MMA in the Bar room!! *In memorium of JMT and TDigs' thread*

Rib injuries are no joke. I don't think we can say too much about Aldo without being in the camp itself.

Pity this has happened so much, something needs to be done about the way some of these gyms are training their fighters.

Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald should have been given some attention and not ignored like it has been during the build up to this event.

EDIT: Sport isn't dead as long as Rousey keeps winning. She's carrying this thing on her back.

Don't sleep on Jedrzejczyk. She's probably going to be more dominant in the strawweight division, than Rousey is/wil be in the bantamweights. She's already beaten the top contenders, and there's not much coming up. Maybe VanZant, but she is not in the same league as the champ at all.

The more I think about it, the more I think Aldo was on something and knew he was gonna get caught.

Otherwise, just take a numbing shot and fight. You know how much money he would make for this AND for the "but my rips were hurt!" rematch? Enough to retire on twice over.

To forgo that money for strained ribs? and NOT because you knew you would fail pre fight drug testing?

Please.

:lmao:

Another one of UFC's paper tigers. Has barely more business being in the UFC than CM Punk does.

For a league that is so haughty about what class they are in, they do some incredibly flimsy, transparent bullshit.

Jedrzejczyk would break VanZant in the first round and it would her decision when the fight ends.

Until that happens it's time to jump on the VanZant hype train and ride this thing out until she faces the wrath of the Jedi.

Vanzant wants NOOOO part of Jedi Joanna. Her only asset is that pretty face, and it damn sure ain't coming out the way it looked going in

Especially considering he's been openly critical of how he's been paid. If he keeps his shit up long enough, Dana will just get rid of him. Good luck making any money elsewhere.

I personally think she's alright. She's nowhere near Joanna's league, but she's probably going to be the 2nd best in the division. And, because she has a pretty face, UFC will protect her.

And I did say "maybe" :suspic:

From what I've seen, it looks like Aldo has a legitimate rib injury.

Fucking sucks the fight isn't happening, but it's the biggest fight of his career, against a man he hates and he has an injury that will prevent him from doing anything without feeling pain. Rib injuries REALLY suck.

I really don't blame him for pulling out, I'm let down that it happened, but I'm thinking this is legitimate.

Problem is that Aldo loves to cancel his fights. He's always got an excuse for why he cannot compete when he agreed to.

Torn MCL didn't stop Rafael dos Anjos from winning a World Championship.

I know he has a history of this, I don't want to defend him too much.. Not a big fan myself.

That said, reports coming out seem to indicate this is a legitimate fracture. I've injured my ribs before, couldn't do anything without feeling intense pain for a good while. Going into a world title fight, not only that, but against a fighter unlike anyone else he has faced.. I really don't blame him for wanting to heal up first.

The fight will happen eventually at least.

I had the displeasure of browsing the sherdog forums just before, the Aldo hate is on another level there.

I'm somewhat looking forward to seeing how Connor goes against a wrestler at least.

I should clarify I think there is definitely blame in Aldo's camp however.

Clearly there is an issue with how they are training, getting injured constantly so close to fight day is preposterous.

There seems to be way too much hard sparring in MMA, compared to Muay Thai fighters, it's surprising how lightly the fighters in that sport spar, but they managed to compete just as well if not better then MMA fighters, and the injuries are far less frequent.

I don't get why everyone wants to see how Conor handles coming up against a wrestler. In his fight against Max Holloway he had to spend two rounds on the ground with a torn ACL and did fine.

Sooooo pretty solid chance Mendes shitcans Connor tomorrow night, eh?

Im actually still pretty excited for it. A huge challenge to the untested UFC poster-boy

I think Conor's too big and strong. Mendes wrestling technique won't be enough to drag him down. Conor will light him up on the feet and KO him before the 3rd Round.

It's a good card but man am I still majorly disappointed Aldo backed out. If Nate Diaz was his replacement then it would have been an easier pill to swallow, but I just don't care about Mini Mendes and I really don't think he stands a chance. And if Mendes does win then that just leaves the division in a complete mess.

