Mid Card Titles at Wrestlemania

It seems as though WWE may be shining a much needed light on their mid card titles at Wrestlemania. **SPOILER ALERT** It seems that Daniel Bryan may be involved in the Intercontinental Title picture, after events at this week's Smackdown. As we know, John Cena is still chasing Rusev for the US Title.

One year ago, if you told me John Cena and Daniel Bryan would be involved in the chase for mid card titles, I'd been looking for the straightjacket, but it seems as though it's true...damn true.

My question is this - do you think this adds much needed prestige to the IC and US Titles, or is it a way to keep the top faces in titles races now there is only one major belt?

Spoiler alert should have been in the title if the thread.
Anyway, since you didn't give away too much I think it does wonders for the midcard titles.
People only care about titles when they care about champions.
Having super over challengers really help, it helps the champion if the champ wins and it does good for the title if the super over challenger wins.

IF the WWE do put their most over guy in the IC title hunt, I think that in itself would elevate the title through interest in its programme on TV. It would be great also, if the IC storyline was featured more heavily on SmackDown to get eyes on that show whilst allowing RAW to be a bit more spaced out and have less segments.

I said it in another thread:
Bryan vs Ambrose vs Barrett vs Ziggler... add in Sheamus, Truth, etc... but immediately the IC title scene looks a whole lot better, and it would definitely regain prestige, ntm, that would allow a more organic type Main Event scene as guys from the MidCard title scene would make the jump up when needed.

Surely, the Programming quality would improve in a big way.

Of course it can bring back the prestige and some character to the midcard titles and I love seeing Daniel Bryan or John Cena chasing it. But the only concern is the depth of the main roster! Will it be enough to put that match at Wrestlemania? We have the André the giant memorial battle royal as well. If they're ready to strengthen the main roster I'm pretty much excited about it!!

Cheers!!

I think it adds prestige. Unfortunately, the only way the mid card titles are going to get respect is if a more established wrestler holds it. They wouldn't have Cena and Bryan losing every week like Barrett and whoever beats them for the titles, it would benefit them more than being the guy who beats the Kofi's, Miz's, Dolph's for the title.

Does it add much need prestige? Absolutely.

Do you honestly think that it is going to mean much 6 months down the line? Absolutely not.

The problem with WWE and their booking of their mid card championships, is that they are far too short sighted with their champions. Sure they can give the belts to Cena or Daniel Bryan and, for a while, that is going to make it seem like they give a damn about their Championships. But honestly, as soon as they need Daniel and Cena back up the card, they are going to drop those titles like a bad smell and forget the whole thing ever happened.

And then someone has to be the guy who followed John Cena as United States Champion... Honestly, is that an act that you would like to follow? I wouldn't.

If anything, the WWE should be using people like Bryan and Cena to get other people over. Dean Ambrose and Rusev are two guys who potentially could have a massive future in the WWE. So use WrestleMania to get them over and see how far they can run with it. Let the person holding the Championship be the defining feature and elevate the Championship rather than the other way around.

As another poster mentioned, there is only one World title in the WWE at a time where the roster is packed with main event talent. Off the top of my head, I can think of many VIABLE contenders for the WWEWHC; Reigns, Bryan, Cena, Ambrose, Rollins, Wyatt, Orton, Rusev, Sheamus... and a case can be made for others as well. Not everybody can be the #1 contender at the same time... hell, some World title feuds last for months, so what better way to incorporate these other talents than to have them feud for the mid-card titles.

To answer your question, it definitely adds prestige. How can a match between say, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler, or Cena and Rusev not add prestige? The real test, as Dave mentioned, is to keep the momentum going after Wrestlemania. Cena can't win the U.S. title at Mania and than relinquish it the next night to go for the World title... he needs to defend it against people like Rusev, Sheamus, BNB, etc. Same goes for the I.C. title. If Bryan wins it at Mania, he should hold it for at least 6 months defending against the like of Ziggler, Ambrose, Rollins, etc, etc, etc.

These guys can easily make the jump to the main event scene right after losing the IC/US titles and the men who eventually beat them for those titles, will get a nice rub.
