Most Fitting Theme's, HHH on top?

Dayno

Occasional Pre-Show
So we all know a superstars theme song can end up being defining, and central to their character (e.g. Stone Cold). My question isn't about who has the best theme, but what are some of the most FITTING theme's to a Wrestlers character?

I just can't get over how well King of Kings fits HHH right now. Everyone's hating on him for apparently single-handedly destroying everything ever, but as soon as I hear, "Behold the king, the king of kings," I can't stop laughing at how well it fits into his current persona as the top dog.

So what do you think?

Edge's theme Metalingus by Alter Bridge is pretty persona fitting. Like, I feel like that song was written for him, but I know it wasn't.
The Goldust theme has always been fitting. Weird, Hollywood-ish.
HHH's theme The Game is also very fitting when he's a face.

I'm sure there are a few more. But on the flip side, Cult of Personality for CM Punk has never made sense to me, and I think he just wanted to make the WWE pay for licensing. But, when he had the Killswitch theme, I thought, man, this guy's theme is spot on for his character. Just my opinions, though.

I think both themes fit his character perfectly. The face, pre-SES CM Punk really matched him because he was an underdog type character. The post MITB CM Punk really fits 'Cult of Personality" as the entire song is about not submitting yourself to any single person or corporation. It fit his whole rebel anti-hero character he's had going on for awhile.

I'd say most fitting is a toss up between Undertaker's (obvious one), CM Punk's (both of them), HHH's, and Ziggler's. I just went with ones I can think of that are on the active roster right now.

It's been a while since I have wrote something on this forum, but the topic of themes is a very interesting topic to me.

I feel that some themes are outdated with the character, for instance, John Cena's.
When John debuted that theme song, it was when he became the new face of WWE.
"Your time is up, my time is now" had a lot to do with Cena at that moment (2006 was his rise, when he was beating the top dogs (HHH, HBK, etc.) After seeing the promo on RAW where he mentioned new stars emerging, hes no longer that "rising star" he already has his place as the face. But pretty soon, his time will be up. But the instrumental itself DOES fit his character, his persona, etc. The lyrics don't make sense for his character now. It's outdated.

Same with Kofi Kingston's theme, it's pretty outdated for him, since he hasn't had that Jamaican gimmick for a long long time.

Now, if I would have to chose themes that are perfect for their character, I would have to say The Undertakers. Its bone chilling, from the moment you hear the first "dum!" till he enters the ring... It's the most perfect theme.

Currently, I feel the Wyatts have an amazing theme for their character. It's a mysterious theme song for mysterious, creepy men. Bray Wyatt is going to be the next big creep of the WWE, and that theme suits him perfectly.

I find it nearly impossible to put anyone's theme higher on the list than the Undertaker's - a theme-gimmick combination can't fit together any better than that IMO.

But if we're talking about people we see weekly, than King of Kings is definitely up there as well as the Shield for me. I know it sounds like a generic guitar riff but I think it sounds tough and with the words in the beginning you know something serious is about to happen and business is about to pick up.

I'm throwing out Line in the Sand for Evolution. Obviously the motorhead theme with HHH worked really well, but i just thought the whole thing was spot on. Iconic, epic and fitting for each of the four members.

I always thought Orton's post Evolution theme was very fitting after they turned on him, and Khali's theme is very fitting cause its terrible.

Just to try to name a few new ones

Henry's theme was really fitting during his monster heel push, like he was there to do exactly what the song said and man did he do it.

HBK's was really fitting too during his younger days since he looked like the hot guy all the girls wanted, not so much when he got older, married and found religion maybe but I don't have any idea what to change it into anyway.

Orton's Burn in my light theme was fitting since he was obviously the raising star, Voices was great too when he was doing the crazy stuff like punting the Mcmahons.

Benoit's was like him, not fancy but still intense.

Eddie's lie, cheat and steal theme worked great for his WWE title run when he was literally doing all those things yet still as a face.

And just for one more JBL's theme was really fitting during his title run, especially during his Cabinet stable. Like for a rich president type role that theme was perfect.

HHH always has had incredibly fitting themes to be honest. You can tell he's always had the pick of his. King of kings right now is perfect.

For me though, its got to be Jericho. His theme, though very befitting of him due to lyrics anyway, was ideal. The pacing, the tone and the fact that Jericho added to it with his allatoya of rock n rolls nickname made it truly ideal.

Honourable mentions:
Takers "death march"
Zigglers "Perfection"
Bray Wyatt's "odd hillbilly schtick".
Ortons "voices".

Themes I don't feel work:
I have never felt The flight of the Valkyries, remixed or not, fits Bryan. It just seemed odd.
I also feel this tag team remix music is not fitting at all and just silly. Goldrhodes music is awful and should be got rid of.

