Most ''emotional'' storyline ever!!!

Spawn of Kane

Dark Match Winner
Right, this is my first ever thread, so please forgive me if its been done before(although i couldn't find it) or if its in the wrong section!

I've decided to make this thread because ive recently been trawling the wwe/f archives and came across the Undertaker/DDP feud, where DDP attacked the Undertaker personally, even going as far as to break into Takers house and hold his wife Sara hostage.....and it got me to thinking!!

The feeling that must invoke on someones emotions (kayfabe or not) must be truly frightening, to know that a member of your family is at the mercy of a madman, hellbent on causing you pain and suffering.

So the point of this thread is simple....Which storyline has had you gripped the most because of the pure emotion tied to it???

For me personally just for all of the raw emotions attached to it, it has to be Edge & Lita vs Matt Hardy. From Matt ringing up Byte This! promoting a rival company and constantly telling his fans he will one day get his revenge, really got me engaged as at first it was a real life situtation.

The WWE took a big risk in booking them in a feud as although both were Adam and Matt are professional they was obviously some hatred within them as they were so close for so wrong. It could have just took one botched move or one wrong word and it could have snapped.

Thankfully Matt got his groove back as a hard worker and loyal employee and nothing has changed. Adam and Lita don't even go out anymore i dont think (don't know for sure) so that did'nt last long did it.

So this gets my vote basically.

for me it was Edge , Lita and Matt Hardy story Line because it was based on what was happening with the 3 out side of the wwe so that story got me shocked when I learnt that the story was really happenign it got me really angry at edge and made me hate lita. I was like 10 back then. So I didnt really see the entire problem.

For me it goes way back to the 80's and it involved Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Mr T.

they had a stroyling going that involved a couple of midget wrestlers dressed like them respectively and after Brutus' team beat Mr T's team, Brutus cut the hair of the Mr T midget screaming at him all the time "if you like Mr t so much why don't you look like him then...."

As an 8 year old at the time it had me in tears....

Mine would have to be when they played out the whole Roadwarrior Hawk (Legion of Doom) drinking angle. They had Hawk climb to the top of the Titantron and then fall of. It was a sad excuse of making fun of a wrestler's addiction problem. Especially when he is one part of your favorite tagteam of all time.

Savage-Elizabeth reunion at Wrestlemania 7 after Randy's career was finished.

It's not really a storyline.. more of a moment. Well...in a sense, I guess it was a culmination of years of problems between the two, but never an on-going storyline.

Anyways...that's my vote.

There have been lots of emotional storylines in wrestling. Angles that provoke some kind of emotional response. A few examples...

The re-uniting of Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth
Kane vs X-Pac over Terri Runnels
Vince vs Stephanie that became the start of the McMahon-Helmsley Era
Eddie Guerrerro vs Rey Mysterio over Domenic
DDP vs Undertaker when Page was stalking Sara
Tommy Dreamer's seemingly endless chase for th ECW Title
Hell, even New breed vs Old School ECW.

My favourite though was from a while back, in the old ECW. Raven vs Sandman.
This angle went on for ages. Raven brain washed Sandmans son into following him instead of his own father. He helped set up the Sandman, even attacked him, verbally, mentally and physically.
Raven would hold Sandmans son while Sandman stood crying, and you genuinlly felt for Sandman, as if he, and us, could do nothing to change what was going on, no matter how much we wanted to.

The main reason that I have picked this one is that ECW, Scott Levy, Jim Fullington and Paul Heyman were willing to take it so far. Normally in wrestling, this kind of angle lasts for a few weeks, this one went on for MONTHS!!! And never before or since has anyone taken it to the extremes that they did this time, and I don't think anyone ever will again.

