Firstly, people seem to be confusing amateur wrestling with "in ring skills."
Let me be the first to point out that these two attributes are completley different. People say the Rock got over because of his mic work not his ring work which was "average or mediocre" this is partly true in the mic aspect. However, just because he didnt have amateur wrestling credentials (something which he would have excelled at. He beat the best guy on the wrestling team with ease with a belly to belly) doesnt mean he doesnt have in ring skills. The reasons he had so many classic matches is because he had exactly that, wrestling skills. Shelton performs just like the other good wrestlers in the WWE, how often does he mat wrestle, how often does Kennedy so leaping spinning back kicks using his martial arts skills. This isn't MMA people. In ring skills are as follows: ability to sell, stamina\fitness, overall strength (ability to successfully slam opponent. You dont have to be a powerhouse just stronger than your average man.) ability to strike, ability to remember spots and execute them properly without being dangerous, ability to get over with the crowd using either taunts or momentum heel\face moves.
These are in ring skills, not necessarily NCAA or former College wrestler, but Pro wrestling skills. You want to see those types of skills, listen to JR talk about Triple H excellent wreslting, he is referring to his skills, which have nothing to do witch amateur wrestling but his knowledge, the same goes for Orton, excellecnt wrester, polished in ring to the bone, works like a vet already, same for taker, michaels, and yes John Cena. This is Pro Wrestling ladies and gentleman NOT MMA.