Currently I think The Wyatt's theme is perfect.

Triple H's is fitting with his current role as well.

I think The Real Americans song somehow just goes with the gimmick.

Of course there is Taker and his song. Song fits the gimmick perfectly.

Brock Lesnar's song is right on point. It starts with some kind of horrific metalic/beastly screech and then an intense marching type beat that picks up as he gets closer.

Mysterios in the sense that it's a bunch of childish bullshit.

Kurt Angle's in the past is an obvious choice as well as SCSA's, Kane'S(att the time), DX's, The Rock's right after he left the Nation, Val Venis's, actually most people from the attitude era.

I've always been a fan of Lesnar and Shamrcock's themes. It suited Lesnar before but even more so that he went to the UFC. Their music gave the impression that they were there to beat the crap out of people.

I've always liked both Punk's themes. "This Fire Burns" was perfect for him at the time: he was passionate and this was his opportunity. Then, after his pipebomb, he had effectively made it so he changed it to "Cult of Personality". Perfect. Punk was the best in the world. He was this guy who cut an awesome promo in his sleep. It just worked.

For me, to have a fitting and great theme, the theme has to have that recognizable sound right at the very beginning. You know, as soon as you hear the very first second of the theme you know exactly who it is. Those, IMO, have always been the best and most fitting themes.

Stone Cold's theme was always very fitting to his persona. When a wrestler heard that glass, he knew it was his ass. Of course The Undertaker's theme fits his character to a freaking t. As soon as I hear the infamous, "GONG", chills shoot down my spine. Cult of Personality was very fitting for CM Punk as well during his whole Summer of Punk thing. The static at the very beginning of that theme is like the glass for Austin. Those are my top three picks.

Honorable mentions go to The Rock, HBK, Batista, Trips, Big Show, and Jericho.

Mark Henry's music is pretty damn spot-on. At least when he's a heel.

"Somebodies gonna get their ass whipped, break his neck, break his neck" playing in the background as he comes down the ramp smiling and giving high fives to kids doesn't really come off as well as when he just looks like he is pissed at the world.

I also feel this tag team remix music is not fitting at all and just silly. Goldrhodes music is awful and should be got rid of.

I'm trying to think of one of those mashups of two entrance songs that actually sounded good, and I can't.

Other than Kane-Xpac where it wasn't really a mashup, just Kane's beginning organ thing then straight into "Break it down.."

Cult of Personality was perfect for Punk and his post pipebomb character. I am sure it was one of his "perks" as Vince hates paying for licensed music but he perhaps hated it more as it was as much a rib on Vince... You could almost fit McMahon into it after Kennedy and it still work. But the key to ring music is that when it hits, it lifts the crowd and "Cult" does that everytime you hear that mic crackle...

The Wyatts have the best currently along with Axel, the variation on his father's music is pretty much spot on.

There is something about classical music that just lifts a wrestler who uses it... Bryan started using Wagner because it was unique, they rocked it up as a concession no doubt but it DOES work for him, while if he does go to Mania I hope they ante up and get The Final Countdown for the night... his old theme would just fit perfectly if he is gonna win the title that night.

Triple H's best theme was Beethoven's Ode To Joy/9th in 1995/1996, it made him stand out...while many fans would only hear classical rubbish - there was a very definite shift and nod to "Clockwork Orange" in his character at the time, how he dressed, carrying the cane and becoming more ruthless and starting to ahem degenerate like Alex in the film.... it's subtle but it's there... and that music was an integral part of that in the movie... so using it was very clever. Once Motorhead took over one song became like another. Savage used Pomp and Circumstance to great effect, Flair wouldn't be Flair without Also Sprach Zarathusa and even The British Bulldog's use of Rule Britannia raised them up above the hum drum, often generic music of their era...

Gangrel's music remains perhaps in the best two Jim Johnston themes in terms of capturing a character just from the music... the whispered incantations, back masked guitars and gothic keyboards fit him perfectly. I'd put Mankind's dual themes as the best, the ominous, dread filled dirge replaced with a piano lullaby after he had won the match was scary as hell and made that Mankind character, who could have gone so wrong work.

Guys who they have got wrong right now are guys like Barrett - what IS that music he has, it's bloody awful....and even worse that a band like the Manic Street Preachers have said they will do him a new one if WWE let them. Kofi needs a revamp of all of his gimmick, but mainly his music...and iconic as it is, there is nothing remotely good in a 45 plus year old man prancing to the ring to a self sung theme proclaiming himself a "Sexy Boy"... Use the DX music or use nothing... The one that was short lived but bizarre was Cesaro's debut and them using an instrumental of "Chelsea Dagger" by the Fratellis... if they do turn him face, bring the proper version back as the chorus is pure "singalong" popular face territory... It was a very odd choice for a heel.

