Mike Conley is the Highest Paid NBA Player

Mike Conley is now the highest paid player in NBA history. How insane is that? Let's look at the numbers.

Last Season

Mike Conley - 17 pts, 2 reb, 6 ast, 1.2 stl, 0.3 blk
Lebron James - 25 pts, 7 reb, 7 ast, 1.4 stl, 0.6 blk

Last Six Seasons

Lebron James - 19 playoff series wins, 3 wins in 6 Finals appearances, 6 All Star games, 6 All-NBA First Teams
Mike Conley - 4 playoff series wins

Yet somehow someway Conley ($30M) is going to get paid more than Lebron ($27M) next season. Can anyone explain this?

Lebron opted out of his contract with the Cavs. He'll probably end up getting paid more than everybody else by a decent margin when he signs with whoever. NBA contracts are just going to keep going up, especially with the heightened salary cap starting next season. Conley's just the first in a long line of many. EVERY contract signed in FA so far has been crazy.

Want to talk ridiculous? Dwight Howard will be making close to 25 mil a year for the next 3. That's ridiculous.

That's nowhere near as ridiculous as the Lakers (my team) signing Mosgov to 4 years/64 million and Deng 4 years/72 million. I love Deng so that's not so bad, but 4 years is a lot considering we just got our star of the future in Ingram. Mosgov though!? I still don't understand.

I actually haven't looked at how exactly Conley had gotten so much apart from the extended cap, but I'm almost 100% sure all NBA teams (and maybe all star appearances) give you an extra bonus. Maybe that's just in your first 4 years. Yeah so I really do need to look up more information about it but it is pretty crazy. I really like Conley though and at the end of the day he is a max player so I'm not fully blown away by him getting the max, just not the most in league history. Lebron will get more next year if he goes the max I would imagine.

On a side note the free agency period has been awesome! Love what has been happening.

The NBAPA did a ridiculous job of getting these gentlemen these paydays. The negotiated a 50/50 split and now everyone is getting paid. I can't imagine what LeBron is going to get when its all said and done.

Note: LeBron might not take a massive financial gain for himself but rather get his way by bringing hand selected additions to Cleveland and they all make out.

I thought the same thing until I saw that guys like Ryan Anderson is getting paid 20 million a year, Mahimi is making 16 million a year and Al Horford (who isn't even the best big man in Atlanta) is making pretty damn close to 30 million a year.

This whole off season has been absolutely ridiculous given the extra 20 million in salary cap and that monster network deal that just got finalized. Granted I still think Conley is the highest paid guy in the league since he's not even a top 10 point guard, truthfully that might be the worst of them all but considering how much money is getting spent right now across the league it's no big surprise. Besides, since LeBron opted out and Durant is gonna get a monster deal within the next 36 hours I'm guessing Conley being the highest paid player is gonna be very short term.

Salary cap goes up, contracts for mediocre players goes up. Pretty simple logic.

Yeah, but when you got Timofey Mozgov making more money than Steph Curry and James Harden, there's a problem. Of course that's going to change in a couple of years, but it's still ridiculous now. And Conley is going to make more than Lebron or Durant. That's insane.

What the hell do you expect to happen? Do you expect teams to renegotiate contracts every year as to avoid things like this? Players sign these contracts. If they have a problem with it, they can only blame themselves.

James Harden making more money than every West Viriginian coal miner (totally made up but you get the point) is a problem. Him making less than another really f'in rich athlete is due to an anomaly of timing and happenstance. It helps that Memphis probably feels that their window is closing and they don't get quality free agents to come to their small market.

I don't expect a non-Top 25 player, never been to an All-Star Game, Mike Conley to make more than the second greatest player of all time, Lebron James.

Or you can blame the salary cap and stupid GMs.

Probably a good place to start considering the GM makes the deals and the salary cap dictates how much they can spend.

But no, lets redo everyone's contract every year because that's super practical and more fair.

Lebron is better than Mike Conley. He should be paid more. That's my point.

GMs shouldn't be stupid enough to give Conley more than Lebron.

I think most players need to figure out who is Mike Conley's agent. If it's any consolation it's looking like Gasol will be making over 30 million a season, he may not be better than LeBron but he certainly is better than Conley.

Gasol is only making $15M, and I don't think he's better than Conley.

Oh he's better than Conley, even at his old age. And I guess I misread the deal with the Spurs. Anyways it doesn't really matter, at this rate alot of players will be making more than LeBron.
