mid-card and main event

Slam Master

Pre-Show Stalwart
I've been wondering this for a while. What makes a mid-carder a mid-carder and not a main eventer? I mean, why can't John Morrison or Shelton Benjamin have a world title shot? Why is Jeff Hardy a main eventer and not Matt? It's been bugging me for a while. It could freshen things up if someone like Matt or Benjamin gets a title shot.

Please.....allow me to answer your question with a question.

If Kofi Kingston was in a match against any one of Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Jericho or even shitty crappy Boretista, would you ever believe that Kofi had a chance of winning?

Thats what separates the men from the boys my friend.

wolud you want to see some one like ricky ortiz, kofi kingston, tbk, or dj gabriel main eventing a ppv?

i didn't think so.

Mate i would love to see TBK main eventing as i enjoy his HBK ripoff gimmick. His singles push on smackdown was great but it ended far to soon. So yeah i could see him Main Eventing a PPV.

Well if you have been watching superstars Kofi was in a competive match with edge this week or last week cant remember lols, yes he lost but he showed he can go with the ME stars.

I would be more than willing to pay double of what a current WWE PPV costs to see The Brian Kendrick or Kofi Kingston main event as long as they were given the right amount of time and a clean ending (Win or Loss/Title No-Title). Add Mr.Kennedy, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, MVP and Rey Mysterio in there and you automatically have a main event scene ten times the quality and caliber of this horrid CENA/ORTON/HHH/BATISTA rehash cycle every 3 months.

Can you imagine the potential these matches would have of being classics?

Edge vs Kofi Kingston
Chris Jericho vs Kofi Kingston
Jeff Hardy vs Kofi Kingston
Rey Mysterio vs Kofi Kingston
Shawn Michaels vs Kofi Kingston
Shawn Michaels vs Charlie Haas
Shawn Michales vs John Morrison
Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin
Randy Orton vs MVP
Triple H vs MVP
Triple H vs Mr.Kennedy
Edge vs Mr.Kennedy
Chris Jericho vs Charlie Haas
Edge vs Charlie Haas
Edge vs The Brian Kendrick
Chris Jericho vs The Brian Kendrick
Jeff Hardy vs The Brian Kendrick
Shawn Michaels vs The Brian Kendrick
Randy Orton vs The Brian Kendrick
Triple H vs The Brian Kendrick
The Undertaker vs The Brian Kendrick
Rey Mysterio vs The Brian Kendrick

NOW, im not taking into account the fact of fan popularity since of course, Charlie Haas's name on a PPV poster wouldnt draw any typical WWE fan. But, im talking about overall match quality here. Those matches could all turn out to be classics if given the opportunity.

yes i do understand that kofi kingston and tbk are great wrestlers im not taking that from them. maybe i worded that wrong at there current state they are not ready to main event yet.

The one time TBK was in a world title match im not sure if it was the main event but it was the smackdown main event nonetheless, I really enjoyed it. His time in the Scramble match was some of the most exciting WWE matches ive seen in awhile. It was refreshing to have new blood in the ME scene and it was even more refreshing to have TBK hold the title i guess u can say the longest during the match. So at least me personally would love to see TBK in the main event more often

As of right now i wouldnt mind seeing some mid carders such as MVP Shelton Benjamin Morrison CM Punk or Mr Kennedy (who would have already been a main eventer by now if he never got suspened or injured so much) to be in the main event. But Kofi Kingston TBK or Hass i dont think so. Hass needs a new gimmick and needs to be put on ECW where maybe just maybe he could win the ECW title one day and hopefully not put on there just to job to Mark Henry or Kozlov. Kofi i would turn him heel and just change his gimmick completly cus i doubt he'll go farther then the US IC or ECW title with the lame ass Jamacian gimmick i think him as a heel and MVP as a face could have a great feud over the US belt and bring back some value to it . And i wouldnt change anything about TBK i LOVE the angle he's in right now and he's the only out of the 3 i could see having a world championship in the future. Not anytime soon though.

Sadly my friend, I do not get WGN America so I have no way to watch Superstars. My point however was not that you won't see them in a main event. The question asked is why don't they get title shots? Well, if it was Kofi vs. Edge for the WHC, you would know, "without a shadow of a doubt", that Edge is going to retain.

But if it was Edge vs. Triple H.......would you KNOW who was going to win??

THAT was my point.

Sadly thats how WWE works, no longer do you have midcard guys go over main eventers once in a blue moon. XPac went over Austin on an occasion and Rock lost a match or two against a midcarder. So my piont is if WWE can do this again mamby then things won't be so dry. Let TBK beat Cenas ass, some midcarder please beat his ass I might actually like Cena then.

There's a few different things a headliner must be...

-He must be good enough to headline a PPV. He must put on consistantly entertaining matches, because the main event is usually the match people expect the most out of.

-We must believe that, if he was against the world champion, he'd have a legit chance of winning. Whether it's with his speed, strength, experience, moveset, smarts, whatever, we have to believe there is a way that this wrestler could beat the champion.

-He must be over. In the end, being talented and putting on great matches doesn't mean shit in the main event if you aren't over. Being over is what matters most in wrestling companies, or at least WWE. Putting on great matches, in ring ability, charisma, mic skills etc. whatever they need to get over to become a main event wrestler.

That's what a wrestler needs for me to take them seriously as a main eventer. And I think midcarders only have 2/3 of those things, sometimes only 1/3 (*cough* Kozlov *cough*). It takes the 3rd one, whichever one they're missing, to make a main eventer.