HBK, Angle, Gangrel, Taker, etc that all have mentioned. Perfect fit.

Some big ones people are forgetting: Million Dollar Man, Jerry Lawler & Roddy Piper. How anyone has not said those is beyond me.

Now the biggest one? You cannot get a more fitting theme for a wrestler than Hulk Hogan's Real American. You know from the first chord exactly what is coming & it instantly recalls some of the biggest memories in wrestling history. Nothing could have been more perfect & no theme will ever get a unanimous crowd response like that. It gets people pumped from young to old & if you dont feel a bit of a chill when that music hits- something may be wrong with you.

Jeri-Show I thought sounded great
Miz-Show Wasn't as good but not that bad either

And last(don't have time to check since I gotta leave) Rated RKO if memory serves wasn't that bad either

The one that springs to mind quickest for me is Eddie Guerrero - Lie, Cheat and Steal. It just fit his character perfect with the sort of Mexican sound to it and the lyrics as well were perfect for him. I also think of HBK - Sexy Boy. Sung by himself and the words fit his playboy, smug gimmick during the 90's.

Currently I'd go for CM Punk - Cult of Personality. Sounds so cool and just fit him perfectly during the summer of punk when he was like a cult leader for the IWC and old school attitude era fans.

The best theme in this case though has to be The Undertaker - Deadman. The best theme of all time in my opinion. The initial pop from the crowd when the gong sounds and then they just go silent when he's walking down the isle. It's eery and makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. The perfect theme.

The Undertaker has the greatest theme/entrance of anyone ever.

Being as that it has no words, I think it wins it.

You can put whatever words you choose in most songs, true. But Undertaker certainly has it.

Hogan's Real American is another obvious. Then I'd say Triple H.

This may be a bit off topic but I always loved how right after Brocks music started with his sound effect and right before the beat drops, Tazz would say "well here comes the pain" this just made his entrance so much better to me. As far as fitting themes goes, HHH and Taker are at the top of the list. One that I haven't seen mentioned, was The Rocks Hollywood heel theme. It just fit his character so well and was awesome. HBK, Punk, and Edge has also always had fitting themes. Hogans real American theme was good too. As far as worst non fitting themes, I gotta say Macho Man. I loved Savage but I was always confused by his theme song. IMO it just didn't fit him at all.

I think a few people have noticed it, but the impact start to the theme music really does grab you, and the superstars without such a hit suffer...

The best....
Undertaker - the gong!
SCSA - the glass
CM Punk - the Static
Brock - the guitar screech
HHH - guitar riff
Rock - if you smelllllllllllll....
Ziggler - GREAT open pop...his cash-in moment showcased that.
My favourite? The Wyatt's - that shout and lights going out, very decent to get a reaction!

there are stars who would benefic from a more intense "pop" for the entrance...examples I have..
Daniel Bryan - I think the violin start or whatever it is, is quite weak...the music is decent, but the pop at the beginnning doesn't make EVERYONE in the ring stop.
Shield - Again, good music, but I think it's quite a mellow pop.
Big Show - his music is SO dated now! no impact

Another side note, I'd be interested to hear the music they'd choose for Reigns when he eventually turns...it could certainly make a huge impact on how he is percieved and displayed by the WWE.

The obvious answer to this is the Undertaker's theme. Simple, iconic and represents the "Deadman" persona perfectly. His Ministry of Darkness version worked very well too, the theme was scary as hell with the voice coming in at the beginning and fitted in with the 'Taker's evil satanic character.

Hulk Hogan's "Real American" has lyrics which are spot on for Hulk's American Hero gimmick, fighting for the right of every man, talking about courage etc. It was what Hogan represented, WWE got that theme spot on, and it's instantly recognisable.

Kane's original theme with the organ at the beginning and then the explosion and demonic music was a great choice for the new, masked character. Add in the red lighting and the flames and you have a fucking incredible entrance for the Big Red Machine which struck fear into the hearts of his opponents.

Right To Censor had arguably the most annoying theme of all time, with the constant wailing of the siren but that was perfect for the faction, who were meant to piss you off with their crusade of censorship and to "clean up" the WWE. I hated the theme, hated the faction, but it worked.

The original nWo theme with the distortion and the crackling "nneeww neewww nnewww world orddeerrrrr", made it feel like the nWo was illegally hacking into the show, as WCW tried to make it look like the did with the "this announcement was paid for by the nWo". Plus, the black and white screen looked awesome, and stood out as something totally different.

There are many, many more but those were the first few that sprung to mind.
