Matchups you'd like to see: All-time

Showtime

It's Showtime!
Much like many sports, comparisons get made between the stars of the past and the present day athletes. Equally intriguing is the idea of how they would've staked up with or against each other in sport. What if the Great One Wayne Gretzky teamed alongside the Rocket Maurice Richard in hockey, or how about baseballs greatest post season closer Mariano Rivera pitching against arguably baseballs most clutch post season hitter Reggie Jackson. So getting back to wrestling, what I'm getting at is what match ups featuring any wrestler from any generation that have never really feuded before would you pay your right nut to see or would just like to see because it would be epically awesome. Well here are a few of my ideas for match ups I would like to see. Be specific on reasons and even on what part of a wrestlers career you would've liked to see them feud against someone I.E. Early HBK or Old Man HBK, lol. Anyway...

CM Punk current vs Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat IC Champion era

The variables of this match intrigue me. Both held World Heavyweight titles, Steamboat the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight title and Punk the WHC title. Steamboat is current IC champion and Punk appears on the verge of maybe winning it. Both are strikers and show similar styles. The matches would be intense.

Vader WCW Champion era vs Yokozuna WWF Champion

I know we kinda got tidbits of this feud in 96, but it was when both men, especially Yokozuna, had health problems and Vaders push wasn't like his one in WCW. In 93, those two were the two biggest baddest super heavyweights around and each were their companies champion. The match would've been a huge draw, and true display of brute power, and would've properly settled the score of who would win between these two very under-appreciated super heavyweights.

Shawn Micheals verse "Macho Man" Randy Savage

I don't really care what era they'd be fighting, whether it be during their heelish IC champion days or doing their world title reigns, I think both and all choices would make for an epic feud. They both play similar flamboyant characters, both had the same manager at certain points, both played great cocky arrogant and over confident heels as well as great face champions, both use the elbow drop and share similar flashy styles. As well, Savage is a consummate perfectionist, would plan the matches out to full detail, and when Shawn Micheals wants, he can deliver epic bouts and would now doubt have an awesome feud with the "Macho Man"

Okay those are some of my ideas, might put up more much later after a few others have a go. Remember to pick anyone from any era and people who have never hugely feuded before. I want to see some good ideas brought up now, so somebody get Will in here. Okay, start replying.

Shawn Michaels versus The Rock - C'mon, who wouldn't want to see that feud?

Chris Jericho versus Owen Hart - Two great guys with similar styles. Aerial moves, submission moves, and a plethora of just the basic "everything else", and both did well with very similar characters.

Bret Hart versus John Morrison - I bet nobody would think of that, but I have a feeling these two would have amazing chemistry together in the ring.

Bruno Sammartino v. Batista

I just want to see what the old school meathead versus the new school meathead would look like...Batista has a good set of power moves, but they're watered down by modern wrestling to look more impressive than they really are...Sammartino had power that could actually hurt...

New Age Outlaws v. The Rockers

Both were teams that every kid loved and wanted to be, but they come from two different eras, and had two different wrestling styles...Michaels wasn't nearly as famous as he became as a singles wrestler, Jannetty was arguably at his best, and the Outlaws were definitely better as a team, than as singles wrestlers...

NWA Ric Flair v. WCW Ric Flair

I know a lot of people view him as over-rated, but you can't really deny his credentials. I would love to see how a young(er) Flair would match up against the "Stylin' and Profilin'" Flair...

Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Brutus Beefacke v. The Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard)

I would love to see the Hulkamaniacs up against the original Four Horsemen. There's a wide array of abilites and styles, and it would be the ultimate faces of one generation, against the ultimate heels of another...

I have no idea who would win any of these, but I'd be excited to find out...

Here it goes.

Ric Flair (NWA) vs. The Rock
I'd bet this would be a pretty good match. Flair could make Rock look like a million bucks (as if he doesn't already). I would prefer to see Flair win but the match would probably be so good, I wouldn't care who won.

Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels
Both tremendously awesome wrestlers, could make each other look great, and out up a 5-star match easily. Two techically sound guys who, in there day, were badass. Too bad it won't ever happen.

Kurt Angle vs. Ric Flair (NWA)
Possible. Very very not probable. Again, two awesomely great wrestlers who never had a big feud. Two great technically great performers that could put up a 5-star match without even trying.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan.

