Michael Elgin vs.. CM Punk?

Ok, so first off this isn't a rumor or story I've seen posted anywhere else. It's just a thought I had based on a few factors.

1. Obviously CM Punk is now a free agent. Re-signing with WWE doesn't appear likely anytime soon. In fact, an ROH return seems MORE likely IMO. Punk has made it clear he has enough money. But his passion and desire has been stomped out. A brief return tour for a few months in a company he truly loves may be just what he needs.

2. Michael Elgin's open challenge to all former ROH World Champions is really all the set up you need for this match.

3. ROH debuted on Pay-Per-View last month with Best in the World. But its become clear that wasn't a long term plan, but more a date the PPV providers offered ROH that they just couldn't turn down. Their next PPV is Final Battle, and with six months to truly prepare for the PPV, I have no doubt they're going to put together a can't miss show. What would be more can't miss, than CM Punk's return? They'd be tallying PPV buys all night long.


In my head this makes a lot of sense for all sides, and could be an enormous step in bringing more eyes and more attention to Ring of Honor.

So what do you think?

What if CM Punk just........ doesn't want to wrestle right now?

I'm not going to be that guy who says he knows what's going inside of someone else's head: we have enough of that here already. But CM Punk has spent most of the past twenty years either wrestling, or hurt and recovering. What if it's not all about going out, putting on the monkey act for another night, then dodging pushy fans as you try to get to the hotel? What if he wants to, say, start a band? Play softball? Learn to knit?

Professional wrestling is a job to Phil Brooks. That doesn't mean "just a job", but do something for twenty years and try not to get sick of it. It wouldn't surprise me if the best role for Punk in ROH would be in Row C, carrying a ticket.