Meh, Aldo is a big too, and Mendes took him to the limit. We shall seeee

Conor looked like an AIDS patient at the weigh-ins today. I can't see him making 145 too many more times.

BTW guys, I wasn't able to chime in on the little convo you had on Paige VanZant a few days ago.... I really think you two were highly underestimating her. She has one of the most unique skillsets I've ever seen in MMA, and her last opponent was no pushover. The girl is only 21. She won't be ready for Joanna until after a couple of more fights, but trust me when I say Paige is much more than just a pretty face and will be a force for women's MMA for many years to come.

Alright there, Dana McMahon :lmao:

Fuckin live performance elevator thingy entrances. Between this, mcgregors push, and the criminal reebok deal, the UFC and their fans arrogance gets more and more laughable. You aren't any better than any other scumbag promoter, or promotion.

Great performance by McGregor. I'm glad, now I can feel free to like him.

Awesome fight for Lawler and Mcdonald, though Rogan needs to fucking cool it. His shilling and hyperbole would make Tony Schiavone and Don West proud

"This....isn't just a fight....this....is about Ireland"

Vomit. All over.

Awesome card today, the co main event stole it. Props to both Rory and Robbie. Vicious fight and watching Rory's body break down like that was tough, made me a fan though.

I hope he recovers, that was the type of fight that can lead to a downward spiral.

Edit - Christ... on that note. I just found this gif. This is a tough moment to watch, I don't remember seeing it on TV..

This was honestly one of the best UFC events ever, if not the best ever. Starting with the main prelim fight between Matt Brown vs. Tim Means, to every single fight on the main card.... they all delivered. Excellent fights, brutal knockouts, blood in nearly all of them.... this was a great night for MMA, which is amazing to me considering I thought it was going to be one of the most disastrous in history after Aldo pulled out.

Anyway, I'll never say another bad word about Chad Mendes again. Kid is tough as nails, is good in every aspect of the game, and on top of all that is just an all around class act.

But McGregor showed his worth last night. His chin is unbelievable. To shrug off Mendes' punches like that, when multiple were landed flush at full power... I mean, it's just remarkable. Conor's body work was incredible too, as was his boxing. Wrestling lacks more than I thought it would, but it didn't matter. He protected himself well on the ground and kept himself out of danger. A fantastic performance all around and I have very little doubt that if Aldo showed up last night that McGregor would have punished him.

Lawler/MacDonald was one of the most brutal fights ever. Just disgusting. Rory looked like something out of The Walking Dead at the end of it, while Robbie's lip was grotesque. Just... ugh, what a war. And both guys showed tremendous heart. Got ultimate respect for both, although Rory is still a weird creep.

Dana has to make GSP an offer he can't refuse. GSP vs. Robbie has to happen.

I actually missed all of the prelims except Matt Brown/Tim Means, so it was seriously perfect timing. Everything from that point on was stellar. Just a great, great show. Props to the all the fighters from last night. They deserve nothing but the utmost respect.

Some of those punches that landed on Conor were insane, and even more insane in that he took them like he did.

I really hope Aldo is next, and something doesn't happen again. That is coming from a die hard Frankie Edgar fan.. I think Frankie would be too much for Conor, but I want to see what Aldo can do first.

I had said she was pretty good. I don't think she's world class, but, as you said, she is only 21. And as for "years to come", that is only if she decides to remain in MMA for any length of time. I know she has a passion for it, but she has such a broad background that there's going to be chances to do anything other than get punched in the face.

Edit - Christ... on that note. I just found this gif. This is a tough moment to watch, I don't remember seeing it on TV..

Bloody hell...

I didn't get to watch, but read through the results, and saw some highlights, and it looked like a hell of a show. Hope to catch it in the future.

Fedor could be returning to fighting again.

Werdum vs. Emelianenko II for the title would be the way to go.

So apparently pissing Rousey off by making fun of the fact that her dad committed suicide is not a very good strategy... unless you're trying to get her to knock you the fuck out :lmao:
