Occasional Pre-Show
I was thinking today, that assuming there will be a rematch between Jericho/Punk regardless of who wins at Mania it will likely take place at Extreme Rules.

Now I was thinking, why not have it be a 60 minute Iron man match? They could do it. and we haven't seen one in a long time. This card won't be main event heavy either (w/o Undertaker, HHH, and Rock for sure.) I think it would be entertaining.

Do you guys agree?
Would you like to see it?
Would you add another element to the match? (No holds barred, special guest Ref (if so, who), other)

Obviously I would like to see it but it won't happen. Not only because Extreme Rules is based more on the hardcore aspect but because with this deep of a roster you can't give an hour to anyone on a three hour PPV with two major championships to be decided.

It would be great if it happened though. I don't even think we get to see a rematch.

On paper it sounds great but honestly I doubt it'll happen. Like the above poster mentioned, a 3-hr PPV and one match taking up a third of it and honestly I don't think the current crowd has the attention span for such a match. I can just imagine that during some of the cool wrestling, random fans chanting 'boring' or some stuff. Look back at the Micheals/Hart match and there was an awful lot of mat submission holds. But with that said, I'd love to see it... and make it a chair match to go with the 'extreme rules' theme, haha so it'd be an iron man chair match.

I can really only see one match type if we get a wwe championship rematch with punk and y2j at Extreme rules - Ladder Match.

Both men are masters of the ladder match and it would be incredible to watch. If they decide to do an ironman match in these feud then the only place i can see it being at would be at major ppv - Summerslam.

I say yes, why not? You have three hours and there's always like 15-20 minutes of nothing before 11pm after every PPV ends for some reason and WWE should use that time for ER. Say that there's these matches, so assign the times with them:

Jericho vs Punk - 1 hour

Bryan vs Sheamus( probable rematch) - 20 minutes

US title match - 10 minutes

IC title match - 15 minues

Tag team title match - 10 minutes

Divas title match - 10 minutes

That's 2 hours and 5 minutes with just title matches, leaving 35 - 50 minutes left for ads and maybe even 2 or 3 more matches/promos. So we'd be looking at a 2 hour and 40 minute PPV like we usually get. If Angle and HBK did it on a Raw, let Punk and Y2J do it on a PPV.

I agree and not only did angle and hbk do it on a raw, Lesnar and angle did it on a smackdown. it would be a great wrestling match but as people above have said there needs to be a stipulation because its extreme rules, make it no dq because it also elements the element where someone uses a chair to get dqed to lose a point,

and how much filler do we see on PPVs now with matches being chucked in at the last minute i say there is definately time on the card for a 1 hour iron man match

My answer to if it should happen is a 100% yes.

If it will/could happen throws up a few doubts.

Firstly, can Jericho go for an hour? He's in a good shape but he's over 40, an hour is a long time for one match.

Secondly, how do they incorporate the match being on ER? It's easy to say just make it no DQ but lets be realistic, the more abuse they dish out over the hour using weapons means the more sore both guys will be. They may need to miss Raw the next night in order to recover enough. Plus they'll have to pick their spots with the weapons at the right time. Too much too soon and the match gets boring for the latter portion. If they save the weapons until the last 10-15 mins then there was really no point it being no DQ in the first place.

I would love to see the match but it just doesn't seem right at that PPV and as I said, Jericho's ability to go at a high level for an hour has to be questioned, purely because of his age. I would love for it to be Punk vs. Bryan vs. Jericho in a triple threat Iron Man match. That would allow more use of weapons as each guy takes less punishment, it would allow Jericho to work slightly lighter in the match and it's a unique match to be putting on.

As much as i'd love to see it, i agree that an iron man match is not an "extreme" match, though it would definitely tie in with the "best in the world" argument. But time is definitely an issue. Think about what the rest of the card will likely be...

Sheamus/Bryan - Cage match or No DQ
Orton/Kane -Last man standing
Rhodes/Big show - Cage or falls count anywhere

These matches alone will take up a lot of time, so for me Punk/Jericho will be a ladder match. I hope they continue the fued on to Over the limit, and maybe we'll see an iron man match there but, based on the last 2 years, it'll probably be an I Quit match.

Remember the last time we saw a 60 minute iron man match was back in 2009at Bragging Rights here was the card and the time it took for each match.

The Miz vs John Morrison - 10:54

SmackDown Divas vs defeated Raw Divas -06:54

The Undertaker vs CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio vs Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship - 09:55

Team SmackDown vs Team Raw - 15:34

John Cena vs Randy Orton - 60 minute Anything Goes Iron Man match for the WWE Championship

The World Heavyweight championship and the Team Smackdown/Raw match was cut down by 5-10 minutes each. I don't like the 60 minute match if your going to stack up matches on a pay per view with so much importance with the major storyline being Team Smackdown vs Raw.