A brilliant angle, carried out perfectly. Just watch old ECW footage if you disagree

The match that was most emotional to me was at the 1994 Royal Rumble when The Undertaker lost a casket match to Yokozuna. Once he was in the casket, they did this electrocution effect. I was ten at the time and didn't yet grasp the concept of wrestling being fake, so I thought it was real electricity and thought he was dead in real life. The fact that he took a long break from wrestling after that only fueled my speculation.

Though looking back, Undertaker being electrocuted in a casket makes no sense at all.

Mine has to be HHH vs RANDY ORTON build up to WM 25 . ORTON punting VINNIE MAC, then the next week punting SHANE and RKOing STEPH and later DDTing her and kissing her while HHH was handcuffed to the ropes. HHH breaking in ORTONS house. it was AMAZING build up not a great match but the build up like i said AMAZING and personal attacking someones family and a close seconds was UNDERTAKER-DDP where DDP is stalking SARA and EDDIE GUERRO-REY MYSTERIO over DOMINIC. i mean cant imagine what i would do if someone done either one of those to my family

My personal most emotional angle would definitely have to be Dallas Page and Mark Calaway, more know by all of you as The Undertaker. I use his real name, due to this fact that during this story his wife even referred to him as Mark. That's how personal it was, and being just a little kid around 8-9 when it happened I was terrified. A looking back at it now, i realize that this has to be the one I select because when Undertaker got his hands on DDP, I remember the fear being lifted of my shoulders. It's kind of ironic that a man uses the alias "The Undertaker" is a hero, but none the less, the only time I marked out more than that was when Eddie Guerrero won the WWE title for the first time. But I digress

My most emotional storyline? Well, it's a little similar to the original post, actually. The feud between The Undertaker and Steve Austin with Triple H had me going for a while -- purely because of one simple thing.

When Triple H and The Undertaker were in the middle of a match, Steve Austin came onto the Titantron, saying that Mark's wife had been involved in a serious car crash. I was a little kid at the time, watching this, and seeing how 'Taker just rushed out of the ring and left the building almost immediately after hearing this, it made me scared because I thought Sara would have ended up in a hospital. Then just to have the Two Man Powertrip come out to confront 'Taker later, saying that it had all been a set up. The whole thing just angered me so badly, I think it was the first time I really hated both Austin and Triple H.

Of course, I could have the details wrong -- it's been a LONG time since I've seen that quarrel, and I was probably only six or so at the time, so I might have things a little fuzzy. But still, that entire angle just pissed me off like no other, and made me pity 'Taker at the same time. I think that was the moment I really became a 'Taker fan. Haha.

How about the time on Superstars when Earthquake tied Jake Roberts to the ropes and did his finishing manuever to Damien.

Two feuds come to mind:

HBK/HHH up to S.S 2004. Man, all I can say is I never hated anyone more than HHH. Here's a guy who had a best friend named HBK, formed one of the greatest stables in the business, and beat his ass by running his head through a car window. Epic. Just epic. Great feud overall. Probably in the top 10 of the last decade for sure!

HHH/Orton: Guess I have a thing for Trips today. Greatest buildup in a while no question. Getting the family involved ain't that great in business, unless you involve McMahons. From the house invasion, to the infamous Canadian-banned DDT on Steph, and that kiss..god damn. Tis a shame, Orton lost at WM25. This alone would've made him the greatest heel since Triple H. (Ya, I said it, Trips was one of the greatest heels out there)

I'll throw in Mysterio/Guerrero, cause if you remember that day when Eddie turned heel. Holy Shit. Dude rips Mysterio's mask in half, exposing half mask, half crimson mask. (styll creeps me out to this day) HE missiles Mysterio into the steel post, gives him a duplex off the steel steps. Wow..talk about beef.

Nice topic.

Guess I am a bit older than most here...

First thought, Hulk, Savage, Liz... The birth then destruction of the Mega Powers. Savage helps Hulk, Hulk helps Liz, Savage thinks he is the third wheel... BAM! Wrestlemania V. Waaaaaay back when, Miss Elizabeth was probably a kid crush for all of us (come on admit it). The Hulkster was the Hulkster, and it was painful to watch the disintegration of what was the dream team of the time.