This is probably the biggest dream match I could think of. Both were two incredible drawers during their times, both represented a total of three distinct eras in wrestling, Hogan representing the Golden Years and the NWO Cool Heel years, and Stone Cold representing the Attitude Era. If you look back at time, the two wrestlers that typically come to mind are Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold. Why they choose the Rock to go against Hogan instead of Stone Cold is a strange question.

I would really love to see HBK vs. Sting. I think both are very talented and together they could put on one hell of a match. I would want it to be Sting circa 1996-1997 and the same with HBK. These two were my favorite stars from their respective companies and this would be a match I would pay to see. I think it would assure be match of the.

Also The Hardyz Vs. The Rockers would be a dream match. Both teams are criticized alot by the IWC but both teams always entertained the hell out of me and could put on a exciting fast pace tag match that would keep you on your feet.

Another newer match I would like to see(although it may seem lame)is a 4-way match between Trish Stratus, Lita, Melina, & Michelle McCool(or Maryse their interchangeable)all in their prime. I'm a fan of women's wrestling and actually enjoy the divas and I feel these 4 could put on a great match and something of a divas dream match for myself.

Well that is an old one, so maybe Showtime thought that it was time to open a new one. Also they had slightly different questions. That was a dream match-up, this is an All Star match-up. All Star would be for Main Eventers I would assume, Dream match could be between two great technical wrestlers that may have never made it in the WWE or any promotions.

Attitude Era Mick Foley vs. Bruiser Brody - I couldn't even imagine what kind of havoc these two would have wreaked together in the ring. While most types of dream matches tend to disappoint once they come to fruition, something tells me that a match between these two would have been one of the pinnacles of hardcore/ultraviolent wrestling.

Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle - I think this dream match speaks for itself.

Mistico vs. Takuya Sugi - This is one match that I am not sure about...it may or may not have already taken place. If it has, I would love to see it. And, if it hasn't, I am pretty sure it would be comparable to an orgasm for enthusiasts of high-flying and high-risk wrestling. In my opinion, neither A.J. Styles nor Matt Sydal/Evan Bourne have anything on these two.

These are some of my personal choices:

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton: This has been a dream match for some time for me. Orton has more talent at 22 then some have at 30, and he olny has gotten better. Styles, well he is the face and future of TNA. This in my opinion would be an incredable match, and a must see.

2006 Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk: Former World champs, former money in the bank winners. Both have a leg based style. CM Punk against the right people has been known to put on awesome matchs, and RVD knows how to entertain. This would be a fast paced hard hitting match that I would much enjoy.

wow im kinda shocked there hasnt been more posts in here, but some great ideas already. heres a few of mine.

Kurt Angle Vs Bret Hart
I know its been posted already, but who the hell wouldnt want to see this? The two greatest wrestlers of all time, in my humble, would be a match for the ages. Plus they both look kinda cool when they pull the straps down ;)

Chris Benoit (Angle feud era) Vs Samoa Joe (X division era)
Both like(d) to work stiff, they'd chain wrestle like hell and use increasingly obscure submission holds

CM Punk Vs Eddie
Dunno why, I just think theyd have a great chemistry. Theres something in Punks movement that sometimes reminds me of Eddie a little, I cant place it, but I think we could expect a classically paced match with two charasmatic wrestlers. Think a hell Eddie (WCW maybe) would work best, although i prefer punks style when hes a heel.

and finally:
AJ Styles Vs Mr Perfect
These are two of my favs, and i couldnt think of an obvious choice for an opponent. Styles vs Benjamin or Mysterio would be unbelievable. But these two are/were great at making their opponent look amazing as well as hitting some cool spots of their own..... it#d be beautiful.

Undertaker vs. Sting

Kinda speaks for itself doesn't it? Two of the most mysterious guys in the biz today, and two of the most recognizable wrestler's in history. Epic.

John Cena vs. The Rock

The face of today meets the face of yesterday. Both of these guys are/were awesome on the mic, awesome in the ring, and extremely over. Just having these two stare at eachother would draw big. But who would come out on top? 5 Knuckle Shuffle or The People's Elbow?

Randy Orton vs. Brian Pillman

The psycho's meet. The heartless, wretched, sadistic, father-punting man that Orton is versus the insane, twisted, and completely out of control guy that Pillman is. Two of the most twisted wrestler's in history.

AJ Styles vs Rey Mysterio(before his leg fucked up)

I just love the high flying that these 2 do or in Mysterio's case did. This match would be really really successful & I would pay money just to watch this match.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Randy Orton

Both of these guys just come off as bad asses in my opinion. You have Stone Cold who doesn't give a fuck less about anybody except himself & pretty much does whatever he damn well pleases. Orton is about the same way except he doesn't punt the shit out of his boss but he is either as sadistic or very close to sadistic as Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Hulk Hogan Vs Rikidozan Vs Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata.

A triple threat between these 3 would be awesome. In the same ring at the same time you would have the three men who changed wrestling in the US, Japan and Mexico, not to mention the vastly different styles these three men would bring to the table. You would be sitting on the edge of your seat the entire time the match was going on and no one would leave I can guarantee it. This match would have something for everyone and I personally would mark out the entire time and possibly have a heart attack when the match was over.

*Sigh*If only, if only

Kenta Kobashi Vs. Undertaker This is a weird one for me, I want to see this match because I know it could be a great Match for the sake of being a great Match. I also feel the styles would mesh well together, probably following a Kings High Road style match with multiple false finishes and finishing moves that don't quite finish either off. I know for Undertaker it would be a mix for him being at his peak health wise, and the style he wrestles now. Kobashi probably around the turn of the century would be about right for what I am thinking with the match.

Beth Phoenix vs Awesome Kong

Forget they have vaginas and book it like a regular male hardhitting back and forth encounter. You want to talk about believability and suspending disbelief, these 2 leave no doubt in my mind they could kick some major ass for real if they needed to. Make it no dq but don't use weapons, just leave them carte blanche to wear each other out without having to worry about rope breaks and such.

1-2-3 Kid vs Billy Kidman (WCW)

We did get a very good feud out of these guys during the Invasion angle over the WCW Cruiserweight title and the WWF Lightweight title, but I'd of like to see them in their younger days. X-Pac was a lot more of a flyer back then and both had the same kind of popularity. They pulled off great matches later on in their careers verse each other, so there's no doubt these shouldn't have been as good, except quicker...

and on that note

Rey Mysterio vs Billy Kidman vs Ultimo Dragon

The WWE teased this feud for a while, when Rey and Ultimo began facing/teaming in the ring and Kidman watched from the audience. The feud would've been more than just a match with three great cruiserweights, but also would've been a ultimate match of styles and cultures. USA vs Mexico vs Japan, three of the countries best cruiserweights. Kidman could've played the cocky flashy heel, Mysterio, the high flying underdog, and Ultimo, the skilled veteran technician. If they had built that feud up for 6 months and set up this match at Wrestlemania for the cruiserweight, I think it would've been amazing, better than that cruiserweight open they had instead.

Mike Knox vs Hillbilly Jim

Battle of the beards. Both big power wrestlers...? Really, it's all about the beards for this one.

I agree. I still hold out hope that this match could happen. Sting belongs in the HOF, but what if he agreed to 1 match at Wrestlemainia with HBK? These are the 2 guys that were loyal to their companies during the monday nite wars. The 2 who never jumped shipped. They both were in indys in the beggining, but spent their whole career in one place. Even now, they could still put on a decent match.
Current Randy Orton and Heel Jake Roberts, circa 91-92. The most evil, sinister, heartless sob's of all time? That would make for a hell of a match.
And how about New Age Outlaws vs Miz and Morrison? Promo's. Need I say more?
And nonorable mention:
1. Yeti vs the boogeyman
2. Suicide vs Glacier
3. Mantaur vs the Shark
4. Repo man vs Cryme Tyme
5. Syxx-pac vs Se7en
6. DJ Gabriel and Alex Wright
I'm sure theres others, but thats good for now.

Kurt Angle vs. Randy Savage.

My goodness how amazing would this be? I defy you to find a bad match out of either one of these men. The promos would ahve been off the charts and if given half an hour to forty five minutes, this could have bene the greatest match of all time. Savage from say the late 80s against Kurt in his prime would have me entertainly forever. Both had some power, both could fly, both could wrestle. Seriously, what's missing here?

I agree with Undertaker Vs. Sting. I also agree with Shawn Michaels vs. Sting. Those two matches right there would be enough to put me into an early grave. The EMT's would have a hard time finding out what was flowing from every orifice from my body. It would later be described as Mark Juice.

The one that I want to see the most though. Triple H vs Sting. First off both were heavily influenced by Ric Flair. Which is never a bad thing. Second off I don't know if either I or my TV could handle this epic encounter. Of course Trips would be the heel in this one. But I wouldnt care. Just to see these to go at it in the ring would let me die a happy mark. Too bad any of these matches will never happen, but I can dream.

Can't I??

Ultimo Dragon(pre injury WCW) vs Rey Mysterio Jr(ECW/WCW) vs Dragon Kid vs K-Ness/Darkness Dragon(pre injury)

That would be a cruiserweight/junior/XDivision classic.

Sting vs Triple H: Like Monkey Piper said, both influenced by Flair. I'm not really a fan of Triple H in all honesty. I don't like wrestlers being shoved down my throat no matter who they are. But Triple H vs Sting would be insanely epic.

Sting(Hogan/nWo feud days) vs Bret Hart(pre Screwjob): Come on, besides the obvious(Bret uses Sting's finisher), there matches in WCW were awesome and Bret didn't even get to do much. If they were able to do what they wanted the match would tear down any arena anyday.

Curt Hennig vs Kurt Angle: Both technically perfect wrestlers. I have a feeling they'd have instant chemistry.

Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle: I've been thinking about this one since I was reading Bret's book. He mentioned how he had a dream where he wrestled against Kurt Angle. I began salivating over how great it'd be.

Abyss vs Mick Foley: I'm really hoping this happens soon. God, the gore would be fantastic. Abyss beating Foley could only help TNA.

Hardy Boys(TLC era) vs Edge and Christian(TLC era) vs Harlem Heat(pre split): Come on, two of the WWF's greatest tag teams ever vs WCW's best tag team. I'd love for it to be a TLC match.

Dragon Kid vs Evan Bourne/Matt Sydal: I'm pretty sure this has happened in Dragon Gate or ROH, but they have similar styles and it'd be amazing.

John Morrison vs Shawn Michaels(early to mid 90s): In my honest opinion Morrison is far better in the ring then Michaels ever was or ever will be, but I'd be lying if I said that this would be a bad match.

ok i have a few i would love to see jeff hardy(tlc) vs jimmy snuka(early 80s) both of these men could of put on a fast paced match that would be incrredible and randy orton cody rodhes and ted debise jr vs bob orton ted debbise sr and dusty rodhesi dont say this alot but this would be fucking epic could u just imange it!!!!!!!!

This Can be any type of Feud
Gimmick anything
And it can cross over to TNA vs WWE if you want.

What I've wanted to see all year is an awesome Kane/Jeff Hardy Angle
I believe they could do something really special with this.

I would also like to See Taker/Triple H or Taker/Jericho

and ideas?

R-Truth vs., well, anyone. Please WWE!!! Throw my man a frickin' bone here!!! He's so charismatic and athletic and he only has a few years left until things take a turn for the worse!

In all honesty though, I would love to see R-Truth feud with The Big Show once The Big Show finishes his work in the Guerrero/Edge storyline. If I remember correctly, The Big Show eliminated R-Truth at this year's Royal Rumble in a pretty embarrassing fashion. My man R-Truth thus needs to exact revenge and take back the credibility The Big Show stole from him.

Jeff Hardy vs John Cena

I would love to see Jeff Hardy vs John Cena. It would be interesting to see who they would turn heel. Also it probably be Jeff's biggest individual feud (other than the chase for the title and Matt Hardy feud). If Jeff would do a great job in that feud, there would be no doubt that he would be a Main Event wrestle for years to come.

Goldust vs. Santino Marella

A very odd feud it would be. Very funny too. They tested it a couple of months ago.

Jack Swagger vs. The Undertaker

In this time during the WWE, if you haven't wrestled against The Undertaker once, you aren't going anywhere. If Swagger really is a part of the WWE's future he would have to prove himself against The Undertaker.

Christian vs. Edge

He has comeback and I don't remember seeing Edge talk about it. He should have been on SMACKDOWN, feuding with Edge if they wanted to bring him as a babyface. It could solidify Christian as a Main Event wrestle if it is a great feud.

Let's try this again!

Undertaker vs Sting, two legends, that simple. They have a similiar look about them (wrestling attire, same build) and both are great draws. Other mixes just for a fresh fight, etc.. Bobby Lashley vs Randy Orton, Somoa Joe vs Triple H. I'd like to see AJ Styles vs Jeff Hardy to see a battle of likened styles.

WWE internally, I'm looking Jeff Hardy vs HBK, in which I'd hope Hardy would win. Both are big draws, flashy, and can get people into their matches and fueds.

Just throwing them out there, I'm not sure if these occured a few years ago while I wasn't that into it..

Cena vs Undertaker, Orton vs Edge (Top heels square off), Jeff Hardy vs Edge (just them, as I think they work well with each other)