If you want a 60 minute iron man match be prepared to accept that matches will be shortned by a few minutes, Vince will not cut down on backstage segments, You will get 6 guys just shoved together to make up a 6 man tag team match, Ill predict the card right here if your going with your iron man match idea.

Punk vs Jericho WWE championship, 60 minute iron man match

Sheamus vs Bryan for the World Heavyweight championship in a Tables match - 12 minutes

John Cena vs The Miz w/Lord Tensai? in a No DQ match - 8 minutes

Cody Rhodes open challenged answered by the Great Khali - 4 minutes

Divas Match - 90 seconds

Kane vs Orton - Stretcher match 11 minutes

Swagger and Ziggler vs Epico and Primo vs Kingston and Truth - Tag Titles - 8 minutes.

Fantastic idea, if there are two wrestlers on the current roster who could go the whole hour, it'd be Y2J and Punk.

To be honest, with the Hell in a Cell match and Rock vs. Cena being the big marquee matches this year, I get the feeling that the WWE championship may feel a bit deflated, a bit rushed due to time constraints. They'll probably only get 15-20 minutes, and while that will be a good quarter of an hour, it's not enough to fully showcase Punk and Jericho's talents.

In a vacuum, Punk vs. Jericho sounds like a damn good PPV main event, regardless of the stipulation. It's just too bad that the WM card is so stacked this year that such a match gets relegated to the 3rd most important.

So yes, dear OP, I would love to see this happen. :)

The only way I can see an Iron Man match working is if they make it an Extreme Rules Ironman match. But I just don't see Jericho working ANY type of match that goes 1 hour. And frankly, I don't think I want to see it. It's not that I don't enjoy the wrestling, of course I do, it's that the suspense goes away once you know this match isn't ending for another 60 minutes. Once it's at the 20 minute mark, you'll realize there is no suspense whatsoever until those final 5 minutes.

Anyway, I think the Extreme Rules card will look like this. Note that neither Rock, Undertaker or Triple H are on the card, because it's not WrestleMania and if they appear on the show and it doesn't get a good buyrate, it will damage their egos. Whatever. Here it is:

1. WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho- TLC match (TLC is no longer its own PPV)
2. John Cena vs. Lord Tensai- Falls Count Anywhere?
3. World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan- Triple Threat match
4. WWE Diva's Championship: Layla vs. Beth Phoenix (c)- Extreme Makeover match (They did it before, even though its a stupid stip)
5. United States Championship: Santino Marella (c) vs. David Otunga- Texas Bullrope match or something weird
6. Intercontinental Championship: The Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes (c)- Steel Cage match (I see Kane attacking Big Show for another random Kane feud)
7. The Miz vs. Christian- Tables match (I see The Miz turning face and feuding with JL)
8. Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger vs. Primo and Epico (c)- Ladder match (I see the Swigglers winning the title on Raw beforehand though)

Zack Ryder will be snubbed from the PPV which to me is a big mistake. He should be feuding with Kane right now at WrestleMania. After losing, he should get his big rematch here and get his revenge on Kane. It's a shame Del Rio will be snubbed again. He's being ridiculously underused.

I think there will definitely be a rematch at Extreme Rules but my guess is that it will be an I quit match where Jericho will bust out a bottle of Jack D to try and make Punk quit.

I am all for this one!! An iron man match between arguably the two best wrestlers in the world today. Hell yah but at extreme rules? ER is just a hardcore PPV but yes i would love an iron man match. The only thing that concerns me is well two things actually.

One being Can Jericho do it? He is over 40 while he is in amazing shape can he do it? An hour is awfully long time to go i think he can do it.

Another thing is the WHC rematch likely being Bryan as the challenger challenging sheamus for the WHC! I dont want that match to be shortened at all or the IC title match that match i dont wanna see shortened. The divas match can be shortened and the tag titles haven't been a main focus in so long you can do without a tag team title match.

Take out the tag team title match and there is your gap to give the proper iron match its due time. I know vinnie mac wont cut down on backstage segments but something has to go and i feel its that!! Have the tag titles defended on the following Monday Night Raw!!

I agree with most, but I think (or hope, I can't really tell the difference) the Punk-Jericho rematch will be a submission match. I've been praying for their WM28 match to be one, but I suppose I'm not that lucky :/ Then I believe (again, maybe its just blind hope) that Cody Rhodes can move on to a legitimate feud. I just don't believe Rhodes v. Show. It may just be me, and I might just be weird that way, but I'm simply not buying it. And finally, I don't see that tag match happening. Vince (and Trips, for that matter) doesn't care about tag teams enough to put 4 possible top talents in, what they would call, a "throw-away, time taker just to get the tag titles on the card." I personally see the tag titles not being defended at Extreme Rules. But, like I said, I like the rest! I don't see McMahon turning Miz face ANYTIME soon, as much as i wish he would, but if he does, I would LOVE a Miz-Christian feud. Good calls :D

An Iron Man match would be great, but it is a bit far fetched for the PPV following 'Mania.