Second thought... When Shawn Micheals came out to the "Barber Shop", dressed in all black. A promo, a super-kick, and a window later, we no longer had the Rockers. Who didn't love the Rockers. They had great fueds with Strike Force, Demolition, etc.

Okay, now I really feel old heh.

And there you have it.

What little Kid wasn't devistated when Earthquake squashed Hulkamania on the Brother Love Show??????

YES! I can't believe someone mentioned this before I did. I cried. And cried when I seen this. And yes, I was a Hulkamaniac when I was a tyke. And that's why I didn't like John Tenta a.k.a. Earthquake. It legit looked like he was killing Hulk Hogan, not to mention it showing a little girl crying with a Hulkamania bear, which I HAD, along with a Hogan Wrestling Buddy. It was very gripping to kids during that time. It probably saved Hulkamania for another couple of years. That's how big it was and that's how emotional it was.

Same can be said for Flair vs. Vader. Flair said he would retire if he couldn't beat Vader, who was as dominant as any wrestler in history during this time. He manhandled Sting. Sting. The most over wrestler in WCW at the time. And Vader was also managed by Harley Race, who Flair beat for his most notable World Title win at the first Starrcade. So there was bad blood and some investment emotionally in watching Flair try to chop down the Mastadon.

hands down stone cold vs vince. the beer truck yall. the beer truck. he stunned sgt slaughter and was mocking doing push ups. he was getting locked up every week. classic. stone cold stunned his family. beat him up in a hospital. it doesnt get any more classic in that. attitude era

Gotta be Raven/Sandman angle that ECW did with the Sandman's son. You had to feel for Sandman throughout the entirety of that whole thing.

got another one. when hogan lost to undertaker at survivor series back in the day. people were crying. if you ever watch it look at the lower left corner where the main camara shoots, you'll see a guy that looks just like hogan literally crying. deeeep. watch it

I agree with a lot of the storylines brought up by all of you. However, there is one I haven't seen yet. I always thought the Kurt Angle/Stephanie/Triple H angle was very emotional back in 2000. You had the whole Triple H teaching Trish the "hammerlock." Then, Kurt Angle is clearly making the move on Stephanie, which lead to the big kiss on Smackdown. That turned Triple H into a semi-face right there because how many of us would want to bash the other guy's brains in if he was honing in on your girlfriend/wife? I thought the storyline hit a lot of different nerves comedically, emotionally, and professionally in the ring.

how about when vince was treating linda so wrong when she was tramatized. vince acted like he really didnt care for her. then at wrestlemania 17 she chose to help her son shane when he fought his pop.

This was a very emotional storyline from 97 to 98. Paul continuously taunting Taker saying his brother Kane is coming. Taker having to explain the death of his parents. Taker week after week refusing to fight Kane and then Kane chokeslamming him into his mother's casker. Kane pretending to befriend his brother only to turn his back on him at the Royal Rumble and set his casket on fire. Taker coming back from soothing the souls of parents by explaining to them that he must fight his brother. Their epic first battle at WM14 which then led to the first ever inferno match where Kane was once again surrounded by flames and set on fire by his brother. Then we find out that it was Paul Bearer's son whose hand was on fire. I mean that was an emotional storyline and was the first really emotional side of Taker we got to see. Those were some classic moments between those two.

but do you remember at one of the in your house ppv's, vince did something to jr's headset so you could bearly hear him. everytime jr would say something about it, vince and the king acted like they didnt know what was wrong but you could sense that they really did. that was either a great storyline or that was personal

Oh Dang, mine has to be the fued between Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall. WCW used the fact that Hall did have drinking problems, and Kevin Nash got sick of it, and called hall out, i think Nash was booker at the time. Point is both Hall and Nash showed so much emotion for this storyline it made it feel real.
