MMA in the Bar room!! *In memorium of JMT and TDigs' thread*

She'll be with a new coach for her next fight. Her mum is going to raise all kinds of hell because of this.

I don't know if it's the biggest upset ever. Ronda has horrible striking and Holm is an elite boxer with great kicks. It's top three but I wouldn't put this above GSP/Serra.

Classic case of poor tactics by Rousey meeting great tactics by Holm. This reminded me a lot of an Anderson Silva fight during his heyday.

Holly Holm worked a stick-and-move gameplan, trying to avoid chest-to-chest exchanges that favor grapplers over boxers. The basic strategy against that kind of fighter is to stand back and force them to come to you, allowing you to dictate the distance the exchanges are at. Rousey kept rushing into Holly Holm's range, and Holm landed clean shots almost every time.

The rematch will be interesting, because Ronda Rousey won't approach the fight in the same way. The Ronda Rousey gravy train, however, has gotten significantly drier.

The worst part of this is the Rousey haters will really never shut up now. Not that they would've if she won either.

Ronda beats her in the rematch though.

I think we get Holm vs. Tate early next year and then Holm vs. Rousey II at UFC 200. Rousey retires following UFC 200 and starts wrestling.

This seems like the logical path here. We all knew a loss was coming, and most even knew it would be this kind of opponent. We just didn't think it would be this one. Holm has been on fire, she was the better woman, and deserved the win. That was a hell of a kick to end it. The kind that would have ended it, no matter who controlled the duration of the fight. It only takes one strike, and we saw that tonight.

Holm v Tate will be a much better title fight than Rousey v Tate anyway, I think.

Based on the way Rousey and the Australian media have carried on this week I had that feeling this would happen, actually tried to have a bet on it too but the app on my phone didnt have a ufc/mma section ffs

I don't want to live in a world where Ronda Rousey isn't undefeated.

For all we know, she could still have a long career and retire at 22-1. We'd still remember this loss, but it's early enough in her career that it may not matter in the scheme of things.

There's no way Mayweather can count higher than ten.

He can at least count to potato, right?

No way Rousey has 23 fights. It was going to be 6 more and then she's done but with this loss I think we are looking at 2-3.

I don't think she would have a long career either, but this could make her hungry to prove the critics wrong, where she goes on a long tear just defeating anyone who steps in front of her. And, with the schedule she's had, barring injury, she could do 10 more fights in 2-3 years.

Rousey has been talking about retirement a lot lately. If she had won then I think we would have got her vs. Cyborg for the title at UFC 200 followed by her retirement. This loss eliminates vs. Cyborg and creates Holm vs. Rousey II for the title at UFC 200 after Holm wrecks Tate in March.

I think we get the retirement after UFC 200. I would like to see a couple more fights but at this point she doesn't need it. If you're not fully invested than it's best to walk away. As I said earlier, I think 2-3 fights are possible but that's the best result. One final fight for the title at the biggest UFC event ever seems far more likely.

I don't really follow MMA much, but wasn't Rousey pretty much a lock to win, and they were just throwing challengers at her before they were really ready? If so, then that's a huge surprise.

Ronda getting knocked the fuck out has made my day honestly. She was becoming a total narcissistic asshole who badly needed to be humbled and realize she isn't untouchable at all. The fact that she refused to tap gloves with Holm as the fight started was only the icing on the cake when she got exactly what was coming to her.

Hopefully this humbles her and she realizes she isn't the hot shit she thinks she is. The only reason she was undefeated before this is because the talent and depth of women's MMA is in it's total infancy.

I also read something about Nick Diaz saying Ronda just made one little mistake, um, no Nick she got outclassed that entire fight.

She was outclassed and looked awkward from the second the fight began. Her footwork was practically non-existent and Holm's excellent footwork just made it that much more noticeable. Once Holm started throwing those straight lefts, Rousey's spirit was broken and she spent that last few minutes of the fight practically chasing a ghost.

The fight kind of reminded me of Anderson Silva versus Forest Griffin. All of those dodged shots and counters; Rousey was dominated in every possible way a fight could be dominated.

It felt like she was completely unprepared and figured she would just come in, flip someone in the air and it would be done, like always. I half way expected her to stop mid-fight and yell "Hey!! Don't you know im Rhonda Rousey? What are you doing?!" at Holm.

She looked so sloppy and desperate it was almost pathetic.

It genuinely felt like she just has way, way too much going on, in general. Truly shocking all around.

I think Rousey's biggest weakness was exposed. If Rousey can't close distance on her opponents and they have solid striking, she's as good as dead.

What surprised me the most was the fact that her head coach is a BOXING coach. Outside of Judo, boxing has been her main skill. You see her in practice and she smashes the pads but I guess things are a little bit different when those bags are replaced by real people. With brains. Who like to move out of the way of punches.
