

Also let's be honest if it is Rey vs Sin Cara...they are basically just the same guy except for Rey is ALOT more well known, is(or was) a better athlete, doesn't botch, & speaks english. If WWE wants Sin Cara to be the one getting the majority of the crowd support, they will NEED to turn Rey heel.

I agree with the face vs face with the match based on competition. Mysterio being a heel doesn't make sense and he has so many young fans and when it seemed like Sin Cara turned heel when it was Hunico it was odd because at first he didn't talk and it would be challenging being a heel if you don't have an verbage whatsoever. I think they want to build Sin Cara to be Mysterio so I think turning Sin Cara heel would defeat the purpose.

They need a third party in there. If someone manipulated Sin Cara into fighting Mysterio that could work. Or if a heel got control over Sin Cara to fight Mysterio similar to what JBL did with Shawn Michaels. But ya turning one straight up heel I think would be counter productive.

If this is one of the matches on the card u have to turn Sin Cara heel because Sin Cara needs to be despised because for so long all they have talked about is a Rey vs Sin Cara match and what a great way to start a feud then at the rumble where they get tagteam title shots and Sin Cara does the Owen Hart method and lets Rey get beat up and helps him up only to attack him and leave him for dead and lets his jelousy get the better of him and challenge Rey to a mask vs mask match at wrestlemania and costs Rey the world title at elimination chamber by attacking him before the match and taking his spot and keeps attacking Rey till wrestlemania when Rey defeats him and takes his mask and passes the torch on to Sin Cara and Sin Cara turns face and they embrace each other and Rey retires after the match

I definitely see it as a face vs. face match. Both Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara are super over as faces that it would be pointless to turn one of them just for this match.

The scenario I have pictured is that they eventually win the WWE Tag Team Championships and hold on to them for a good while. Around the time of the Royal Rumble, either Sin Cara eliminates Mysterio or vice versa, since it's every man for himself. This builds up tension and causes them to lose the titles. But neither one really turns heel. This leads to WrestleMania in a mask vs. mask match, which would definitely draw money. Sin Cara would win, thus having the torch passed to him. Afterwards, they shake hands and become friends again.

I think this storyline with Mysterio can really help Sin Cara in his transition. Sin Cara's tenure in WWE has been lukewarm at best. The WWE really hurt Sin Cara by not placing him in FCW for a while, to help transition to the WWE style of wrestling as well as help him in learning English. Perhaps by sticking him with Mysterio, it will provide Sin Cara with a mentor to help him succeed in the WWE.

I definitely see it as a face vs. face match. Both Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara are super over as faces that it would be pointless to turn one of them just for this match.

i wouldn't really say sin cara is super over, most his matches, he hardly ever gets a crowd reaction. Mysterio on the other hand is def super over as a face. Everything else you said i totally agree with.

To be completely honest, I don't think there needs to be a turn. As Scarred One said, they're both immensely over as faces, and there have been several face vs face matches that have worked out well (Orton Christian before he turned, 'Taker Shawn). I see it as the kind of match where Mysterio thinks that he needs this match, to verify himself, to tell himself he's still got it. And if he loses to Sin Cara, he would pass the torch, have a good sendoff, and retire. If one HAD to turn, it would have to be Cara. I feel that Rey has more of a connection with the fans, and turning him would be disastrous.

I agree. I don't see the point of turning either man heel just for the sake of developing a story between the two. A good, respectable face vs face match just for the sake of competition is always good.

It worked for Eddie and Rey for WrestleMania 21. They were both loved faces and had an amazing opening match on the biggest stage of them all. You don't always need heel vs face to make things work.

I read something about this a few days ago. According to reports, there are plans to put the tag titles on Mysterio & Cara as part of a build up to their WM match. If that is the plan, then I'd rather see them have a fairly long run with the titles, such as maybe winning them at the next ppv, rather than have a lame duck run in which they just have the titles briefly and drop them.

As far as a heel turn for one of them goes, I have to admit that I'm a little intrigued. Mysterio has been a pretty beloved babyface for a long time in WWE and his merchendise sells well, especially among younger fans, so I can understand reluctance to turn him. At the same time, I find myself curious as to whether or not being a heel could inject some real personality into him. Mysterio is pretty bland in terms of personality so maybe a heel turn could be a pleasant surprise. It's not something I'd bet on, but I think if Mark Henry can become as interesting as he became, then I certainly think there's a chance for Mysterio to be an interesting heel.

What I could see happening revolves around something simple, like maybe one or both of them becoming somewhat envious of each other to the point where it gets a little competetive. They try to show up the other during their matches. After all, Mysterio has been the only luchadore in WWE for a very very long time and maybe he could feel "threatened" by Sin Cara. Ultimately, the suspicion leads to resentment that could lead to a double cross that results in Cara losing the titles to opponents down the line.

If Sin Cara has managed to get a grasp on English, then I could see a heel turn for him. The WWE could go with the angle of him being the young, up & coming guy that feels the aging Mysterio is holding him back, that he's not quite what he once was and that it's time to step aside. Sin Cara is much blander than Mysterio in terms of personality and he's just not connecting with audiences like Mysterio has. With the way things currently stand with Sin Cara, with him being the faceless & silent masked man from Mexico, he can only go so far. If he's not ultimately able to connect with fans as a character, then he's not going to ultimately be able to take Mysterio's place no matter how much the WWE might want it.

Keeping the match as a competetive, face vs. face contest could work as well. I don't look for this match to garner a ton of attention in terms of build or hype. Reportedly, the WWE is talking about Triple H vs. Lesnar II happening at WM or Taker vs. Lesnar. It's expected to also be Cena vs. Rock II at WM, but there's also a possibility of putting them in seperate matches. That all ultimately depends on whether The Rock will be free to wrestle. At any event, Mysterio vs. Cara won't be a major money match for the show, so the WWE could get away with keeping both as a face without the worry of fans not being interested because keeping them both face would probably mean a lack of character development for one or both.

What are your thoughts on the plans to turn either heel?

F4Wonline.com is reporting there have been discussions of turning one of them heel. The leading idea was for Mysterio to turn heel and help get momentum for Cara.

While it has been talked about, there are many who feel it would be a bad move to turn Mysterio heel.

I think it's a terrible idea to turn either heel, ESPECIALLY Mysterio. There's every reason for many to feel that it would be a bad move to turn one of them heel. Turning one heel could potentially hurt merch sales, with the kids buying their masks and all.

Like the OP and most of the people in this thread, I don't see why a Face vs. Face Match couldn't work between Mysterio and Cara. Having a Face vs. Face Match has been underused lately, with WWE's intention of at least having one side as the heel in a feud, and it would be fresh seeing one in a PPV, let alone WrestleMania.

And would you like to see this match actually take place?

As for if I'd like to see this match actually take place, as much as I think it's too soon and think it's being forced for them to have a match, Mysterio may not have much time left in the WWE, given his current age and his condition as an injury-prone superstar. And although I could care less about Cara getting a push (due to his botching), this match HAS to take place sooner than later, if they want Mysterio's help.

If one of em was gonna turn heel, I feel it should be Cara. Mysterio is just too babyface & loved by the fans to pull off being a heel, plus some people seem to forget that he was a heel back in WCW during the Filthy Animals run, and he wasn't very good. And if the WWE has a problem with turning Cena heel because of the kids & the merchandise he sells, the last thing they will do is turn Mysterio heel for the same reasons.

I believe Cara was actually a major heel once back in Mexico, and there are some things that Cara has done off-screen that just makes him scream heel (pulling a gun on Del Rio, taking the Mistico name from Hunico, getting suspended, refusing to learn English when asked by the E'). I don't think Cara needs to learn English aswell as Jack Hammer said, they could just pair him up with Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez, and from time to time, he uses Rodriguez as his translator while he remains a 'Silent Assassin'. What better way to get heat for him than pairing him up with one of Mysterio's greatest WWE rivals and having the ever so annoying Ricardo Rodriguez by your side to help you in your matches & speak for you.

But I'm with the people that say they should both be faces for the match. This is the Mexican version of Austin vs. Rock, it could work & likely be better with both of them as faces.

Yeah they need to just let this one be a Face Vs Face match. If they have any hope for Sin Cara to get over then why not let him (as a face) beat Rey in Rey's finally match. There is no reason to turn either one heel. No one will buy Rey as a heel at this point in his carrer and no one will care if Cara is a heel. Just let them both be faces and put on a good 10-15 minute match and hope by then people care about Cara.

From a competition standpoint it would be great to see these two light up the night at WrestleMania. If they can both stay healthy, a Rey vs Cara match would be a nice way to start the show, kind of how the old WCW did on Nitro a lot. Have the cruiserweights start the night off and get the crowd excited! Face vs face would work with these two.

If they do this and they need a heel for it, which they don't, then Cara should be the heel. Rey is just too small to play a convincing heel it would just come as him doing what he needed to do to get the win, similar to Ric Flair later in his career. I say give them the tag titles at either NOC or Survivor Series, then have them lose them at RR and have Cara "injure" Rey and team up with Vikcie or Ricardo and ADR. Rey makes his return, put on a good match with a lot back and forth and then Cara goes for the injured limb of Rey and gets win retiring Rey Mysterio. Too bad Chavo left, he and Rey should have been each others last match.

I would be interested in seeing this match, and I have always wondered what Rey would be like as a heel in WWE. I don't remember his heel run with the Filthy Animals being all that good in WCW. I don't think they would turn him heel any way because of the kids, and the buying of the masks and other merchandise. If they had to turn one heel I think Sin Cara could make a good heel. Kinda of an Anti Rey, but to do that he would need to be better with his English. Overall though I don't think a turn is necessary here. If they wanted Rey to "pass the torch", it could easily be done with a face vs face match.

For as long as I have been watching WWE, I have always wondered how WWE would effectively book a Rey Mysterio heel run. He's been in the WWE for 10 years now, and they have never tried turning Rey heel. Granted, that during the past 6 years or so, he's had some issues staying healthy, but I believe that WWE may know that Rey Mysterio would likely have a hard time getting over as a heel. Which is why I believe it would be a dumb idea to turn him heel now, when he likely won't remain an active WWE superstar for too much longer.

Sin Cara, on the other hand, would likely make a more believable heel than Mysterio. However, I don't really like that idea much either. If Sin Cara, is in fact being built to be the "Rey Mysterio of the future", so to speak, he should be the beloved superstar Rey Mysterio has been. That is, even if Sin Cara is only a heel for this particular feud.

So, I still think that if WWE is looking for a Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara feud, it would still be just as, if not more, enjoyable if both men remained face. It would show that both have mutual respect for each other and the feud would be more believable, especially with these two.
