Here is the list of all 33 starters for the Midsummer Classic: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2011/roster_league.jsp
As happens every year during the All-Star game period, there's a decent amount of guys who are deserving but didn't get in, and guys who got in that really didn't deserve it. This is the thread to discuss who was snubbed/fortunate. I will begin with my picks, one from each league:
AL Biggest Snub: Paul Konerko. I agree with them having Cabrera and Gonzalez on the team as first basemen, but Paul could've been picked as the other DH and should've been ahead of his teammate that got in, Carlos Quentin. He still has a chance to get in via the Final Vote but it shouldn't have come to that.
AL Most Fortunate: Derek Jeter. Look, some people are complaining about Aaron Crow being the Royals selection, but the fact is he has been great (1.36 ERA/1.08 WHIP/.188 OBA) in almost 40 innings. Jeter, on the otherhand, made it on his reputation alone. He's 8th in the AL in BA and is there because he's on the Yankees. Jhonny Peralta, Yunel Escobar, and Alexi Ramirez are more deserving then him.
NL Biggest Snub: Andrew McCutchen. He's one of the few guys that can do it all both offensively and defensively and just because he's on the pirates and they normally only get one selection doesn't mean he shouldn't get in. He has a higher average and equal power numbers to Carlos Beltran, who's had a nice season but doesn't deserve it over McCutchen.
NL Most Fortunate: Brian Wilson. The guy has been good this year, but he's partially lucky that Bochy is the one making the selections with the pitchers because his WHIP (1.42) isn't that impressive, especially compared to Braves closer Craig Kimbrel, who has a lower WHIP and ERA and just as many saves. The Beard has been solid, but there's a few guys I'd pick before him. EDIT: Correction, he was voted on by the players. Still, not as deserving as Kimbrel.