The ER card will be full of fairly important rematches. I don't think there will be room for Punk/Jericho to have a 60 minute match.

Maybe they could do 30? How about a Ladder match? What about a Last Man Standing? Or an all new match idea? Punk and Jericho could surly come up with WWE's next PPV name, I mean next match concept.

No matter what the match will be, Punk vs. Jericho will put on a great rematch at Extreme Rules that may outshine the WrestleMania match they have scheduled.

You guys gotta realize that the WWE isn't afraid to leave people off PPVs. An Iron Man Match is possible, but i doubt it. I would love to see an Ultimate Submission match instead. It's gonna be a ladder match or something though.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho (Submission Match)

Sheamus vs. Bryan (Extreme Rules)

Cena vs. Lord Tensai (Falls Count Anywhere) *going off rumors only.

Beth Phx vs Eve vs Kelly Kelly (LumberJill Match)

Ziggler/ Swagger vs. Epico/Primo (Ladder Match)

Randy Orton vs. Kane (Last Man Standing)

Big Show vs. Rhodes vs. Miz (Triple Threat Hardcore Match) *Miz may interfere in their match for no reason at WM

Santino/R-truth/Kofi vs. Henry/Ortuga/Christian (Elmination Tables Match)
^
To give one of the gm's who lost at WM (doesn't matter who) their job back in some capacity like an assistant.

This thread just goes towards matches, gimmicks and anything extreme about the Extreme Rules PPV.

I think CM Punk vs Chris Jericho in a Steel Cage for the WWE Championship would be a good finishing match on the card.
Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan would be another good match, possibly including Del Rio, in an Extreme Ruls match maybe?

Thoughts?

I'm not too sure about the WWEC being a cage match, due to the rumour of No Way Out returning, which is going to be based on cage matches. (Only a rumour, I don't know anything else otherwise)

I can see a triple threat Extreme Rules match happening, if ADR does worm his way into the picture.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a Chairs or Tables match between Big Show and and opponent for the IC title (Cody Rhodes I assume)

Santino in a ladder match for the US title maybe?

Not forgetting a Cena - Lesnar match, I could see this feud ending with a last man standing match at Over The Limit or the PPV after.

i think the interesting part will be what role john laurinaitis plays. his first night of being gm of both shows, he handicapped both the us title and wwe title bouts. how much is his bias going to come into play when the theme of the night is extreme rules? it wouldn't surprise me to see a submission match between punk and jericho where the anaconda vice is banned, or a fatal 4-way for the us title, where santino finds himself in the ring with three heels.

i'm rather interested to see what matches johnny makes.

I believe that at this PPV Laurinaitis will get MAJORLY involved in the matches.
*USC: Santino v. Ziggler, Swagger, Otunga - gauntlet match with santino barely making it through the first 2 and losing at the 3rd.
*WWEC: I-Quit match, Punk v. Jericho- Punk wins(Henry Interferes if not in the TT match)
*WHC: Triple Threat, Sheamus v. Del Rio v. Bryan- either Bryan or Sheamus wins.
*TT: Texas tornado match, Epico/Primo v. Usos OR Mark Henry/Abraham Washington
i think they are saving brock v. cena for an I-Quit or last man standing match at OTL

I think the Submission match is a good call, especially considering the finish to the match at Mania, and given Johnny's promo on Punk from Raw. I see Jericho going over with the odds stacked against Punk. Given the personal nature of this feud I could also see this being a stretcher match, but I kinda hope not.

I think Del Rio/Sheamus/Bryan will likely be a triple threat Extreme Rules match.

The odds will definitely be stacked against Santino.

CM Punk v Chris Jericho (WWE Championship) - Submission Match
Sheamus v Alberto Del Rio v Daniel Bryan (World Heavyweight Championship)
Kane v Randy Orton - Steel Cage
Beth Pheonix v Kelly Kelly (Divas Championship)
Big Show v Cody Rhodes (Intercontinental Championship) - I Quit Match
Brodus Clay and Santino Marella v Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger

Punk vs Jericho last man standing
Sheamus vs ADR vs Daniel Bryan Extreme Rules
Kane vs Orton Extreme Rules
Santino and Brodus vs primo and epico tag titles
Cody vs big show
Cena vs dolph
Tensai vs yoshi

Cena vs Brock (Rock as special guest referee) Last man standing match
Punk vs Jericho Submission match (WWE championship)
Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio vs Daniel Bryan Steel cage (WHW Championship)
Kane vs Orton infermo match (how cool would that be)
Big Show vs Cody Rhodes Flag on a pole match (Intercontinental Championship)
Santino vs Swagger vs Miz vs Ziggler vs Ryder vs Brodus Clay Six man challenge (US Champhionship)
Epico and Primo vs The Usos Texan Tornado Match (Tag Team championship)

I know some of these seem unrealistic and long, but if played right it can all work out.
